  • What are the spikes on top and bottom of the wings at 14 seconds? Airbrakes?

  • @tubernation1 Yes.

  • There are still a Canberra flying in the UK, Air Atlantique have one. Plus there are 2 in the USA still flying, employed for high altitude test work because nothing else can do the job.

  • Whilst the US B57s started off life as Canberras, they are rather heavily modified now, most obviously wing extensions and more powerful engines.

We never replaced the Canberra because faster, sexier things have always been a higher priority.

  • i was there!!!!!!

  • she didn't need to be retired they still had spares from the 50's and it wasn't costing anything to keep them on just the man hours and fuel wich is showing how reliable she is 57 years on she got the job done it's not like it's impossible to update her systems the americans still got there b-52's so why did the raf let her go

  • yeah it was a shame to see it go. now the RAF rely upon sattelites when they could have had a proven and tested method of reconaisence

  • WE can't let a lovely old aircraft like the canberra die let's hope someone keeps one flying in britain like the Vulcan.

  • there is a training one they still keep at boscombe down and a few flying in peru ( i think)
