Lovely song! Sadly the truth is that global warming has melted nearly all of Kili's snow. Take a look at my fly-over video on this site, filmed by me last month. Will we still have a moutain to sing about...?
OMG... i was on the summit in pitch black... Spent only 15 min there before going back down, wind blowing 6 bft, and -22 celcius. YUK! Wish i saw the top in the nice sunshine like u did... well, have to do it again then...:-)) nice vid!
This video is great!! Im climbing Kilimanjaro along this route in June to celebrate my 21st birthday for Mind- The Mental Health Charity! I cant wait now!!
1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem at some point in their life!.. if you would like to know more or maybe you have a spare £1 to sponsor me and make a difference google me .. kili4mind or kilichris21
Kilimajaro is ok for beginners as long as you are not suffering from AMS... I went in 2004 and dying to go back since... lovely experience.... Outta the world....
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I plan to summit some day, perhaps next year. Maybe I'll go with IMG, however descending to Mweka Campu @11,000 ft is extremely arduous. Other expeditions like Alaska stop at 12,000 ft to give you some time to recover.
From my research (and this video) there's a little bit of rock climbing involved, but you don't have to be an expert. It's mostly strenuous hiking. There's lots of people to help you out, like the expedition guide and the porters too. And other travelers in the party might be able to help out as well. I think the most important thing is to be in good physical shape.
Wow... thanks for posting that. I plan to do the same trek for the ndcs - national deaf children - in august 09. Can you give me any advice as training goes? Pretty fit and able to walk lots already!determined and a plodder. Questions: what's the weather like?where do you go to the loo?(seriously!); how about sleeping?how do you get down again?did you enjoy it? would you do it again? Any advice on feet/boots? PlEASE reply!! thanks, Boo x
I summited Aug. 15 via Machame route. Slept in tents provided by trekking company. Brought our own sleeping bags and pads. The company we went with provided portapotties but if not there are outhouses at each camp site (learn to mouth breath! and bring your own toilet paper!) It was cold at night (around 2-5C), daytime ranged from cool to warm depending on altitude and sun. Wore my fleece jacket every day at one point. We all wore hiking boots and gaiters the whole trip.
nice clips..... it gave me a great overview.

That American at the end who orders him to "TRANSLATE!" would have bugged me. Glad I wasn't there.

Not much rock climbing, kilimanjaro is pretty much the worlds highest walkable mountain.

That's cool in a way too. It almost seemed "too easy" for us! :) Would have been cooler to tell everyone back home how we survived the elements!
