  • Joe strummer wanna be much, Trys to strum the guitar the same way, Has a telecaster like him, Plays same song as him, Same hair style, And trys to pull off the same way of singing, Joe will allways be the original legend

  • I'm all for letting Stevie sing, and he's a badass guitar player but uh... I wish Bruce had sang that verse...

  • RIP Joe and Big man!

  • Strummer would like it!

    RIP Clarence--Big Man!

  • shit I didn"t that the Boss does this one as well !

  • Can anyone see where that capo is placed? (I'm a guitar player by the way)

  • @theplourde Capo on 3rd - looks like Gm, D#, some variant of D for the verse. I'd work it out a bit better, but beer is clouding my judgement :p

  • I'd say there was more people here than in all of Belmar.

  • @bosseforever is That a joke!?

  • fucking hell the crowd @1.20

  • Bruce is/was a clash fan, check out the rock and roll hall of fame show right after Joe died. Bruce is paying his respects to the real deal. Take away Born in the USA and you'll find the real Springsteen. But I'm glad he had a big hit, he's worked hard enough.

  • I WAS THERE - ONE OF THE BEST CONCERTS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN LIFE. R.I.P CLARENCE. AWSOMENESS ON A EPIC SCALE - THE SWEAT WAS LITRELLY STEAMING OFF BRUCE'S SHIRT, THANKS FOR THE POST.

  • One Love to Joe and also to Clarence. R.I.P.

  • miss joe strummer r.i.p

  • hes gone to fast!!! :(

  • Clarence Clemons WE NEED YOU!!

  • sorry... L A M E. does anyone remember when bruce springsteen said that his upcoming double album would wipe out ANY IMPACT of the Clash's double L.P. "London Calling" back in 1980 ? W.T.F. is all this??? L A M E ...

  • sorry... L A M E. does anyone remember when bruce springsteen said that his upcoming double album would wipe out ANY IMPACT of the Clash's double L.P. "Londoncalling" back in 1980 ? W.T.F. is all this??? L A M E ...

  • Bruce Springsteen THE BEST!!!! this man is AWENSOME!!!

  • They both use sun burst teles (Joe WAS sunburst), both could only lay all 6 strings or none at all, very similar.

  • Sometimes one forgets that the boss can fucking shred.

  • Sad that Joe wasn't on that stage that day. RIP Joe Strummer!

  • strummer + springsteen = super special

  • SILVIO DANTE IS A FUCKIN' LIVING LEGEND!!!!!!!!!

  • @aviadmei His real name is Little Stevie Van Zandt :) But you're right, he's a legend

  • @JusRam1 MANY THANKS FOR THIS INFORMATION, ALTHOUGH I'VE ALREADY KNOWN HIS REAL NAME! ANYWAY, STEVEN OR SILVIO - HE IS A LEGEND, INDEED!!!! :-)))

  • Energy and passion just as Joe used to do it.

  • It would have been awesome if he got brian fallon from the gaslight anthem to join in with this. Both are fans of eachother, they had performed together already during that festival and both are fans of the clash.

  • bn

  • The Boss!

  • joe strummer could be proud :) rip joe

  • Joe's is the best version of course but I love this version.I dig the raw emotion Bruce puts into this song and how raw his voice is on it and how his emotion seeps through.Steve does a great job to.Wish Joe was here to do a duet.RIP Joe.

  • I Love this song

  • Kinda predictable song to kick off with but who the fuck cares, it's awesome.

  • The thing that is cool about this is that Joe Strummer's favourite guitar was a telecaster

  • Every song this man sings is better than the last ... He's a Legend .

  • Absolutley. His version of this song is amazing.

  • Bruce and the E-Street Band are the best in the world, he just rock, nobody can beat him!!!!

thump up if you have the same oppinion !!

  • Ohhhh, they aren't booing, they're shouting "Bruce", now i get it.

  • Bruce and The Clash .... prodigieux ... Top of the top

  • joe ne sarebbe orgoglioso.

  • He truly is The Boss, may he and his E Street Band live forever!

  • tears in my eyes.i see this, thinking about joe strummer.

  • The best...

  • Thats what you call KILLING a great Clash track. Stick to ballads or something Boss

  • Geez Bruce loosen up a bit. Funny for a guy in his sixties to cover this...should've done it in his 80's heyday. Would've meant more. Love his old stuff. He has become a boring old commie sympathizer.

  • @wingnutt41 He just realized that right-wingers are retards.

  • who is the woman on acoustic guitar?

  • @masepidesevive Soozie Tyrell

  • Doesn't beat Joe though

  • Showed this to my 16 old daughter who has been to a few gigs. She thought it was incredible and then nearly fell off her chair when I told her this was the first track not the encore as she thought! That's Bruce for you!

  • sei sempre il numero uno by titti

  • AMERICAN MADE!

  • God helg!!!!!

  • Thanks Boss, Joe would be proud

  • Nice job Bruce, I was a little worried with a tune so legendary as this.

  • because of his face and camera angle, it sometimes looks like Bruce is Jacking off lol

  • good to see him give the Clash some love.

  • Jeez! Calm down bruce. You're going bust a bloodvessel

  • what a powerfull voice

  • .. E' sesso allo stato puro!!!!

  • This is pretty slick!

  • Awesome drumming from Michael Douglas!

  • @baddog255 Michael Dougless lol that is a good one.

  • is that Harold Ramis from Ghostbusters on the drums?

  • @ljwright1

    Dickhead

  • @ljwright1 no he's Michael Douglas

  • More grit, Telecaster and common prayer from the other Only Band That Matters. LONDON IS DROWNING AND I LIVE BY THE RIVER...and it ain't just London, you know? Keep callin', fellas--some of these days, people gonna answer. <3

  • Not trying to say Bruce is bad,but (and I'm a big fan.) Bruce should try to consider leaving the E Str. Band and do more acoustic shows or shows with a smaller band cuz saying Bruce is getting better and better is sounding like you're hearing what you want to hear instead of noticing that he's really starting to get a little too old for this..He still has a great voice, but with a band like this behind him you can tell that his voice doesn't cut it anymore..and it hurts me to say, believe me..

  • @jkj10 I agree that sometimes his voice isn't up to par. However, more often than not he still delivers. It's a fact that during this part of the tour he had a cold, so, that's probably a factor on this an other songs at Hyde Park and Glastonbury.

  • THANKS. I love it

    I have seen you @rome @Milan @Florence @Bologna.....

  • Does Max have a computer in his kit? What's over his knee at 0:43?

  • Bruce was 3 years older than than Joe,and from a different Nation,a different world!.

The fact that he was,and still is, a fan shows the depth and breath of the bosses love of music ,and proves in my mind, his own worth.

People talk about Guthrie,Elvis,Cash and Dylan as being the "Great Four" in American Music",but Springsteen can surely stand shoulder to shoulder with them all!.

  • The Boss is th best thing that ever happend to music, he doesent do anything shit and he foucuses only on music. So many star has fallen because they were just stupid(Michael Jackson) but this guy, never drygs or anything shit, just the pure music of a working class man

  • Respect for two reasons.

    1. Not too shabby performance from "The Boss", a Clash classic.

    2. Max Weinberg.

  • I bet Joe Strummer is dancing in the grave after hearing Bruce's cover of the Clash hymn!! It's sure great watching how the E street (Steve and Max) is fully enjoying the song... and the London crowd cryin' I live by the riverrrr!!! ARRGGGHHH Good place to have been to... Makes me feel like goin' to London... Anyone coming over there??

  • This is a song originally by the Clash.

  • @xeractus think we guessed that :)

  • Can't wait for June 22nd, 2010 for the DVD release. Thanks Bruce for all the great tunes and shows!!

  • Bruce rocks. I've been to five of his concerts. 60 years old and still rocks the place and plays for three hours

  • The hair on my arms stood right up. Wow.

    This was one intense performance.

  • Why did Bruce and Joe never get around to doing songs together? Oh yea, because they would have blown our mere mortal minds, that's it =D

  • @joeisaflyingfish Couldn't have said it better.

  • it's funny how bruce looks a bit like strummer. maybe cause they have a similar hairdo and both play a tele :P

  • at 1:12 you can see clearly that Little Steven didn't know the complete lyrics

  • Muitos aí a vibrar e muitos mais deste lado tristes por não ter estado lá também, mas sentem a na mesma a energia e euforia que só o Bruce consegue transmitir.

  • Yeah kinda take your point RudyCasordapek. But seeing how meticulous Bruce seems to be about live performance, I can't believe he would have watched this back and not held his head in his hands. Just like Patti (think 'Spare Parts' on the Tunnel Tour) he totally ruins anything he sings on. 'Wrecking Ball' is great until Stevie chimes in. There's no escaping it - if he was singing in your local pub you'd kick him out.

  • @going24dark True enough. Bruce is meticulous, but what can he do? Little Steven schlepped with Bruce when they were teenagers up and down the boardwalk carrying guitars and speakers. Steven is a part of him. You never hear Stevens voice on studio recordings (at least it's not noticible). Plus, the fans love Steven almost as much as they love Clarence.

  • pretty awsum

  • IDOL!

  • You can all say whatever, but here's to Joe

    *drink!

  • Little Steven must be the World's worst singer. He totally fucks this up and is just embarassing. He clearly hardly knows the words. Cracking version until he opens his mouth. Sack him Bruce - he just looks stupid.

  • @going24dark - It looks to me like he's having a hard time hearing, besides him watching Bruce for visual clues, see his hand move to his right ear several times. It's the universal gesture to the sound guy to turn the monitors up. It doesn't look like the sound guy saw it.

  • @going24dark Steve is appropriately ragged. When he sings on Springsteen songs, they work much better together. I'm not sure he should have done this song, but he was a friend to Joe, so I think it's a tribute rather than art.

  • Damn seen the lin up for 2010? its insane

  • amazing!! i was there 8D

  • awsome version bruce can do anything and make it great

  • @chuck21drum

    Who the fuck is Matt?

  • Haha it's all good.

  • His name is Max.

  • Rock legend, and like all true rock legends he gets his come face out on stage 1:46, classic! hahaha!

"poor men wana be rich, rich men wana be kings, kings aint satisfied 'till they have everything!"

  • He may be the Boss, but ain't no Joe Strummer.

  • you're right, bruce can perform AND sing. or is that too technical?

  • I love Springsteen AND his music, but I just prefer the Clash's version.

Usually bands perform their own material better than other people do. Common sense, really.

  • This was just a perfect moment, great weather, great music.....the man and the band are legends

  • bruce is tha man bruce is the man with tha guitar bruce is tha BOSS.

  • omfg i want tickets for the 2010 festival :S

  • @Nevermind900426 sprinsteen wont be there though!

  • @infeted14 yea i know but imagen see pearl jam and wolfmother there!!!!!!! also alots of other awesome band its an epic line up this year! :O

  • Steven Van Zandt is in his element here....He can do just about any style of guitar music, but he seems amazing in Punk...or Bruce's music

  • Comment removed

  • bruce springsteen is my true ROCK GOD..

  • Absolutley. He is amazing and a great inspiration to me in many ways.

  • How I wish to see Strummer/Springsteen together...great Bruce...R.I.P. Joe

  • The worlds most anti nuclear song!!!!

  • For some reasona lot of Clash songs remind me of Springsteen.

  • I watch this one alot. Realizing if they screwed it uo there would have been a riot.

  • if theres one man to do strummer justice, its the boss! legend

  • that's just like my dream: the boss singing the clash.

it's as if bb king had covered the stones of something like that

  • it's amazing clash cover

  • I'm sorry. But this is hilarious. I understand a prompter...but gosh. It's not a T.V. to watch while you play.

  • a true legend!!!

  • I'm sure the prompter's just there for back up. I'm sure if you had even 1/2 as many songs as Springsteen you'd need a prompter yourself

  • He has been using a prompter since the early 90's, And I don't see anything wrong with it at all! :)

  • nor do i

  • That is pure gold! I love this version!:) THE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSS! London Calling!

  • amazing from the BOSSSSSSSS!

  • ke spettacolo the boss un mito bellissima canzone e a 60 nn ti fermi un attimo mammamia

  • It's funny that he covers the Clash because I see a lot of similarities between Strummer & Springsteen. They are based in early roots rock, write great lyrics and were consummate performers. Bruce was also a big fan of Warren Zevon who was also talented as hell.

  • Bruce just doesn't put any effort into his preformances anymore. His heart just isn't in it no more. Kinda sad to see him fade like this .. LMAO .. that was AMAZING!

The crazy thing is - that would be amazing for a 25 year old, let alone a 60 year old. He just never stops getting better and better.

Seen him twice in Dublin this year and he rocked it for almost 5 hours over the two nights.

Hope he plays the new O2 here soon - Dear God let it happen. God bless The Boss.

  • I was at both but i mistaked them for heaven

  • Yeah, they were great, as always.

Crazy how healthier than ever he's looking too. I wonder if he sleeps, can't imagine it.

I look at all the dates he's doing on Backstreets and part of me thinks 'Bruce, go home man, you need to rest for the love of God!'.

Then though there is selfish side of me that just thinks 'Come on Bruce, it's been six months, I need more, play here, play here!" :)

Not just Terry .. they broke the mould for you too Bruce .. and that's the cold hard truth.

  • @IrelandCaptured are you nuts ? lol

  • @IrelandCaptured its kinda hard when your 60

  • @wildmen224 Read my full comment, not the first line.

  • @IrelandCaptured: I totally agree! I saw Bruce in Udine, Italy last summer - his performance was incredible.

  • i was there!!!!!!!

  • I was there too, woohoo

  • The Clash is about my favorite band. Thanks BS&ESB

    Long live Joe

Too bad I missed Bruce this tour

London Calling was a landmark album

  • i love the way you can see they don't know the lyrics that well XD gotta love bruce and the band, they always do a great job performing!

  • the boss is tippin his hat live and listen big ben

  • Joe would rock in his grave....great!!!!

  • Bruce ist ein Held, genau wie Atze aus Braunschweig

  • I WAS THERE HE WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!!

  • I have to be honest, I love The Clash, and I love Bruce, but i'm not digging this at all. At least someone still cares about The Clash enough to cover a song though...

  • dude i never thought of that, but i suppose your right! i will say you can never get bored of the recording. even played live at the time they could never get it as perfect as the recording due to the many many layers.

check out the wings for wheels documentary! its very interesting!=] i got it with the 30th box set. i have to say that born to run has to be my favorite album. i cant help but be amazed at how well the album was put together. the lyrics are awesome. he has some not so good stuff

  • Look, I love Bruce Springsteen. I've favourited more of his videos than any other singer/songwriter, with the exception of Joni Mitchell ('cause I'm a girl, not a "dude"). I just bought his CD "Magic" yesterday. No joke. Kinda late, but I'm a procrastinator. I own all of his albums except "The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle", "The Seeger Sessions", and "Working on a Dream". I'll buy 'em some day.

  • My favourite album is Darkness.... I don't think he's made as good an album since.

What bothers me about him, & what has always bothered me, are the sycophantic journalists who treat everything he's released as a masterpiece. He's released a lot of bad songs ("Mary's Place"....ugh), but, when he writes a great one ("Ghost of Tom Joad", for eg), few can beat him. The journalists will praise "The Ghost of Tom Joad" as much as they praise "Mary's Place"......they've lost all frame of reference.

  • Too much praise, too much press, unfortunately, means less space devoted to other worthy artists. Good example - last week Mary Travers from Peter, Paul & Mary died, one of the most influential folk artists who ever lived, a woman who marched with Dr Martin Luther King Jr & sang at his "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington, DC. Slate, a popular political/cultural site, said not one word about her, but did yet another piece on Bruce. I did a search....they've never mentioned her...not once.

  • So, my problem, I guess is more to do with the sycophants who write about him, than Bruce himself. Although he doesn't do himself any good by having a guy like Dave Marsh as his biographer. He's got a choice there, and he's decided to choose Dave Marsh, King of the Sycophants, who doesnt write biographies on Bruce as much as hagiographies. To me, thats more than dishonest, it's shameful.

  • I thought I saw Bruce riding down Highway 9 on a chopper just the other day.

  • Yeah, right.

Are you talking about Hwy #9 in Manitoba?

How do you know about Hwy #9 ??

  • Thats fucking cool ...........

  • I complain he never comes to Western Canada & someone marks my post as spam. Censorship helps nobody. idiot.

As far as who decides where he goes, don't tell me he doesn't have a say in it. He goes to Eastern Canada because that's where the people are.....more people...more ticket sales.

In the last year, I have gone to concerts by Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, & John Fogerty in Winnipeg. They have no problem coming here & they've been here many times before. Bob Dylan was also here recently.

  • I'm 15 years old and am a huge Springsteen fan, although I have to admit I don't really like the Clash, Bruce's version of this song rocks.

  • actually bruce just got me into the clash! i went and bought the london calling album today. its actually quite good=]

and another springsteen album to add to my almost complete collection! its really hard to find the 2 albums before born to run. its impossible! u can prob get them online tho=]

  • I frikin hate clash verzhun

  • Happy B-Day Bruce !

  • Happy birthday, Bruce!!!!!!!

    Greetings from Norway!

  • Happy Birthday "Boss"

    (from Brazil)

  • springsteen is not a shitty 'tribute band'.

i think it's great, and i think strummer would agree.

springsteen's earned his dues, and then some.

fuck off little boy 'clash tribute bands' this is how to show respect.

and if you can ever draw a crowd like that.........

  • Great show, I did like one critic's review. apparently the crowd was boo'ing Bruce. Stupid Tart. Obviously knows nothing about Bruce Springsteen, which means she knows nothing about music. ITS BRUUUUUUUUUCEEEEE not BOOOOOOOOO.

  • 10/10 for whoever was assigned to finding a "crowd pleaser"

    he carried it off :)

I never thought Omid Djalili would sing with the boss though..rock on brother...rock on!

  • Classic... Bruce was big into punk when he started out

  • really really good tribute to joe and the clash. bravo bruce springsteen.

  • i want to see Sprigsteen in Portugal..

    come on Bruce..

  • He was just in Spain.......there was a picture of him in a recent Rolling Stone Magazine in the water there.

He has ignored Western Canada.........I don't think he's even played here once......in his life!! He can go to Spain but he can't travel a few miles to Western Canada.

    Hmpph.

  • You seriously think that Bruce decides where he tours? Jesus christ,...

  • Yes...he has allot of say on where he goes! He has since he made the charts!

Allot of people don't go to Western Canada

and Fleetwood Mac only this year made it and postpone one of them...talk about some pissed off people! Who can blame them. And Bruce of all artists should have given Western Canada at least a couple of shows! I am from NJ but I agree if you are going to do a world tour picking and choosing and the touring agents saying NO to certain parts of Canada.... in my eyes is Fkt up!
