  • Fuckin love this raw version of this song, the bass is fucking awesome!

  • Jonny Greenwood playing bass?!? OMG!!!! PANIC!!!!

  • Sorry thom! Must fast forward to awesome jam/improvisation of this amazing song!

  • I think a lot of their songs start out raw and edgy and then they sand off the edges and get a very polished masterpiece. Just look at Reckoner.

  • @BigMexico993 What you said does not apply to Reckoner. 'Reckoner' on IR is a completely different song than 'Reckoner' in 2001. In case you didn't know, that song from 2001 was released as an entirely new single in 2009.

  • It always surprises me how clear Thoms voice it even though he thrashes it about as if he's covered in flies.

    I guess that's just Thom.

And Jonny is such a badass, stealing his big brothers bass and using it to have a jam sesh.

  • ha ha there there underwater - this is sooooo wonderful

  • thom looks like Mr.Bean when he says yesterday hahahah

  • What the fu** has happened to Thom's voice??!

    Jus kidding ;)

  • Jonny needs to become my music teacher

  • Bass part is EPIC

  • Jonny is on bass while colin is grabbing something to eat for the guys "hurry lets do a webcast before colin gets back! Phil: Why Thom?. Thom: For the lulz :)"

  • the end of this version sounds so much like something that would have been from can's "tago mago".

  • funny you mention that, because the drums on the final version are definitely an homage to can. same with "go slowly" off of in rainbows. not so much in the studio version, but the live version definitely is an homage to "thief." figures radiohead loves can, right?

  • Radiohead do it Evolucion

    who more can do this?

    nobody!

  • Comment removed

  • I put this on sometimes just to listen to the alternate verse.

  • the old version is pretty nice not better than the album recording but still nice

  • jonny plays everything. mercenary of instruments he is!

  • i friggin love this version personally

  • Jonny playing the bass... thas cool

  • Jonny : "We did a bad version of it on a webcast once..."

where can i find that bad version

cause what i hear is great

  • Wow, they definitely improved with the final version of this song, didn't they.

I guess they must have been high off their shit when they played this.

  • From what I gather out of some interviews I've seen, I'm pretty sure none of the members of Radiohead do any kind of drugs.

  • Aren't they stoned during this video?

  • No; Thom is just a silly, silly man. (:

  • Dude, he is high out of his mind, no doubt about it.

  • @MolesAsses yeah, jonny said radiohead's drug of choice is aspirin ha. and i remember thom saying once that they all experimented with drugs and were not impressed with the results. i'm pretty sure ed smokes weed though.

  • i'd love to be high with radiohead's gear.

  • is it that bad?

cause i like this version...(but of course i prefer the album one)

  • that was cool

  • they are "high" for sure

  • Looks more like Jonny than Phil on bass...

  • Colin (Jonny's Brother) is the bassist, but I know what you are talking about; It really does look more like Jonny on bass

  • i think that's quite obvious but it's Jonny on the bass in this video.

  • Can someone show me the interview that's being spoken about in the video info?

  • It is on the most incredible lying mouth.

  • Hahaha, ok.

  • it just shows radiohead's ability to fill out the skeleton of a song this version sounds great b/c its raw

  • WOW!!! I think its very encouraging to other musicians to see that radiohead sucks sometimes as well.

  • totally agree!!!---

  • lol i think that was just a recording of them practicing...it looks like it at least

  • @vicprobey haha well everyone has to start somewhere with songs. I think sometimes they try many directions for songs, some they don't. But yeah, this is definitely a really fun bad jam together haha.

  • in the middle it sounds alittle bit like modest mouses jam parts of there tracks. And did he say some microsoft guy bought him like a monkey was this like a gift. correct me if i wrong what does this dude like work at a desk all day and listen radiohead in his free time and was like this man is genius let me just give him a monkey. awe so good i want a monkey. haha

  • he said he got a russian egg from some big fish in microsoft

  • @theshakedownstreet

And got some free petrol using his celebrity status!!

  • Mhhh...

  • this is great - i love how it is so raw and dodgy. shows how a song can go from one idea and turn into something else entirely. the final cut of "there, there" is one of my favorite radiohead songs, and i love it live.

  • @mondaybox

    me too <3

  • haha jonny looks so out of place.

  • is Jonny playing the bass?

    *giggle*

  • Free gas 'cause you're famous is a perk

  • I thought that Thom thought that "How To Disappear Completely" was his favorite of their songs. (I don't like the song; my favorites are Talk Show Host and There There)

But I'm glad to hear that Thom likes There There.

  • I wonder if the dude behind the camera knew that there was a drummer playing as well...

  • lol

  • amazing. :s

  • I remember that webcast!!!

It was before KID A. I have a super poor quality mp3 of this song..

but this video cuts around 2 minutes of the band playing these last seconds over and over again...

I love so much this unfinished version that I was a little bit disappointed with the final version, the first time that I've heard it at Benicassim Festival =)

  • lol soooo different. does seem like its from the bends.

  • Still amazing but the final version is just amazing. One of the greatest pieces of music ever written. And live, its simply breathtaking...

  • i have this version on mp3, message me if you want it!

  • can you send it to me please

  • pssst.

    *nudge nudge*

  • it's been months but if you could send it to me I'd be so grateful! mktrees at gmail?

  • Final for the win.

..though it was nice to hear this.

  • Is there anywhere i can get this in mp3 format??? i want it badly

  • they shouldve released this

  • this sounds great, really bendsy. the studio version blows it away but i don't mind this.

  • bendsy is a good word. I was thinking of the same thing, but couldn't put it into a word. Good job there, wesside333.

  • OMG this is good

  • It definitely would have required some polishing but it has a nice Bends-era throwback feel to it. The riffs fill in for the tribal drumming quite well, plus it could have offered some potential for extended improv for live performances. Ah well, the finished version is killer too.

  • I do not like this version at all. I like the album version loads, probably one of my 5 favourite RH songs. The demo version of There There was good too. No better or worse than the album version. Different, is all.

  • How the heck do humans come up with such good music? How the hell did they come up with the final version of There There? Damn it!

  • @Radiohead420DJ here's how i think it happenes:

    1. they just don't stop playing versions of the songs until it has a groove. many bands just play although you can't bang your head to it.

    2. they listen to a lot of unique and rare music, so they come up with rare atmospheres. most bands listen to pearl jam, nirvana, and other very popular bands - they can't play anything new.

    3. they're not please with just a good song. when they're done with the song - they "ruin" it - jonny's job basically.

  • c'mon, this is just a fumble about "writing session", you can really tell how much thought went into the final arrangement, it takes a long long time to come up with a definitive version of a song. Esp with their ridiclously high production values!

  • This version reminds me more of something from the Bends than from Hail to the Thief. Just my opinion.

  • absolutly correct, it's sound like my iron lung or one of the bends track, i was just thinking that when see your comment

  • this is nice, but studio version is sooo better!

  • this version of there there is terrible the one on HTTT is a million time better im so glad that they put that one on the album

  • "i try to

    but i could never win

    AN IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION

    THAT I COULD NEVER WIN"

I miss those lines in the album release!

  • the old version is a million times better than what was on HTTT

  • I really like this old version. And wow!!! Fucking Jonny is playing his brother's fucking bass! How fucking cool is this? I love Radiohead! Long live Radiohead!

  • wow, Jonny plays bass.. cool

  • Someone might translate the interview of thom yorke to spanish, we are many persons that we do not know Englishman completely

    please

  • where can i download this??

anyone have links to a torrent please send

  • i'd kill to see radiohead just completely jam out all their songs like this at a show.

  • yeah nice version

  • they are cool for do this

  • this sounds much better than the crappy quality one i heard years ago. studio version still trumps this but this is a nice jam :)

  • lol. Big white telecaster. heh Anyway, he's playing Collin's Pbass.

  • its ok...i like the album one though...huge change

  • wow......they really turned that one around nice though

  • Crazy vid! Haha!

  • It sounds like an old song,

    but is sooooo cool.

P.S: Is Johnny playing bass ???????? Jesus!!!

  • if you learn guitar or piano, you can play almost anything...but that has nothing to do with jonny greenwood. he's at chuck norris status

  • this sounds like The Bends

  • WOW,let's fight each other over what Johnny's playing. grow up you moron's.

  • Jonny's bassline almost makes the song sound disco-y. Such a hugely sound/mood from the version that made it on record.

  • i love when he throws down the "someone on your shoulder" riff on the bass

  • Yeah, a big white telecaster with 4 strings an octave lower than usual - in the shape of a P bass.

  • porra, parece Los Hermanos

  • common its pretty cool, i mean to hear such a jam of such a good song is something really pleasant and special, these short "jams" (gems =) was one the best part of The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth of All Time

  • This is definitely a jam cause that looks like jonny on the bass

  • no its a telecaster guitar

  • no thats very much a fender bass

  • I rewatched it and you're right - it's a bass.

    Sorry buddy.

  • I'm pretty sure this was just a jam session. There's no way something like this would've fit in with what they were doing at the time.

  • superb.

  • wow, thats really bad, amazing how they transformed it, it's a beautiful song on the released version. thom was funny.
