I had a Hunter Green '58 Edsel Ranger with a 475 CID V-8 that would fly down the highway. The only problems I had were with the electric shift. It shifted from Drive to Park on the Maine Pike at 70 MPH, and damaged the rear end. I was going to work for the week in Massachusetts and made it to Needham and got the rear end replaced. Gas mileage was very good too. It got an average of 20 MPG.
I wish I still had that car today. Nothing rides like that old Edsel did.
@VikinginMaine It's actually not 475cid the E 475 was named for it's torque output as was the E-400 which was a 361cid and the E-475 was a 410cid engine. The Econo Six i believe it was called that I have in my '59 ranger is just a regular Ford 223cid engine.
Hey I found an 58 Edsel 4-door. I'm not sure the model but it's got a full interior, full powertrain, and smashd black window. The interior is just rough from the smashed back glass. The guy who owns it wants $500.
The Edsel Citation? Convertable, too? You should get working! Those can be worth a lot of money if properly restored. Even if you don't want to sell it, it could still be something to brag about, and could be your pride-and-joy. You can also go for a drive in it, and drive in style.
yeah convertible citation teli touch steering wheel. it was the car that was on the rotunda at fords. my grandfather got it because he was head of light truck development. yeah my dad and i plan to start working on it soon. we need someone who specializes in upholstery so we can get the top fixed.
I'm more of a fan of the mid '60s - mid '70s era full size fords, such as the Galaxie 500, Thunderbird, but especially the LTD.
I drive a 1974 LTD, and i just fucking love my car.
the Edsel is awesome though. I know it was too bizarre for people at that time, but hey, i would have bought one if I was around back then; it's a style all of it's own, it doesn't cling to what society says is right.
It wasn't just the unique styling that drove people away. The country had a reccession in 1958 and it was the lowest selling year for automobile manufactures in the 1950's. Also, many buyers didn't know if they were buying a Mercury or a Lincoln.
can anyone tell me what the part that holds the tire case at 2:20 is called. Becouse ive been looking for one for my edsel but im having NO luck.

A Edsel is a rare car so they should stay like they where back then.

I just started to think... Whould a Edsel be a good Christine? (Plymouth Fury)
Sjurmen 2 years ago
@Sjurmen I think that the forward design of the Mopar suits better for the role of Christine, but this car is amazing too
