Anyone watching this with little to no knowledge of evolution I highly recommend the channel "WhyEvolutionIsTrue" and start from the beginning. There are some very easy to understand videos on that channel that will blow your mind. ID is mentioned sometimes to joke about how some animals have useless, or very odd leftovers from their predecessors still inside them. These aren't incredibly scientific videos, but there are many that deal with ID including the court case.
@Reip187 My personal favorite videos on that channel are "Inside Nature's Giants" which you can find elsewhere as well. These videos are about animal autopsies on the world's largest animals including blue whales, great white sharks, giraffes, and giant squid. No they didn't kill animals for the show. This show is based not on behavior like most animal shows, but anatomy with an evolutionary twist. The African Elephant episode even talks of evolution observed in our generation: their tusks.

While I'd agree with your general opinion, I'd like to stress that college professors are people as well and no less likely to limit some genius in advancing his career for personal or other reasons than eg. a corporate manager. I happen to have several friends in academe and according to what they tell me politics is just as much a part of academe as it is of commercial businesses. In fact, the line keeps blurring. So really, some people don't get published even though their work is great.

The LORD God's creation of the heavenS (plural) in Genesis 2 happened possibly billions of 'years' before God's lesser creation of heaven (singular) in Genesis 1.

Alright good video 2 things, 1 and you only brought it up briefly so this I won't go on too long. I didn't see Expelled as an advocate for ID, just more of a petition to not immediately dismiss it or any idea that sounds odd without first giving it proper consideration or hearing it out. 2 I've come under quite a bit of crit for this but I think if the ID people would be willing to have their "theory" presented with its flaws then we should let it be presented in the classroom. this is that since religion (which is what ID is as you noted) can't stand on pure empirical and scientific knowledge alone without any faith based reasoning which is not scientific at all, kinda got distracted for a sec but my point is that because of this I see accepting ID as a theory to look into as sciences chance to disprove religion. I don't think anything should be taught in the science classroom if it has failed to survive the rigors of scientific analysis. ID is a failure on that account and, therefore, has no place in the science classroom, IMHO.
And if the movement hadn't gained so much support specifically because it in their eyes hasn't been given enough of a chance (which is the "good" argument/excuse some use) I would agree with you completely. But the reality is that this "conspiracy" stuff they've been spouting has been getting the idea to much support.
The reason the ID movement has gained so much of a following because of this "conspiracy" bs. The way it's been portrayed is that the scientific community isn't giving ID a chance. I say you make sure the theory has to be shown in a purely scientific manor in the classroom, it will die quickly because it's destined to kill itself because it can't be expressed without faith based logic. I did my High School Graduation Project on ID. I went through a whole spiel on how ID could not hold up to scientific theory, It's not a viable substitute or evolution, blah blah. My big challenge was that I'm in the Bible-thumpin' south. Luckily 2 of the 3 responded well (one was one of my teachers) and I passed. I like your videos by the way. Easy to kill that one, all life on earth has these "letters" rearranged in different orders and such, so the "you can rearrange letters and get something new" argument is pretty stupid considering that's exactly what life on earth is, and it's no mere rearranging of letters that goes on, this isn't scrabble.

complex, The cecal valves in the stomach of the Italian wall lizard. If it didn't have the cecal valves it has, between the small and large intestines, it would not be able to digest plant matter, it would eat it, and gain nothing from it at all,in fact, it might just be harmful eating something it can't digest. On an island with not many insects to eat, and lush but hard to eat vegetation ,it would surely die.
Thing is, this BRAND NEW ORGAN (new information? ^_^) evolved in the last 30 or so years, was NOT there before,they were transplanted from one island to another, only 10 or them, the population is now 5000, they have a more powerful bite, less agressive, more social less territorial,developed new muscle structure and cecal valves to digest plant matter and extract nutrients from it...that's quite a bit of "Micro" evolution isn't it?..irreducibly complex too, without all that,they'd starve!

There aren't that many insects on this new island, so they eat both plants and insects, something their ancestors, and cousins couldn't possibly do right now. They have a stronger more powerful bite, and better mouth structure for eating trashy hard to eat plants that,again, their cousins can't do. The lower the population the easier natural selection can work.

I think willful ignorance plays a large part in opposition to evolution. An theist opposed to evolution recently messaged me spouting the old falsehood about there being no transitional fossils. I pointed him to the Ken Miller video, which talks at some length about this. 5 or 6 talking-points-filled messages later, it became clear that this person hadn't watched the video. So I asked, "You're not really interested in finding out about transition fossils, are you?" He responded, "No."
What do people not get? If it can't withstand the rigors of the scientific method and get even one publication, it has no right to be taught in a SCIENCE class. What they SHOULD be doing is petitioning to get religion classes taught in school, but they know that won't fly :P

In a nutshell, yes, BentBlueMetal, though I would hasten to add that if it were scientific, they'd be doing scientific work to prove their claims rather than going around science to government in search of an intellectual handout by which government would mandate the teaching of intelligent design without its advocates having to demonstrate the model's scientific merits.
I find it a bit sad that opponents of ID are now taking the position that our brains are actually "a poor design" in effort to combat the conclusions ID asserts. Afterall, didn't this man come to that conclusion with his own poorly designed brain? Something to ponder.

Did you listen to the interview with Dr. Marcus, TheEdge? It seems not. His goal is not "to combat" ID, but to explicate some facts about the human brain. As it happens, those facts are not accounted for by ID, but only by evolution.

Apropos the space program, Ken Miller talks about how the Russians' success with Sputnik was one of the salient factors in getting Americans to recognize that they needed to put aside the nonsensical fight against teaching evolution and get science education on track in this country.

If so, the difference here is that it is private faith-schools pushing the idea. And I fear that they have a somewhat looser rein. If our government meddles too much with their curriculum I can see them demanding more funding, and that won't be popular with voters. It's messy.

Nice video, Prof. It's amazing that Intelligent Design (and Young Earth Creationism) has as many followers as it does. Everybody knows that my theory of Young Earth Atheism is the only real, valid explanation of the earth and all its complexity.
That was a pretty good summary of some of the Evolution vs. Creationism battles that have taken place thus far. Have you heard or read about the law passed in Louisiana saying that teachers (in science class) can introduce any "alternative theories" they want? Gov. Jindal signed the bill into law last week... He also has performed some exorcisms in his day.
Anyone watching this with little to no knowledge of evolution I highly recommend the channel "WhyEvolutionIsTrue" and start from the beginning. There are some very easy to understand videos on that channel that will blow your mind. ID is mentioned sometimes to joke about how some animals have useless, or very odd leftovers from their predecessors still inside them. These aren't incredibly scientific videos, but there are many that deal with ID including the court case.

These videos are about animal autopsies on the world's largest animals including blue whales, great white sharks, giraffes, and giant squid. No they didn't kill animals for the show. This show is based not on behavior like most animal shows, but anatomy with an evolutionary twist. The African Elephant episode even talks of evolution observed in our generation: their tusks.

While I'd agree with your general opinion, I'd like to stress that college professors are people as well and no less likely to limit some genius in advancing his career for personal or other reasons than eg. a corporate manager. I happen to have several friends in academe and according to what they tell me politics is just as much a part of academe as it is of commercial businesses. In fact, the line keeps blurring. So really, some people don't get published even though their work is great.

Alright good video 2 things, 1 and you only brought it up briefly so this I won't go on too long. I didn't see Expelled as an advocate for ID, just more of a petition to not immediately dismiss it or any idea that sounds odd without first giving it proper consideration or hearing it out. 2 I've come under quite a bit of crit for this but I think if the ID people would be willing to have their "theory" presented with its flaws then we should let it be presented in the classroom. this is that since religion (which is what ID is as you noted) can't stand on pure empirical and scientific knowledge alone without any faith based reasoning which is not scientific at all, kinda got distracted for a sec but my point is that because of this I see accepting ID as a theory to look into as sciences chance to disprove religion. I don't think anything should be taught in the science classroom if it has failed to survive the rigors of scientific analysis. ID is a failure on that account and, therefore, has no place in the science classroom, IMHO.

The reason the ID movement has gained so much of a following because of this "conspiracy" bs. The way it's been portrayed is that the scientific community isn't giving ID a chance. I say you make sure the theory has to be shown in a purely scientific manor in the classroom, it will die quickly because it's destined to kill itself because it can't be expressed without faith based logic. So if we put it in the classroom like the ID supporters want ID will die and the debate would end IMHO

yes, but then the argument of you can't be satisfied will be applicable. The ID supporters who want their "theory" put into the class rooms act so humble and say "all we want is an alternative to evolution taught" if their theory kills itself because of it's faith based logic and they demand it still be taught for a new reason then it will be evident that nothing will please them so they can't be taken seriously.

oh if you want proof of evolution in modern man just bring up height change over time. I mean it's evident for the general population just since the 17 to 1800's. There are more people over the 5 foot, 6 inch mark today then there ever had been in history. George Washington was 6ft and he was more or less a freak. You don't need a big tell tale, remember it's very slow gradual change we can believe in.

Scientists are to be distinguished from wannabees by how they react to rejection of their work.
the scientist puts more effort in his work. The wannabe starts blaming someone else.

I did my High School Graduation Project on ID. I went through a whole spiel on how ID could not hold up to scientific theory, It's not a viable substitute or evolution, blah blah. My big challenge was that I'm in the Bible-thumpin' south. Luckily 2 of the 3 responded well (one was one of my teachers) and I passed. I like your videos by the way. Intelligent Design is religion and therefore faith-based. You believe it because you choose to believe it not because of scientific validity.
Selling religion as science is fundamentally dishonest for many reasons but especially because of the hidden agenda. The real pupose (agenda) of the Intelligent Design is religious conversion.
The logic goes like this: If Evolution is false, then Intelligent Design is true. All we have to do is discredit Evolution to save your soul, so trash science.

You have also to take into account the political (for lack of better words) aspect of it. Both works can be equally good and well-presented but "big-name" guy's will find its way into a journal easier or faster than the other guy.

Publishing doors may open more easily for people with established names/reputations. However, that doesn't make it impossible for people doing good work to get published.

Absolutely. We agree. I was just interested in hearing your opinion about what I called the "political" aspect of it, and apparently you agree that maybe on occasion, maybe ever so slightly it is a part of the equation.
I ultimately believe that good work will always find recognition, no matter who authored it.

1) No one has shown "new organs" form, no "new information" is added.
2)That's Micro-Evolution, superficial changes, show me new organs.
3) That's irreducibly complex, it had to have been designed, the animal would die without it!!
4) If you rearrange the letters, you only get so many words. (very funny)

All three at once now. here is an example of something that is seemingly irreducibly
complex, The cecal valves in the stomach of the Italian wall lizard. If it didn't have the cecal valves it has, between the small and large intestines, it would not be able to digest plant matter, it would eat it, and gain nothing from it at all,in fact, it might just be harmful eating something it can't digest. On an island with not many insects to eat, and lush but hard to eat vegetation ,it would surely die.

Thing is, this BRAND NEW ORGAN (new information? ^_^) evolved in the last 30 or so years, was NOT there before,they were transplanted from one island to another, only 10 or them, the population is now 5000, they have a more powerful bite, less agressive, more social less territorial,developed new muscle structure and cecal valves to digest plant matter and extract nutrients from it...that's quite a bit of "Micro" evolution isn't it?..irreducibly complex too, without all that,they'd starve!

There aren't that many insects on this new island, so they eat both plants and insects, something their ancestors, and cousins couldn't possibly do right now. They have a stronger more powerful bite, and better mouth structure for eating trashy hard to eat plants that,again, their cousins can't do. The lower the population the easier natural selection can work.

I think willful ignorance plays a large part in opposition to evolution. An theist opposed to evolution recently messaged me spouting the old falsehood about there being no transitional fossils. I pointed him to the Ken Miller video, which talks at some length about this. 5 or 6 talking-points-filled messages later, it became clear that this person hadn't watched the video. So I asked, "You're not really interested in finding out about transition fossils, are you?" He responded, "No."

I find it a bit sad that opponents of ID are now taking the position that our brains are actually "a poor design" in effort to combat the conclusions ID asserts. Afterall, didn't this man come to that conclusion with his own poorly designed brain? Something to ponder.

Did you listen to the interview with Dr. Marcus, TheEdge? It seems not. His goal is not "to combat" ID, but to explicate some facts about the human brain. As it happens, those facts are not accounted for by ID, but only by evolution.

I'm happy to say my own state of Florida recently fought off an "evolution academic freedom" bill that was proposed about the time Expelled came out - *and*, our state educational standards for the first time include the theory of evolution.
Of course, in my hometown of Cape Canaveral, we've been doing that for years. Something about science being important to our area's population... :)

Quite right. One is tempted to say "follow the money." Apropos the space program, Ken Miller talks about how the Russians' success with Sputnik was one of the salient factors in getting Americans to recognize that they needed to put aside the nonsensical fight against teaching evolution and get science education on track in this country.

Quite true, quite true. I only hope that a similar situation occurs in Australia. The Dover trial concerned the public school curriculum, is that correct? If so, the difference here is that it is private faith-schools pushing the idea. And I fear that they have a somewhat looser rein. If our government meddles too much with their curriculum I can see them demanding more funding, and that won't be popular with voters. It's messy.

Yes, that's correct. Private schools are another matter, as it appears they are there in Australia -- although basic educational standards must be adhered to.

That was a pretty good summary of some of the Evolution vs. Creationism battles that have taken place thus far. Have you heard or read about the law passed in Louisiana saying that teachers (in science class) can introduce any "alternative theories" they want? Gov. Jindal signed the bill into law last week... He also has performed some exorcisms in his day.
