Over speeding forces pilot to hit the plane on the ground. Again several same movements with this aircraft & it will break into several pieces later on !
This is one of the dangerous things that can happen when they hire people based on their public relations and not on their skills...terrible but true..
@neveneffect1 i agree, in the last year, i make a flight Cancun - Madrid, on a 747-400, and guess what was at the front seat....5 children in 4 seats, they hit my face with the their seat.........i am 13 year old, but i don't do those stupid thigs in the airplane.....WTF is this..a 11 hours flight with that noise....They don't stop those stupid things.....because their parent thing the other passengers dont care about that.....F****** Bastars
@TheAirflyer I'm 15 years old, and when I came back from Kenya, in the two seats behind me where 2 children pulling at my chair than pushing it I tried to sleep but I couldn't because the mother of the children wanted to see outside and for some reason she wanted to look outside through my window, so there I sat for 7 hours in the sun, with noisy shit-heads breaking down my chair.
@TheAirflyer haha! than all of a sudden it's quiet and than they sit there watching you, having no clue at all why you did that! And the rest of your flight will be nice and quiet:)
If you were sat on the port side of the aircraft on that flight i would have seen the house i used to live in when i was a kid which is very near to the end of the runway, just off centre...living so near to the airport is what got my interest in aviation. That was wayyyyyy back in 1970...and still continues to this day. Thanks for posting. Its good to see vids on here, and even better when they are 'local'.
@charltonsREDARMY I can't see an airspeed indicator superimposed anywhere in this video. Where do you get the idea he is too fast? He didn't baloon in the flare with excess speed, it dropped in. If the runway is 1700 meters thats about 5000 feet of usable pavement, about the same as Chicago Midway. There have been harder landings in that airport. It landed the way he intended. BTW, it was a long way from a "hard landing" anyway.
yh i agree with ben123, the reason it was hard is due to the fact that the runway isnt very long. As far as i know living just at the end 20, the biggest plane that SOU can handle is the 757 which is a rare visitor and can only visit at <1/2 a fuel tank, so any 757 flights that they have done have usually had to refule elsewhere before continuing. Southampton's website has there own planned expansion on it in pdf format for those curious about the airport expansion ;) nice vid tho :)
A good film of the wings. It seemed a perfectly normal landing to me, all flaps being extended correctly at the correct moment. All planes that use Southampton are short take-off/landing aircraft approved. I fly frequently from there and its a lovely experience unlike most big airports.
My local aiport is southampton and I know why it was so hard. It was because the runway isn't very big, so the pilot wanted to put the plane down so he could have enough room to brake, Southampton airport only see's the 737 when Thomson are doing their seasonal service to and from Palma, but there are plans for a second terminal and a second runway big enough to handle fully loaded and fueled 777's
I think They're going to buy the field next door to it, knock down the short stay car park and build it diagonally across 02/20 and for the secong runway they're gonna biult it along side the second runway.
I really doubt that those "Plans" will ever become reality. The London Airports i.e Gatwick,Heathrow,Luton,Stansted etc take all of the heavy aviation traffic. i.e 767's and 747's etc. There isn't the need for a second terminal or runway at Southampton. It's got way more capacity. But if Thomson decided to increse their flights to a 757 that would be good. They did it a few years ago. But as I said southampton cannot expand due to the motorway and the railway depot.
well a lot of sources eg; BAA, wikipedia google earth say that the second terminal is going ahead in a couple of years time because they want more stands and a few othe soures saidthat the second runway may come into it but they're still deciding whether or not it will.
See here is the thing that I get really angry about the airlines name Thomson NOT Thompson ^^

@dntist Bullshit, this was perfectly normal landing. Your pathetic countrys economical situation is good example about that, not this landing.

It doesn't sound like the reverse thrusters came on at all. Usually just after landing you can hear the reverse thrusters.

Only 1700m of runway. No room to try for a greaser.

It's probably a Thomson 737 inbound from Palma, it's the only 737 Southampton sees now.

Barely room for a second runway without moving either the motorway or the Railway line. How do they propose to squeeze that in?
