it would be much better if they just made airplanes more affordable to everybody and made aviation more widespread. That is the future. one day there will be no need for airline pilots as much as everybody will have there own aircraft that cross the atlantic. there is even talk of installing refueling stations over the atlantic to overcome the fuel issues of smaller aircraft.
Hello My name is Sammy Venables I enjoy flying RC Planes alot and collecting models of aircrafts. Iam 13 and I want to be a airliner pilot for BA (NEVER RYAN AIR OR ANY MICKY MOUSE AIRLINES!!!!!!) and do you have any tips from theage I am to a dream come true?
I love how the community gets together to help, Im 14 and I have flown gliders but im hoping to start working torwds powerd planes and eventualy comercal, any tips... What about collages?
@hamham500 Once you are old enough join your local flying club and work your way towards a PPL. If you ejoy it and if you feel it is something you want to take further see if you can get into one of the better flight schools that will turn you into a commercial pilot :-)
@fsclips whats PPL and im 17 and love to fly and im gonna try flight school this yr later and any tips u have to education and salary stuff please reply i need help thanks so much
@CenationHLR23 PPL = Private pilot licence, CPL = Commercial pilot licence, ATPL = Air transport pilot licence, Get into a flying club or school and see if you actually like flying and how you are doing, after that make a decision if you want to go commercial. Most of all...enjoy yourself and life above the clouds :-)
@hamham500 Was in your spot just a few years ago. As fs ,said if it's something you enjoy do it. I did my intro flight a couple of days before my 14th b-day and haven't looked back since. I have gone through the private pilot as well as the instrument syllabus. I got to solo on my 16th birthday , I have my private written, I have all flight requirements for my private as well as the solo crosscountry and done and hopefully get my instrument written done real soon. I turn 17 next month so I
@hamham500 I turn 17 next month and I finally get to take my actual flight test . So I'm prepping up for that. I have met some amazing people along the way, and have had some tremendous experiences that I will never forget ,cool thing is that, this is just the beginning. Go for it , flying has not only helped me get a head start with what I want to do with my life , but has really made me become the person I am today. So just go for it, stay involved , do as much as you can. Best wishes
@hamham500 I am 14 and already have 13 or so hours toward my PPL try to find a local flight school and go up an hour every once in a while Cessna 152s are thle cheapest at most places. You will probably be landing by your second lesson. Good Luck!
However, I am lacking the funds to pay myself my pilot's license and my parents refuse to help me with it because they are scared I won't find a job later and that it would be a waste of money.
So I'm forced to satisfy myself with some computer studies...
Well, let me make my queries a little more specific...
I, currently live in Pakistan, and I want to start my flying school after upcoming august.
My final aim is to get an ATPL, but first, I will have to get CPL/IR and start my flying hours till I get a job in any good airline like PIA (first priority), etc...
@invibaidi well, you still have all the options I mentioned available. Find out the pricing of things and do some research. I did my training at the Oxford Aviation academy in the UK. have a look at their website. By the way if go for a JAA license you do not need to do CPL first. In Europe you can get an ATPL straight away.
@fsclips "By the way if go for a JAA license you do not need to do CPL first. In Europe you can get an ATPL straight away." sentence. I got my ppl in the states..
@invibaidi Like I said above. lots of options. It also depends on where you live and/or where you want to train and what kind of license you want (JAA or FAA). Best thing to do is to look at different flight schools and their pricing and what kind of license you would rather have. In Europe you would of course need a JAA in the US and some parts of Asia FAA. If there would be only one route I would tell you but there are loads and none of them are better or worse. It just depends on you really.
@invibaidi There are lots of different ways to become a pilot. It all depends on what you want to do and what suits you best. you can go straight from school through an integrated course, you can join the military, you can gain flying experience first to see if you like it and do a PPL and join a modular course. you can gain experience and become a flight instructor before joining the airlines....etc. etc...it really depends on what you want to do and sadly, also a lot on what you can afford.
@doodoobrown1987 My advice...don't listen to them! When you are 45 or 50 and are the captain on a 777 or 787 you will laugh about these people. I also came across people that told me I was making a big mistake and that I would never succeed. Here I am, my ATPL in my bag and even though I am still waiting for my first airline job I don't regret a thing.
@doodoobrown1987 alllieeee im 12 nd i always had and always will have a dream of being a ba pilot but every1 discourages me from learning errrrww i hate those type of ppl..
Great video, really inspiring. Oh, and the quote "A journey is best measured in friends rather than miles" by Tim Cahill. Does anyone know who Tim Cahill is...surely it isn't the socceroo Tim Cahill? :D
you cannot fly commercially until you are 18 and some airlines will not hire you until you are 21. It takes about 2-3 years to complete the training. Hope that helps.

@rappinCheese You will be taught when you start flying complex aircraft. But in a very, very abbreviated version: No autothrust, no autopilot, no FD, you will have to learn all the pitch angles and power settings for each speed and flap setting and fly the plane as precise as possible with minimal fiddling in pitch and power settings, including a non-precission approach. There is a bit more to it, but you will be taught in the MCC where the whole first 4 hours are all done in raw data flying.
My i ask what quialifications have you got? And who did you train with? Im undergoing my PPL now, then trying too do some A-levels at university then joining an acdemy like OAA or CTC wings. thanks,
@fsclips I just wanted to really no what GCSE's and A levels you have. Like English or Maths. Because i have just recently started my PPL and hope to become an airline pilot. But im 15 and still at school. And i think this video is really good and youve done yourself really well.
@ThomsonAirwaysFs Well, generally it is a good idea to go with science subjects (maths, physics) and make sure your marks are not too bad. Having said that, each airline looks at these things differently and some care more than others.
@fsclips Unlucky, Don't just try the big airlines mate alot of the small ones are hiring flybe, Air southwest, Isles of Scilly Skybus, Aurigny Air Services ect. Good luck for future references :)
join air cadets mate :) im 14, been in nearly 2 years, and ive been flying 4 times and gliding 3 times, as well as shooting and loads of other things ;)
In what country do you live? In the US they have no limit on that and also in Europe they have recently changed all the rules. I believe it is now something like +/- 8 or something. If you are in Europe just call you aviation authorities and ask them. I have glasses too and the CAA was very nice about it all. They checked my eyes and told me I was good to fly.
Congratulations on graduating from OAA! It's good to see you have fulfilled the dream.
I'm planning to do my flight training with Oxford in a couple of years. Also thanks for producing all your fsclips videos over the years, good luck in your career & looking forward to your next project!
I envy you massively. I always wanted to be an airline pilot since I was a young boy but I didn't get the GSCEs I needed at school. My Maths is awful and I had to let go of the dream. Well done.
My congratulations that you made it! I am sure that it is a great feeling to hold the certificate in your hands. i hope that you enjoy being a pilot and i really am looking forward to your next FS video projects if there will be...
your so lucky..id do anything to be a pilot after high school. but these days the only pilots getting hired are ex-military pilots..its a dream crusher
Do you have to be really smart to get trained at oxford like what are the requirments if u do your school in canada lets say :D 'cause i got some problems with math and phyisics are they easy in aviation or hard:D ..is the course expensieve? thnks:D
unfortunately maths and physisc are huge in aviation. durimg the groundschool you will have to use a lot of both subjects. especially mental arythmics become important when doing the IR. But these things can be trained and have not much to do with intelligence.
the courses at the good schools are quite expensive. you can contact them and ask for a pricelist
damn me being so crap at maths! really want to be a pilot, but i dont think i can get the grades :(, physics makes sense to me, but i just never get the maths side right, when training/being a pilot are the calculations tricky? or are there just lots of them?
You don't need high-level maths. English and basic maths is all you need. All of the calculations needed in pilotage are silly rules of thumbs, fractions and ratio rules. The worst you might get is one little sine or cosine in navigation. So, school success is not really related to an ability to become a pilot. If you have the will and are commited to pass the requirements, no math or physics can stop you. I should know. I'm on my way there. Good luck. :)
I think it is a very good school that offers professional training.
You will have to do all your flying in Arizona apart from the IR if you are with OAA. They have stopped flying in the UK because of the busy airspace and the weather.
Yes they can. But you need to do some very extensive tests before they allow you to do so. There are very different rules between differet countries. generally the europeans tend to be rather strict whilst the US is a lot more relaxed when it comes to glasses or contacts
Depends on the country you are in. I believe in the US it is fine. In Europe they are slowly allowing it but be carefull, some airlines will not take people that have had eye surgery. Get all the info first before you do anything. You might not need it to fly
Waouh!!! I'm so happy for you!!! CONGRATULATION!!! I want also be a pilot later and I know that the way will be difficult but I will success!!! I began to learn the theoretic and the practice for PPL license last year and I will have my exams in January!!! I'm only 16 and I live in Switzerland!!!!
Thats a great accomplishment Congratulations. I Myself would like to become an airline pilot..i wish to go to Embry riddle in Daytona Beach in the Future Im currently a 10th Grader and im 15
Amazing there goes another pilot in our shared skies i wish u happy flights and i have always loved ur videos. i am 13 and i hope to become an airline piolot just like you...
Actually it is a spin. The instructor puts the aircraft into a spin and you then have to recover. Something they do in Canada, but not in the UK...sadly. It was a good lesson I thought.
I WISH I WAS U!!!!! WAS IT HARD WORKING YOUR WAY TO BEING A PILOT

In what country do you live? In the US they have no limit on that and also in Europe they have recently changed all the rules. I believe it is now something like +/- 8 or something. If you are in Europe just call you aviation authorities and ask them. I have glasses too and the CAA was very nice about it all. They checked my eyes and told me I was good to fly.
fsclips 2 years ago
I live on Brasil
I will Check again maybe in another School! XDD
I already got the Ranking of Commercial Pilot on Flight Simulator 2004
And If i can't Fly... i will Fly RC models them!

So, you took the modular course?
Gamestar11 2 years ago
Yup! I already had 150 hrs before I started at Oxford, so integrated wouldn't have made any sense.
fsclips 2 years ago
Congratulations on graduating from OAA! It's good to see you have fulfilled the dream.
I'm planning to do my flight training with Oxford in a couple of years. Also thanks for producing all your fsclips videos over the years, good luck in your career & looking forward to your next project!

I envy you massively. I always wanted to be an airline pilot since I was a young boy but I didn't get the GSCEs I needed at school. My Maths is awful and I had to let go of the dream. Well done.

Do you have to be really smart to get trained at oxford like what are the requirments if u do your school in canada lets say :D 'cause i got some problems with math and phyisics are they easy in aviation or hard:D ..is the course expensieve? thnks:D
canadianuno1 2 years ago
unfortunately maths and physisc are huge in aviation. durimg the groundschool you will have to use a lot of both subjects. especially mental arythmics become important when doing the IR. But these things can be trained and have not much to do with intelligence.
the courses at the good schools are quite expensive. you can contact them and ask for a pricelist

congratulations i am next!!
bandosbandos 2 years ago
damn me being so crap at maths! really want to be a pilot, but i dont think i can get the grades :(, physics makes sense to me, but i just never get the maths side right, when training/being a pilot are the calculations tricky? or are there just lots of them?
CurlyBlakey 2 years ago
You don't need high-level maths. English and basic maths is all you need. All of the calculations needed in pilotage are silly rules of thumbs, fractions and ratio rules. The worst you might get is one little sine or cosine in navigation. So, school success is not really related to an ability to become a pilot. If you have the will and are commited to pass the requirements, no math or physics can stop you. I should know. I'm on my way there. Good luck. :)
CommanderDenton 2 years ago
thanks, and good luck to you in your career!!
CurlyBlakey 2 years ago
Hi there...agreed with the above. I am useless at maths. If I can pass through the JAA ATPL exams, then so can you!
fsclips 2 years ago
@fsclips lol, cheers
CurlyBlakey 2 years ago
really nice!
I want to become a commercial airline pilot later on also at Oxford aviation academy. How did you liked it?
btw, did you do all your flying at Oxford itself or also in Arizona?
daan11111 2 years ago
I think it is a very good school that offers professional training.
You will have to do all your flying in Arizona apart from the IR if you are with OAA. They have stopped flying in the UK because of the busy airspace and the weather.
fsclips 2 years ago
good on ya mate, maybe that''l be me some day
jeffhardylysia 2 years ago
Congrats! So pilots CAN wear glasses? Because I wear glasses and thought people who do wear them are more of a liability as a pilot?
airplanefreak27 2 years ago
Yes they can. But you need to do some very extensive tests before they allow you to do so. There are very different rules between differet countries. generally the europeans tend to be rather strict whilst the US is a lot more relaxed when it comes to glasses or contacts
fsclips 2 years ago
if you have lazer eye surgery, will it be ok?
thedefiantrebel 2 years ago
Depends on the country you are in. I believe in the US it is fine. In Europe they are slowly allowing it but be carefull, some airlines will not take people that have had eye surgery. Get all the info first before you do anything. You might not need it to fly
fsclips 2 years ago
ok- thanks:)

Congratulations! It's my dream to become a pilot, but I can't.
Was that last snippet a video of you trying to recover out of a stall?
scaremenga 2 years ago
Actually it is a spin. The instructor puts the aircraft into a spin and you then have to recover. Something they do in Canada, but not in the UK...sadly. It was a good lesson I thought.
