Rats are very affectionate but they're also very vulnerable. Lots of things like to kill and eat them. No doubt genuine love draws the rat to you but probably also a bit of protection and security from being out in the open is also a part of it.

@neo10147 Pet shops are bad to get rats from. As most of them develop something wrong. I got mine from a friend's mother who has loads of them and accidentally had a litter of babies. She bought a few from the pet shop and they all had something wrong and died prematurely. The conditions they keep them in at the pet shops are bad. Mine are absolutely fine as technically I did get them from a breeder, nothing has been wrong and they're 2 years old very soon. I love 'em!
My rat Scabbers does this too. When I am playing with him on the couch and I get up, he follows me and looks at me like he's saying "mama! mama! Take me with you!"
I like to take him with me in the bathroom when I am getting ready for the day. It's a nice, ratproof room for him to play in. When he doesn't want to run around any more he will climb up my pants and sit himself on my shoulder. He also tries to do this when I am not wearing any pants! Ouch.
@neo10147 give them fruit and veg and a little sweet things like a bit of cake ;) maybe a brush, hugs and kisses and just love him/her with all your heart and they'll love you back 10x :)

When my mom was going to get me my first pet she suggested a rodent. So I picked a gerbil. But my mom's friend had two rats that needed a good home and they were free so we got rats instead of gerbils and I'm glad. Ever since the day I saw those two rats I wanted them, and now rats are by far my favorite house pet.

I love when i come home and they are just hanging on the bars of the cage waiting to come out and play, they show more affection than most dogs or cats and will be your best friend for life. I feel when i adopt a rat I am saving them from death by the mouth of a snake or a life of digging thru trash dodging decon. The love i have for rats is absolutely unconditional and I will be a rat owner until the day I die.
i used to keep my rat in its cage in the master bathroom because the room was sealed tight enough i could leave him with the cage door open and he had free run of the bathroom... when i went in the bathroom to get ready, he would hug my ankles, or climb my jeans, what ever he could do to get close to me. way more affectionate than any dog i have ever had (but then again all of my dogs have been outside dogs.
@databanks I've read a few articles about this! They help their rat friends who are trapped in a little tube that can only be opened from the outside. In some tests, they put rats in a cage with a trapped rat in a tube, and a tube of chocolate chips. The free rats will rescue the trapped rat FIRST, then open the tube with the chocolate and let the rat that was trapped have first dibs! It's so cute and really touching. *sniffle sniffle*

one night, at 12am, i woke up to licking on my face. At first I freaked out but then I realized it was just one of my rats, Sparky. So, I was about to fall back asleep but then I was like "SPARKY?! Y R U OUT THE CAGE?!", turned on the lights. My rats chewed a HUGE hole in the plastic base of their cage. The thing that shocked me, Sparky jumped from the dresser to my bed (a foot away) instead of on the desk which was an inch away. This proves that rats get really close bonds to u. Best pets ever!
My ratty named Luna does this :) she looks the same too, except the black stripe on her back is thinner and doesn't connect to the black on her head. I love her so much. :D

putting it on a scary surface it doesn't recognize doesn't mean it wants to cuddle with you, it means your scaring the shit out of your rat. think more about their perception and less about yours when you say your rat "loves you" because it wants to get off the plastic-covered table :-\

I really miss my boys. I had to give them away because our roommate we moved in with was scared of them and if they went to my mom's/grandma, she'd end up killing them.
I think he/she just wanted to get off the table. Whenever I give my rats a bath they try and do the same thing; follow me around and trying to get close enough to climb me, because then we usually take them somewhere else.
@Anaidpala I don't think so, since my friend had me take in her female adult rat Ruby, and Ruby grew attached to me within a month or so after taking care of her. So I don't think it matters if they are babies or already adults, but I think it helps if they are babies when you get them

You need more then one rat. They need a buddy. No matter how much you love her. She needs it, for more love, cleaning, cuddling and all other stuff. I have 5 rats now. 2 youger ones, and 3 addults.

omg how cute! i have a female rat who looks almost identical called onyx. if someone else has her, for example on the other sofa to me, she leaps off the arm to get to me, so cute. she absolutely loves attention. unfortunately her sister ruby prefers to hide whenever i want her to come out cause shes shy :( everyone loves my ratties :)
to be honest i think that it just didnt like the table, my rats were same with white objects, but despite this there still very affectionate cos theyd come and see me after 5 mins of running around
Ok, now I have to get another rat. It's been about 4 years. They're awesome pets but their lifespan is short. Always breaks my heart when they die ( I did have one that was over 4 years old once... No lie)
I really think it's only certain rats with certain personalities who do this. I've had 8 in total, but only one of them would ever get so attached to me likes yours in your video.
Aww, what a sweetie. I have three, and all of them do this. They're all snuggled up with me at the moment, except for Rose, who keeps on waking the boys up. (she's spayed, no worries) @strongyang, they are very much cleaner than any other animals we keep as pets. I share food with mine and have never been ill from it.

Rats are absolutely adorable! They just want to give love and are crazy to be loved! Most amazing animals ever - they are like a drug; once you have them, you simply cannot live without them! RATS ROCK !!!!

I have 4 rats at the time, all boys :) I love rats! I have had five at one time, but one died. :( R.I.P. Pip. I have had 11 rats in my whole life, and I am 11 years old.

omg how cute! i have a female rat who looks almost identical called onyx. if someone else has her, for example on the other sofa to me, she leaps off the arm to get to me, so cute. she absolutely loves attention. unfortunately her sister ruby prefers to hide whenever i want her to come out cause shes shy :( everyone loves my ratties :)

to be honest i think that it just didnt like the table, my rats were same with white objects, but despite this there still very affectionate cos theyd come and see me after 5 mins of running around

Ok, now I have to get another rat. It's been about 4 years. They're awesome pets but their lifespan is short. Always breaks my heart when they die ( I did have one that was over 4 years old once... No lie)

I really think it's only certain rats with certain personalities who do this. I've had 8 in total, but only one of them would ever get so attached to me likes yours in your video.

Aww, what a sweetie. I have three, and all of them do this. They're all snuggled up with me at the moment, except for Rose, who keeps on waking the boys up. (she's spayed, no worries) @strongyang, they are very much cleaner than any other animals we keep as pets. I share food with mine and have never been ill from it.
