Of the total 15 trillion dollar national debt approximately 8 trillion is owed to the social security trust fund. If necessary in the event of conflict US debts to China would be erased or all foreign debt could be monetized either completely or partially as with QE I&II. We have a mutual defence treaty with the Philippines and it is in our interest to live up to it.

Look up Territorial disputes in the South China Sea. But it is only 3 years of oil for China in the whole area, and both sides know it is not worth the trade relations, which is ~$350 billion in exports from China. Then, if there was a war China loses all $1.4T in US debt as we would not pay them a cent of it.

The US can always pay back it's debts as long as all in debts are in US currency, as we control the currency, we can literally print our way out of any debt. But then that misses the point that China is as dependent on the US as the US is on China, as you would see a 10-30% drop in China's employment and GDP if the US failed, and then China would revolt.
