Do you maybe know how to resize w95.img disk space, so I could put there some application through WinImage? Right now there's only 100mb of free disc space (another 150 is reserved for Windows). I want to expand it to etc 2GB. Could you help me?
@jason24568 Indeed it is very slow and very unreliable. If you want to run games on a virtual machine you're better off using VMware player which even supports 3D now.
@strongboy98 The VOGONS (message board) thread where the link was posted has been closes/removed due to the fact that Windows95 on DOSBox was too buggy. Even on the 'more experimental' DOSBox code branch. Mind you when I did this 2 years ago it was very very buggy and unstable.
Sound on Windows95 could be achieved, networking was not possible.
If you want to use Windows95 you're better off installing it on VirtualBox or VMPlayer for now as these do offer more compatibility and stability.
DOSBox is an open source developed software and is freeware and it should be virus free. Download it from it's own website and you should be problem free.
Networking is not supported (no ethernet) you can actually use the MS-DOS networking options over the COM ports if you wanted to. You do need to boot from a real MS-DOS install though. Which is very easily achieved.
Sound is supported.
Just google dosbox and you'll find all the information you need.
Well you can install MS-DOS 5.0 or MS-DOS 6.0 on DOSBox but when you install Windows95 you do need proper emulation of more than a VGA adapter with some VESA modes (3.0) and a soundblaster compatible sound card.
Windows95 required a compatible SVGA graphics card and compatible sound card. Drivers access the hardware which needs to be present. DOSBox emulates a mean DOS machine but presenting Windows compatible hardware that the drivers can communicate with is more complicated. Like a true VM.
well i can install windows 95 in dosbox, that is no problem, but windows 95 requires to boot by itself, so i can't run it when i start the dosbox ms dos unfortunately. :-(
Now, when I tried to boot a Windows 95 Boot Disk, it worked, BUT I wanted to use the MOUNT command and it freezes the Virtual Machine when I try to run that.
Have you tried using DOSBOX commands in Windows 95?
The Vogons forum has all the information you need. I did this quite a while ago. The experience is buggy and very crash-prone and not really worth it for actual use. That is with the DOSBox I tried it a year ago with.
I did need to use a special build of DOSBox as the regular DOSBox build was lacking some specific support.
The Windows 95 bootsector needs to be present to be able to boot into Windows95 so you do need to use an image.
Yep, scrolling Windows are possible. But actually you are very observant as this is one of the first betas after Windows95 before Windows98 was released. They took this feature out later on!
I'm interested in using this on the Windows Mobile version of DosBox! V. 0.72 is available for it now. I think my Palm Treo 700wx's 312MHz processor, Intel 2700G graphics coprocessor and 128MB of memory would allow me to play those many great old games that are in between too demanding for DOS and too demanding for a mobile phone.

Here's an idea: run DosBox on Windows 95 that runs on DosBox.
For extra hardcore bonus points: run Windows 95 on DosBox that runs on Windows 95 that runs on DosBox.
