""People always want to know where you come from and where the paintings started, but one should actually find the meaning of where it ended not necessarily where it started or anywhere between the beginning and the end there lies the shadow..."
Yes, she is Doing the same painting over and over. Moving colors around differently, does not mean Creativity. The continual use of the Human Portrait is about our inability to go beyond Self Importance. A Creative artist is one who paints the UNKNOWN.
Doing the same thing more than once isn't for the sake of repetition, it's for refinement and better understanding of an idea. It also helps convey the concept to an audience through cohesion. Yes, she could have done it just once. And no, I don't really think she's that great, either.
@xwaystranger how do you paint the unknown? what you mean, is an artist should imply the unkown, and they can certainly do that with the figure.... you're an idiot
She's the greatest depicter of the human form since Egon Schiele. Must return to Amsterdam to see some originals of her work + perhaps stalk her for ideas!
@allaboutdmagic she is wonderfully great at depicting the human figure but i dont think she is the best. in my opinion, lucian freud has her beat. egon and marlene do however share a great expressionistic quality. maybe its because they both approach painting with a light touch
How i love this woman! and people think that damien hirst is an artist! MARLENE is a true artist, she has a vision, a passion for what she does, and i dont think she cares that much about money! Just looved her accent, so cute!
She was my teacher in the school of arts.Marlene was an amazing, lovely woman and now still the same example of integrity as 25 years ago, when she wasn't so famous as this days....exceptional these days!
Love Love Love.

I totally agree! I have seen many of her works and love the quickness of her strokes. So gestural.
