  • Nice mod on a nice rig:-))

  • Really nice job and it looks good to boot.

  • As i see, it works great. The best thing is it doesn't influence at all the RF part, not introducing spurs or other noises.

I want to ask if you used some kind of shield and special power decoupling of the module, because about every microcontroller (PIC or AVR) module I used inside a radio caused birdies and other noises at some frequencies on the bands. Once I've got noise from pulses on the LED display signals (because of digit switching). Thanks, 73!

  • Yes, there is some noise from the muxed display. I wired the display power supply to the dial light switch on the back of the radio, so when the dial lights are off the display is also off. Of course I also lose the freq lock function if I want to hear a weak signal in where there is some LED noise.

  • Thanks for the quick reply, hopefully i will solve the problems in my counter - i think it's because of layout and long connections. 73!

  • Just curios, why didn´t you make the counter in a separate box? that way more leds should be added for a larger display.

    Great project indeed.

  • Hi,

I don't have a practical reason. I like the look with the display in the radio.

73 and thanks for the comment.

  • NOW THAT is what real ham radio is. Im not too bad on the building portion and i have a really big respect for the hams who keep the old ways.
