  • I've wanted to properly mix this song(studio version) with Assassin's Creed footage for so long now..It would match up so well...anyone agree?

  • This Record was in `81 my first R U S H contact... it was (is) fantastic

  • Tucson AZ?? no shit, fuckn badass man!!

  • @74jailbreaker I went to U of A 86 - 90. Saw a TON of good shows: Dire Straits, Robert Plant, The Cult, Billy Idol, Tom Petty, etc. Bands will start their tour in Tucson, then Phoenix - to work out the kinks in their shows before heading to LA.

  • Best three piece rock bandf of all times for sure

  • the sonic guitar quality here never quite returned to this day...

  • I am gonna guess that some YOUTUBER... couldn't STAND IT, and HAD~ to push the Dislike Button... MORONS !!!

RUSH IS THE BEST ... You know what to do , with the....REST !!

  • If Rush has all of these soundboards, I wonder if they have one of The Fountain of Lamneth, I know it's been played but no bootlegs exist :(

  • I think there is one scheming demon dressed in kingly guise voting for gods sake!

  • classic.......love it....love it.........

  • Best Rush song ever.

  • These guys rock. I saw them twice in the 70's and they still put out high voltage rock. Ears ringing next day, beautiful. Buffalo Auditorium, the best. I love these guys...

  • I wish they would start playing this song again. That and Passage to Bangkok. I wonder if you could get them to play it if everybody in the stadium cheered for it. Definitely worth trying

  • People think Tom Sawyer is better than this? I don't understand... Tom Sawyer is good but it doesn't compare to this song. Definitely one of Rush's best short songs

  • one person is completely deaf

  • Love it.

  • This band is like Boston and all the other great greats They have CHEMISTRY!! Long live "Closer to the Heart", "Tom Sawyer" and all the others...

  • I heard a story from a Rush fan who lived in Tucson. The last time Rush played a show in Tucson, someone in the audience threw a bottle that hit Geddy. After this incident Geddy said that Rush would never play another show in Tucson. Can anyone confirm this Tucson bottle throwing incident?

  • The studio version of this after listening to the other songs and feeling the story unfold as R U S H intends it has to be experienced before trying to appreciate it live.

  • WOW

  • very nice, thanks for posting!! can't wait to see R U S H in april in nashville tn, moving pictures all the way, yeah!!!! :)

  • if your a certain RUSH person,i'll say..... this shit is a time machine......2112 will always be my favorite album...not a week goes by without some rush.caress of steel -permanent waves.....is the best RUSH........................

  • Being a "youngster" living in Tucson, I'm kinda sad that they won't be coming here on the Time Machine Tour. I would have loved to be there, but I was some 10-20 years late :( My father saw them here -- TWICE!

  • @johnny wr Yes would open for Rush.Rush has much more expansive catalog of music.Anyway why would Rush even need to take anyone on tour with them? They dont cuz they dont need to.Its just a waste of time.Anybody going to see Rush wants only to see them.Thanx not pickin a fight.Just saying.

  • R U S H (always use spaces between the letters, it looks cooler)

  • They really need to bring this one back on to their setlists. i'm crossing my fingers for it to crop up in future Rush tours.

  • @crocodilewerewolf They looked into it for the Snakes and Arrows tour but Geddy said he couldn't sing it anymore. Too frickin high pitched for him now. And it is one of his highest pitched songs.

  • i really think/believe Lifeson should be made to go back and re-record every Rush album since 1981 on his 335.

hurts me to say, (i'm a Strat guy), but, damn...

  • Geddy said in an interview that they always bring back a few old school songs for the fans on tour, and they started to rehearse this one for the Snakes and Arrows tour, but he said it just didn't feel right so they scrapped it for something else. They might bring it back again in the future, who knows. The hardest thing for these old songs is that Geddy can't scream like he used to, but he manages sometimes. They brought back Circumstances, after all, and I think they lowered the tone a bit.

  • Is there a live version of Cinderella Man? I can't find one anywhere

  • @Vince1961 there is a live version on the Different Stages boxset released officially and they closed most of their 1977 shows with it so there are probably a dozen bootlegs with it aswell

  • @pinkfloydrule27 Where can I get this bootleg?

  • I wish YES asked Rush to support them on their Tormato tour, at least it would have been interesting and Rush would have have gotten so much more exposure.

  • Nice!!! Rush is the band!!

  • awesome, geddy on keys. i remember this live, great tune. what are these lyrics about? i can't figure it out.

  • @tomitstube How we have moved away from the old to the new and how its not always better "we turn our gaze from castles in the distance, eyes cast down on the past of leat resistance"

  • these guys are are a gift from the music gods!!

  • That's so cool! I saw them at the New York Palladium in 1977. I sat so close, 7th row! I remember it well.

  • What an awesome recording!!! I have seen them 8 times starting with permanent waves, I wish I could have seen this though, the raw energy is amazing.

  • they need to bring this song back into their performances.

  • "Kings" refers to Their Highnesses Themselves, obviously? Tho' not, obviously, their farewell tour.... YAY

  • Awesome! UFO was the opening act for this leg of the tour, pretty amazing! Quite a double bill

  • 2:07 - Epic prog moment.

  • Saw them on this tour, their first headlining tour 1977 at the old 'Paramount' in Portland Oregon. Still my favorite show and album. Saw the 'Time machine Tour' last week. They are at the top of their game.Still the greatest band on the planet!!!!

  • Wow. That's actually great audio. I wonder if Rush would consider releasing that on an official DVD or something?

  • @michaelggood it's recorded off the soundboard so it was probably for radio broadcast, so they will have it in their archive somewhere whether they'll release it we shall have to wait and see, but i wouldnt hold your breath there are dozens of these soundboards not just from Rush that never see the light of day

  • @pinkfloydrule27 How would it even see in the first place?

  • The beginning of this song is very medieval...love it!!

  • Wow, great recording! Was this at TCC or Mchale? I saw them twice at TCC for the Grace Under Pressure tour and Power Windows. Best band in the world- new single Caravan is AWESOME! I am a diehard Rush fan and Farewell To Kings is my fave hands down!

  • Its amazing that recordings such as this have been hiding in the vaults all this time. Thanks for posting !

  • used to listen to this on 8 track at my dads makshift bar in the back of the house in 1982...or some year around there....wow no midtrack change

  • Wow, that breakdown during the solo section was great! Wonder why they didn't put this version on the Different Stages release? Best guitar solo I've heard on this tune played live.

    -j

  • Fans HOPE rasculinityzy wabbit again notso nutso

  • to deem officially cool lol is like telling amerians to be intrensically socialists, cities full of hatred ...... happy 2010 girls

  • This is the very 1st Rush song I ever heard. I was in grade 9 and Rush was playing live on the Juno awards. I was a big fan of BTO until I watched Rush play this song. It has been a Love affair that has lasted 33 years.

  • No one else plays like Alex. His solos transport me to places I just never get to when listening to other guitarists.

Take this solo for example and those from songs such as Freewill, Limelight, Chemistry, The Trees, The Analogue Kid, YYZ, and Natural Science to name but a few. Who else plays like this?

Alex is sometimes weird and zany, sometimes daft, sometimes gentle, sometimes fiery, yet always artisitc and always musical.

A true artisan; Alex takes the biscuit as far as I'm concerned.

  • i get to sing this in a school of rock rush show! my absolute favorite!

  • nice one !!

  • the best rock trio so far .

  • I've been listening to Rush for 30 years, and seen them almost 100 times. Every single time I put on an album, I hear something new in at least one song. It could be one note, one chord, a flam or grace note, but it's incredible that it never fails!

    Their musical genius is indescribable.

  • I know. I am in the same situation. Only I have only seen them 99 times. Actually, haven't seen them since 1986. Just didn't like their music from 1986-present. But that's what's so great about them. They are still my best band because you always hear something different everytime you hear them. Many say they are boring because they play live the same they play in studio. Obviously, like you they don't realize how improv they really are. Great Comment.

  • @gosj3964 so far? more like ever

  • @floresrh2000 I can't predict the future brother. Noboby can.

  • I agree, this song is one for the ages.

  • How cool to have this, I defnitly saw the shirts from this show in the halls of Sabino High, but didn't catch 'em 'til Moving Pictures & Signals. 2nd fave !

    (after "Circumstances")

  • Musicians musicians? You mean musicians GODS!!

  • Or GODS Musicians. Yeah, I like that!! When they go to heaven GOD will have them play all day and all night. They have enough material. HAHAHA

  • This is a piece of history of progressive rock history that needs to be saved. Impressive version of my favorite Rush song!

  • A masterclass in bass, drums & lead - take a listen to accuracy of Geddy Lee and Neil Peart on the drum & bass break halfway through - no wonder they are musicians musicians.

  • It's actually spelled TUCSON bu thats a common mistake. Great fuckin tune!

  • yeh i realised efew months ago i just keep forgetting to change it but thanks for the reminder i'll bother this time!!!

  • Forgot to add that Geddy lost some of his favorite keyboards in a rain out gig sure do miss em!! like you Gary

  • ahhhh ...its so cool,so cool to hear Geddys' old school synth again!!! A MAJOR Rush SWEET TREAT

Thanks so much Again to all of you who spread this incredibly message from my favorite of all time for over 30 yrs, Sorry just cant believe its been SOOO long and still addore them like I just heard em yesterday, Headphones and RUSH, Sweet memories flashing very quickly by

  • ..reminding me, and giving me a reason why

  • that was musical medicine!

    thx for posting

  • hey, ive been looking everywhere for this bootleg, all of the torrents have no seeders and all the megaupload links dont work. do you think you could put a download link in the description?

  • can someone tell me how to download this tour?

  • I remember when I was a kid watching the Juno Awards and they showed a clip of "A Farewell to Kings". Needless to say the Aerosmith albums got less rotation time after that. Rush became my favorite band largely based on that performance-they were completely different than anything I had ever seen.

  • Not to mention that Aerosmith treated Rush like SHIT when they toured with them. Just like any Heroin filled assholes would.

  • I still remember seeing this tour in 77 - fantastic!

  • damn Alex looked funny

  • Awesome

  • Interesting what everyone's saying about playing more old stuff next time. I doubt it. The S & A was billed as the anniversary of Farewell to Kings (even had tshirts saying the same) yet played nothing of note from that album.

Agreed this is arguably the greatest cult classic by rush (doesn't make it on best ofs and doesn't get played live) yet everyone loves it.

  • well there working on a new album this autumn so they should be on tour the the anniversary of permanent waves maybe that will make a more "old school" setlist

  • really holy shit i didnt know that

  • Thank you!!!

  • @pinkfloydrule27 well, as you probably know by now, It's the Moving Pictures tour. lol

  • Great stuff thanks

  • First bootleg ive heard of this song.. Great!! Ty

  • A lyrical masterpiece. WTG Neil.

  • is it just me, or did Geddy's keyboards come in in mid phrase? lol

  • Yeah sounds like something was wrong.

  • Thanks alot for posting this. The 'Different Stages' version of this song is actually THE song that got me into Rush. I have this whole album right now, courtesy of Megaupload, and it is quite the album. I agree with earlier posts, they should bring back songs like this one. Imagine hearing this and Cinderella Man, parts of the Cygnus Books at a show, even In the End, Lakeside Park, or Anthem...I think I'd faint.

  • the roll the bones tour proved that ged can still sing anthem and i think it should always be an opener for them and hemispheres is definitely a must do its one of their greatest and of course la villa shud never be dropped and id love to see the WHOLE of xanadu

  • lol Yeah, I would too:) I was reading a Lifeson interview, and he said "The Camera Eye" and "A Farewell to Kings" were final cuts from the "S&A" setlist, so I'm guessing we should see those next tour.

  • where did you read that?

  • i can't remember, but i'll look for that interview, which shouldn't be to too hard too find, and i'll get back to you on that.

  • What? My downloads are cd quality. I had to use a file downloading site for this album, I looked everywhere. If you could tell me what store in southwestern ontario carries Different Stages then please let me know. I have bought almost every Rush album from 1974-present on vinyl and CD and show them full support. I'm a 19 year old guitar player who NEEDED to hear that whole album, but had no other way of retrieving it. I am not missing out, I am enlightened. Hope that's clear.

  • ...store in southwestern ontario that carries 'Different Stages', and in this case 'A Desert Passage'***

  • hey pinkfloydrule,

where did u find this bootleg album and where could i fond it on the internet (if thats where u found it)

    thanx a lot

  • It would be awesome if they played this live again.

  • i hope they do they havn't played the 70s stuff in a long time and on the last tour they bought back mission(URGH) i think caress of steel and farewell to kings are both albums that they should go back and play some of next tour

  • I read somewhere in an interview that The Camera Eye and Farewell to kings were cut from this set list.

And it said next tour less Moving Pics & PwrWindows and more old stuff

  • hope thats right moving pics and power windows are good albums but hemispheres and 2112 should find more songs in the setlist

  • I love their 80s stuff but I have to agree, their 70s stuff is the best in my opinion. Mission though, that's a good song.

  • They could play it, but they would have to lower the key. Geddy cannot sing anywhere near this high. They had to lower for Circumstances last tour.

  • I've been trying to find a live version of this song forever! Thank you so much! Any chance of posting the whole concert?

  • sure ok im quite busy at the moment though so ill upload it efew songs at a time if thats ok
