@byronh88 Yes, I would narrow it down even more. Do fashion or art only. Do a google search for "how to do keyword research" for tips on how to narrow down a topic using the available tools online like Google AdWords Keyword Tool, WordTracker, etc.

While I agree with you on the affordability of the internet when compared to the rest of the Brick & Mortar retail as well as a global reach V.S. a local customer base. I have to disagree with you on the subject of free web hosting I used to pay for hosting ($8.95 mo. 24-7 host & realized only a 78% uptime at best, then I went nearly free (.25 a Gb BW to keep the adult adds off for a non-adult site =) until I received that unpalatable shutdown notice so I switched, in min. elsewhere also free!

hostgator and hostmonster are the best (and a pretty good price). but if all you have is html/css/javascript code (and not cgi programming or php) you can get a free website at co .cc or dot .tk. i only use them for simple websites but they're pretty good.

I like all of your videos. The truth with web hosting is that eventually you will be able to pay for it with Google Ad sense. I use Godaddy Shared hosting and in about a month I had a whole year already payed for.

For your information, most free web hosting services now let you use php, e-mail, and dns. You can get your own free domain name, and set it up for your hosting, and it all looks very professional. My sites are all completely free, and they look great. No one would ever think that it is a free host. My sites have no forced ads, unlimited everything, and by the way, most free hosting is better than paid hosting now. I have compared them, and my hosting beats all the other paid ones.
Aside from the hosting service that you need, you are already most likely investing money in order to build your website. You need either someone to design your site, or a program like Dreamweaver ($400.00), in order to create it. Your point about people not investing money into a website if they choose free hosting is invalid. Also, the amount of time spent making your site is not worth it if you have to pay extra for hosting. Also, some free hosting is better than the paid ones. Like mine.
Nice video but what i have found is the monthly price of host sites is misleading it may say $6.95 a month but every site i find makes you pay a year or more in advance and with the economy getting worse everyday i can not afford to pay upfront costs i really only can pay the $6.95 a month but like i said i have yet to find a host site that actually charges monthly

^_^ you made me happy when you mentioned writing code from scratch, I made webpages rather than paper projects for school . One time something didn't work right so I edited it on the spot with notepad and got some extra credit for really knowing what I made.

Good video, I wouldn't have a business on a free account. But to see if it's a worthy investment while I am unemployed I would have to do it free just as a little project to see if affiliate marketing is something I could do or get into. I totally agree with you that do not use free hosting if you are serious about making money online. Base on my experience, free web host has many limitation, even though they claim their up time is more than 99%. If you just want to play around, yes...you may use free host.

I got around the "free web hosting" dilemma by turning a desktop PC into my own web server. There's a bit of a technical learning curve here, but Apache, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin...all that software is 100% free.
I also do not recommend running Windows on a web server machine. Linux is the preferred OS of choice when doing this. Many different distributions of Linux are available and except for Red Hat, most Linux distributions are also free.
I think, predominantly, it's that for the beginning of the internet, most stuff was free. I made a free webpage and have had it running for a few years for nothing.
I do think this is an important video to explain it's still not bad, but people are (in my opinion) only peeved because they remember the golden age of the Internet.

I have to comment about the Notepad and learning HTML issue - as someone who studied HTML from scratch and knows how much work and time it takes, and with the easy FREE solutions there are out there today, i'd recommend for beginners to start with Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla. I guess most "normal" people would give up on Notepad and HTML after seeing how much they have to learn. Those free CMS just make it so much easier. HTML is very important to know, but you can study it through CMS too :)

You can, im doing it right now, just bought a dell power edge for it. You have to keep the computer on 24/7, have a redundent powersuply for brownouts, more expensife, but i want the control. If your not technical like me, then just pay for a service.

No, the real truth is you don't have to pay anyone anything. I saw your comment on the other vid and I'm not familiar with the Google kit. I learned how to drive traffic to my site by reading other blogs and sites. Not saying they are a scam but you don't have to pay anyone anything to learn how to market your site. Be careful.

GoDaddy, HostGator, Powweb, DreamHost, etc. They're all pretty similar and credible. I don't know what your plan is but switching from hosts often can be a pain once you start getting a lot of files. So I would find one host and stick with it.
Oh my god you ain't ever lied! Free webhosting services to start your own business is the worst. I hate the fact they often put their own ads on the pages and are many times unreliable which kills the business. That's why I stick with RM though, just the same, I can't stand free hostings for running a business. Personal webpage about my dog or cat, sure.

1. they are for free.
2. you can try how a website is build without costs
3. you can get experience.
4. they are easy for non-commercial purposes.
5. you can find out how your website attracks visitors without costs.
6. without a free try out someone might pay some money and find out that the idea does not work after spending the precious dollars.
7. there is no pressure to earn back the invested money.

3-6 dollars is so little! Some people buy latte's and Mountain Dews daily. If I am passionate about my blogspot to make it work and it does come successful, do you have any advice on how to transfer the information over? At the moment I am just trying to get my feet wet and I will have lots of time this summer to be busy with it and I will be looking at html and css to see if that is something I will be capable of learning.

I like all of your videos. The truth with web hosting is that eventually you will be able to pay for it with Google Ad sense. I use Godaddy Shared hosting and in about a month I had a whole year already payed for.

For your information, most free web hosting services now let you use php, e-mail, and dns. You can get your own free domain name, and set it up for your hosting, and it all looks very professional. My sites are all completely free, and they look great. No one would ever think that it is a free host. My sites have no forced ads, unlimited everything, and by the way, most free hosting is better than paid hosting now. I have compared them, and my hosting beats all the other paid ones.

Aside from the hosting service that you need, you are already most likely investing money in order to build your website. You need either someone to design your site, or a program like Dreamweaver ($400.00), in order to create it. Your point about people not investing money into a website if they choose free hosting is invalid. Also, the amount of time spent making your site is not worth it if you have to pay extra for hosting. Also, some free hosting is better than the paid ones. Like mine.

Nice video but what i have found is the monthly price of host sites is misleading it may say $6.95 a month but every site i find makes you pay a year or more in advance and with the economy getting worse everyday i can not afford to pay upfront costs i really only can pay the $6.95 a month but like i said i have yet to find a host site that actually charges monthly

Hello there :) I'm doing a little better for myself since I last looked at your vid. I didn't really use any of your advice yet, but I got 10k views after 2 months :) It definitely helps to write good material and comment on other people's sites even if you don't get comments right away. IT PAYS OFF.
But I have to move to a different host because Justhost said I take up too much cpu proceses...can you help me..???

^_^ you made me happy when you mentioned writing code from scratch, I made webpages rather than paper projects for school . One time something didn't work right so I edited it on the spot with notepad and got some extra credit for really knowing what I made.

now, about free hosting, what's so hard to move a site to another host?
some hosts have automated software to transfer all your site to them when you transferring to them ON A UTTON CLICK
a lot of these cheap hosts. 5$ / month give me unlimited bandwith and some 150mb space. what do you need more?

Good video, I wouldn't have a business on a free account. But to see if it's a worthy investment while I am unemployed I would have to do it free just as a little project to see if affiliate marketing is something I could do or get into. If I put it to the test an it seems worth the time yeah then I would go the route of buying the domain. Just my thoughts on this.

I totally agree with you that do not use free hosting if you are serious about making money online. Base on my experience, free web host has many limitation, even though they claim their up time is more than 99%. If you just want to play around, yes...you may use free host.

I got around the "free web hosting" dilemma by turning a desktop PC into my own web server. There's a bit of a technical learning curve here, but Apache, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin...all that software is 100% free.
I also do not recommend running Windows on a web server machine. Linux is the preferred OS of choice when doing this. Many different distributions of Linux are available and except for Red Hat, most Linux distributions are also free.

I think, predominantly, it's that for the beginning of the internet, most stuff was free. I made a free webpage and have had it running for a few years for nothing.
I do think this is an important video to explain it's still not bad, but people are (in my opinion) only peeved because they remember the golden age of the Internet.

I played with that. It's nice but theres no options if say you want to start an online store. If you want to just have a text info site it's good but stores and things wont work.

I really enjoyed this video. But I have to disagree a bit. Some web hosts have been stable for me. Business hosting would not be very smart though. Why wouldn't you pay more for stability and more features. And beside hosting and domain prices are reasonable. Oh yeah I have a personal web site can I just keep that on free? I am in High School and have no money or credit card :( Another great video!

I have to comment about the Notepad and learning HTML issue - as someone who studied HTML from scratch and knows how much work and time it takes, and with the easy FREE solutions there are out there today, i'd recommend for beginners to start with Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla. I guess most "normal" people would give up on Notepad and HTML after seeing how much they have to learn. Those free CMS just make it so much easier. HTML is very important to know, but you can study it through CMS too :)

You can, im doing it right now, just bought a dell power edge for it. You have to keep the computer on 24/7, have a redundent powersuply for brownouts, more expensife, but i want the control. If your not technical like me, then just pay for a service.

Thank you for uploading this, it was refreshing to have someone with experience genuinely state their opinions on web hosting. I have a habit of registering domains but then transferring to a free hosting site which I'll probably stop doing.
Also, thank you for the web host recommendation, I register with godaddy but their web hosting seems sloppy to me and its often hard to know which hosting reviews are honest.

I agree, renting a web hotel is really cheap, if you want to earn money, you should at least be willing to pay that. What I did, was to create my firs website on a free web host, just to see how it went. You shouldn't pay just to learning that this isn't anything for you. I also use free web hosting to develop new web site ideas that i have. If they don't work,the worst thing that might happen is that I actually learned something.But once you have a website working, buy a domain and get started.

Thanks! I'm pretty nervous about this. I sent you a question on one of your other youtbe's. Is it true that I must pay 74.00 a month with adsense. Then additional montlhy fees for things like directing you on ow to get traffic to your website for another 34.00 a mo. and so on an so forth. They are trying to get me to purchase other services to help my website but it's 4 different additional fees -like after 15 to 21 days. Does this sound right or familiar to you?

No, the real truth is you don't have to pay anyone anything. I saw your comment on the other vid and I'm not familiar with the Google kit. I learned how to drive traffic to my site by reading other blogs and sites. Not saying they are a scam but you don't have to pay anyone anything to learn how to market your site. Be careful.

GoDaddy, HostGator, Powweb, DreamHost, etc. They're all pretty similar and credible. I don't know what your plan is but switching from hosts often can be a pain once you start getting a lot of files. So I would find one host and stick with it.

Oh my god you ain't ever lied! Free webhosting services to start your own business is the worst. I hate the fact they often put their own ads on the pages and are many times unreliable which kills the business. That's why I stick with RM though, just the same, I can't stand free hostings for running a business. Personal webpage about my dog or cat, sure.
