Blu-ray has ''genetically'' better picture quality, because higher image quality means higher capacity requirements. Let's say that a regular DVD movie is around 1-2GB, a blu ray can hold 25GB, so it is around %25 better quality.
Winners: DVD: for the movies released before the HD days, the quality I really can't tell much of a difference or is it that my Player is just upconverting them...Blu Ray: for the newer hit movies that I epically love. and HDDVD: a epic fail, but still a good buy as long as you got your 1080p HDDVD Player more power to you for HD costs.
I could go rambling on about how superior blu ray is and break my character limit, but I'll just say the biggest difference is that the actual blu ray PLAYERS are more powerful than the HD DVD ones. The technology is just far superior, in every way.
@NickRiviera10 Well it obviously does because collectors are still buying the format to this day..the interest in the format is their for people who seek it out..now go elsewhere.
@Thegateoftruth1 The collectors are buying it because they are idiots but in fcat HD DVD is dead R.I.P. COLD, freezed, passed out HD DVD doesn't sound as cool as Blu Ray pirriot! LOL!
@NickRiviera10 Yes because people who buy a dead format for collecting are clearly idiots..that makes no sense whatsoever..your flawed logic is ridiculous..I own both formats and love them equally now since you have nothing intelligent to say I'll be leaving to other things that are worthy of my time.
@Thegateoftruth1 c'mon let's be fair your time doesn't worth a penny, and there are people who are seeking it out because they bought HD DVD'S before Blu Ray wiped them out, so now they want to find the HD player so they can play again those films, idiots LOL!
@NickRiviera10 My time is worth far more then yours I assure you..Firstly learn how to write properly before you insult me and secondly you're clearly a pompous douchebag who has far to much time on your hands..I suggest you get a hobby..actions like yours is simply unhealthy at your age.
@Thegateoftruth1 write properly, really? why is there any problem? idiot. Anyway, I assure you your time isn't worthy 'n you have answered all my responses so if I have a lot of time you've got a lot of time, right? That's obvious 'n my age...tell me what is that what is...HD DVD lives on! is that something of a man of your own age? LOL!!! you are so damn funny, everything you said is everything you have complained about is everything you have done...what a douchebag!!! LIMAO!!! HD DVD is dead.
@Thegateoftruth1 C'MON! I've seen your profile, just like you have done with mine 'n tell me HOW OLD ARE U?! 10? you must be a fucking pedo or something, talking about age LOL! by the way, is that proper enough for you?
its all in the physical data storage methods that makes it better.
hd-dvd has wider pits and longer grooves that are marked by the burner to store data which are ideal for playing multimedia like music and movies as well as storing many file formats on a single disc but have less space.
bluray has shorter pits and thinner grooves which is ideal for massive storage of individual files (ie. games and documents) but not playback of larger ones (ie. movies and music)
Blu-Ray is cheaper (now it is compared to HD DVD), HD DVD was XBOX 360 ($300) + HD DVD ($100) = $400. Though, PS3 is $300, and Blu-Ray players now are $50 - $100
Isn't this kinda pointless since hd lost the battle the more important video would to discuss the programming problems of bluray since there still isn't a universal standard codex for it officially.
I bet she gets the ps3 for its faggoty dildo they call a motion controller, no really sony your controller looks like a vibrating color changing dildo.
i think Blu-ray will take the place of HD DVD, or the related with the development of technology. If conditions permitted, Blu-ray 3D will be very hot in the next few years.

@NielsShoe Not all blu rays are wide screen tho. Just the other week i rented A Clockwork orange on blu ray and it had a terrible aspect ration of 4:3!!!!
@kabelfjernsyn This is exactly why I stopped listening to Cnet a long time ago. They are clearly bias. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if they were accepting bribes to praise some products and companies more than others. They're about as trustworthy as a grinning used car saleman.
i hate blue ray. like it took me about 8 yrs to buy all my movies over in dvd from vhs and i dont wanna do the same with blu ray. plus blu ray is way too expensive. like there is no need for a movie to be 24 or 26 bucks
@thebuckrogers22 if you bought ur dvd's when dvd's came out... they were expensive too!--now theyre cheap.
just hold on to ur dvd's ---only buy blu ray when ur a fan of the movie and really would want to see it in HD - (which to me. doesnt matter) -- but later on in life, ull be able to probably buy a $10 blu ray disc.
1. We don't wish to buy another piece of expensive hardware to play a movie that looks fine on DVD.
2. We cannot rip a Blue Ray disc easily and the time we would have to take to condense all that unnecessary detail in movies. I don't have a TV that is the size of my wall.
Blu Ray is better but not worth it. Why pay more money for a player and more money for a br disc when you can get a disc and still watch your movie on a DVD? Who cares if the capacity is higher? The quality is better but not by much. All I'm saying is DVD can save money and still get the job done.

Why must there be good and bad in both life's hard out here all i want to do is buy a single disc and get my ass home and not worrying DID i fucking screw up on picking up my disc. WTF IS THIS MAN WHY MUST THE INDUSTRY MAKE THINGS SO COMPILICATED!??!
@Slaterking2010 You seriously need to read more books or have some more social chatting out with someone else instead of sitting behide the computer all day, im asking why cant there be one perfect disc why must there be 2 kinds. Whats impossible people has gone up to the moon already. I'm only asking why cant there be one universal disc where it would have the best graphic and sound quality out from a disc. Why must there be two kinds of them and each one have something better than the other.
The future is Blu-Rays with more layers running on Quad HD OLED screens they already have a working six layer blu-rays for experiemts with quad HD . The trouble with consumers if they want bigger and bigger TVs 1080p is very detaled but on a 200" screen it looks like VHS.
@P1n0iGam3rS only the bad thing about most dvd's is that there not in wide screen. VHS was. most blu rays aren't wide screen anyway and that really ruins a lot of it for me. It's like whats the point of getting a massive flat screen TV when you can't watch wide screen
Yeah, sure. Enjoy your heavily encrypted, no features attached, out of your control content that you'll never be able to share. Oh, and what will happen when some content on your downloaded media becomes out of copyright? They'll most likely pull it from their shops and disable your ability to play it. That's how DIVX worked. And what about back ups? Tangible mediums give you plenty of opportunity for that. I can back up my BluRays.
@daybreak4491 no, bluray was developed by the bluray disc association. which is made up of several other companys, Sony (duh), Panasonic, Pioneer (drive manufacturer of the ps3 and 360), Philips (drive manufacturer of the ps3 and 360), Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi (xbox 360 dvd drive manufacturer), Sharp, and Samsung (another dvd drive manufacturer for the xbox)
sony was one of the companys because of its background with hardware, not an owner.
ive got the Same opinion apart from the Price i would give DVD 4 and Blue Ray 2 Points. i don't really want to buy Blue Ray but Alice in wonderland has only the features on Blue ray- hole Features! ; ( and As à huuuuge aiw Fan i have to get the Features.. but i have nö Money to buy à Blue Ray Player.. whatever in the Background u can See Clips from corpse Bride and Pirates *yaaay*
Blueray is the future right.. but which people go and buy for every film a blueray disc we all know that we never buy films we watch it in the internet or... ;D
0:18 LMAO like geeks can really tell the difference looking at screen that is so tiny at that distance, it might as well be a VHS tape playing.
My only hope is bluray sales drop and people wise up to the fact that most/most not all but (most shouldnt be having colour manipulation applied to this so called perfect format LMAO) I have only seen a few a few in my collection that mirror the colour of the cinema version a few! And few is just not good enough.
You really have, no clue what so ever! Capacity is meaningless if the video transfer is of poor colour brightness contrast balance that will result in with not true to what one saw at the cinema when a film is projected with natural colours and light source.
Colours like blue background with a white light in between with nearly most major titles from yesterday that have been so poorly disrespected in regards to proper balance, gives a green hazy like smearing around the white.
Blu ray holds more and is harder to scratch and if it is scratched it still doesn't effect the movie so thats good if you have kids that like to go and try to mess with everything
Ohh dear.. I'm happy this girl didn't know anything about it. It would really have sucked to have both HD DVD and Blu-ray.. Having some "exclusive titles" on HD DVD and other on blu-ray :-S. Would have been a freaking nightmare for movie fans. It's also kind of strange how she suddenly calls it a "draw".. seemed like Blu-ray was winning.
@elsamuraiguapo No one uses compact discs. We use DVD and Blu-ray discs! And what kind of idiot uses his pc as a movieplayer! Then you have to rip all of your movies (or dl illegally in inferior quality), dealing with the noise, waiting for it to boot-up, adjusting the output signal for watching movies and dealing with dual-screen hell. And in exactly what way is you PC better? The resolution is set in stone. And real moviefans probably want the best movies on the shelf anyway.
@jesperc20 You're the idiot. Both DVD's and Blu-rays are still compact discs. Only difference is they have more storage.
Secondly, you're an even bigger idiot if you believe all you said about the above. I'm going to ignore all those thing you said about inferior quality and resolutions and dual screens because they're all false.
As for you question, why is the PC better? Let's see, how about having nearly 1.5 terabytes of movies on a HDD rather than having to constantly pop discs in and out?
@elsamuraiguapo Use wiki you dummy - CD (Compact Disc) is not the same as a DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) or Blu-ray. You're embarrassing yourself with your public displays of both ignorance and arrogance. Downloaded content (BD-rips) are often inferior in quality compared to blu-rays due to compression. Regardless of that.. I'm sure (from experience) that the quality of using your pc as a player is not as good as a blu-ray player. It lacks the right picture settings and enhancement functions.
@elsamuraiguapo But if you love your mega storage so much.. you should get a popcorn-hour or WD-tv box.. it'll make your overall movie experience much more pleasing. This is coming from someone who has both a pc with HDMI, blu-ray and a media player box. Using a pc as a movie player is a hassle and inferior to other solutions in all aspects. Buy a freaking media player for 100$ and drop the lousy and noisy hassle of a PC-solution.
ugh.. thank god the blu guys won the war, i knew it since they cant stop production of blu-ray disks for the ps3, all ps3 games are on blu-ray disks. :)
Blu-ray has ''genetically'' better picture quality, because higher image quality means higher capacity requirements. Let's say that a regular DVD movie is around 1-2GB, a blu ray can hold 25GB, so it is around %25 better quality.

@windflasher0 I know that :))
P1n0iGam3rS 1 year ago
@P1n0iGam3rS only the bad thing about most dvd's is that there not in wide screen. VHS was. most blu rays aren't wide screen anyway and that really ruins a lot of it for me. It's like whats the point of getting a massive flat screen TV when you can't watch wide screen

Will? Its already over!
LordShorty84 1 year ago
@P1n0iGam3rS VHS was over 10 years older than DVD kid. DVD beat Laser Disc. And VHS beat BetaMax.

"Downloadable HD Content. That's my choice."
I can back up my BluRays.

daybreak4491 9 months ago
@daybreak4491 I know, Just sayin' :)
DeadSpace2Necromorph 9 months ago
@daybreak4491 no, bluray was developed by the bluray disc association. which is made up of several other companys, Sony (duh), Panasonic, Pioneer (drive manufacturer of the ps3 and 360), Philips (drive manufacturer of the ps3 and 360), Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi (xbox 360 dvd drive manufacturer), Sharp, and Samsung (another dvd drive manufacturer for the xbox)
sony was one of the companys because of its background with hardware, not an owner.
bluray could very easily be in the next xbox.

@SuperSpoofStudios It's actually Sony vs. Toshiba...

@Chiva2699 I know but I don't think it's a coincedence that microsoft is with toshiba and apple is with blu-ray

EmpireLS56KW 1 year ago
You really have, no clue what so ever! Capacity is meaningless if the video transfer is of poor colour brightness contrast balance that will result in with not true to what one saw at the cinema when a film is projected with natural colours and light source.
Colours like blue background with a white light in between with nearly most major titles from yesterday that have been so poorly disrespected in regards to proper balance, gives a green hazy like smearing around the white.

Blu ray holds more and is harder to scratch and if it is scratched it still doesn't effect the movie so thats good if you have kids that like to go and try to mess with everything

BTW having a complete different name like blu ray sounds better than hd dvd.
Like VHS sounds diff to dvd. They could have called a dvd "VHSD Video Home System Disc"

Ohh dear.. I'm happy this girl didn't know anything about it. It would really have sucked to have both HD DVD and Blu-ray.. Having some "exclusive titles" on HD DVD and other on blu-ray :-S. Would have been a freaking nightmare for movie fans. It's also kind of strange how she suddenly calls it a "draw".. seemed like Blu-ray was winning.
jesperc20 1 year ago
What kind idiot even uses compact discs anymore? All of them are obsolete. My 1 terabyte HDD on my PC beats any blu ray or blu ray player.
I hope people realize that PC's and HDTV's have HDMI ports for a reason...
elsamuraiguapo 1 year ago
@elsamuraiguapo No one uses compact discs. We use DVD and Blu-ray discs! And what kind of idiot uses his pc as a movieplayer! Then you have to rip all of your movies (or dl illegally in inferior quality), dealing with the noise, waiting for it to boot-up, adjusting the output signal for watching movies and dealing with dual-screen hell. And in exactly what way is you PC better? The resolution is set in stone. And real moviefans probably want the best movies on the shelf anyway.
jesperc20 1 year ago
@jesperc20 You're the idiot. Both DVD's and Blu-rays are still compact discs. Only difference is they have more storage.
Secondly, you're an even bigger idiot if you believe all you said about the above. I'm going to ignore all those thing you said about inferior quality and resolutions and dual screens because they're all false.
As for you question, why is the PC better? Let's see, how about having nearly 1.5 terabytes of movies on a HDD rather than having to constantly pop discs in and out?
elsamuraiguapo 1 year ago
@elsamuraiguapo Use wiki you dummy - CD (Compact Disc) is not the same as a DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) or Blu-ray. You're embarrassing yourself with your public displays of both ignorance and arrogance. Downloaded content (BD-rips) are often inferior in quality compared to blu-rays due to compression. Regardless of that.. I'm sure (from experience) that the quality of using your pc as a player is not as good as a blu-ray player. It lacks the right picture settings and enhancement functions.
jesperc20 1 year ago
@elsamuraiguapo But if you love your mega storage so much.. you should get a popcorn-hour or WD-tv box.. it'll make your overall movie experience much more pleasing. This is coming from someone who has both a pc with HDMI, blu-ray and a media player box. Using a pc as a movie player is a hassle and inferior to other solutions in all aspects. Buy a freaking media player for 100$ and drop the lousy and noisy hassle of a PC-solution.
jesperc20 1 year ago
ugh.. thank god the blu guys won the war, i knew it since they cant stop production of blu-ray disks for the ps3, all ps3 games are on blu-ray disks. :)
