From Dick Morris's article 'Mike Huckabee is a Fiscal Conservative':
A recent column by Bob Novak excoriated Huckabee for a "47 percent increase in state tax burden." But during Huckabee's years in office, total state tax burden — all 50 states combined — rose by twice as much: 98 percent, increasing from $743 billion in 1993 to $1.47 trillion in 2005.
In Arkansas, the income tax when he took office was 1 percent for the poorest taxpayers and 7 percent for the richest, exactly where it stood when he left the statehouse 11 years later. But, in the interim, he doubled the standard deduction and the child care credit, repealed capital gains taxes for home sales, lowered the capital gains rate, expanded the homestead exemption and set up tax-free savings accounts for medical care and college tuition.
Most impressively, when he had to pass an income tax surcharge amid the drop in revenues after Sept. 11, 2001, he repealed it three years later when he didn't need it any longer.
He raised the sales tax one cent in 11 years and did that only after the courts ordered him to do so. (He also got voter approval for a one-eighth-of-one-cent hike for parks and recreation.)
I'm completely against Huckabee because I just do not trust him or his intentions even 1%... but this video is so biased. Why isn't it showing Huckabee's response... Now that I've typed that, I think I know why. Probably because he always turns around the blame or dances around the subject. He's really good at it, too! He'll make a great Bush number 3... He gives Dana Perrino a run for her corporate money!
regardless of who paid for it. Huckabee did raise taxes, supported illegal aliens in Arkansas, and fought to release a convicted rapist who killed and raped again. Why? Because of Partisan politics. Dr. Can't say No to Taxes.

It's a shame when what some one says, and what they have done in the past has no bearing on their character. How great would it be if Huckabee actually did the things that he claims to be for. His past voting record is the only measure of his character. To blindly follow is not who you should be. George Bush was a christian too, and the christian right stood by him. Huckabee is a liar, and a serpent, don't listen to the media, learn for yourself.
If what someone said today and what they'd done in the past had any bearing on their character... "Dr. No" would be the obvious front-runner. We'll see if these POLL statistics are really correct in a couple of months. A few months ago, when I was an undecided voter, his track record is what impressed me! America needs to return to a true Republic. Not a socialist democracy! :)
Doesn't matter how many times he raised or lowered taxes... bottom line, when Huckabee left office, taxes were higher, government was bigger, and local control was non-existent.
Mike Huckabee believes in big taxes, big spending, big government, and top-down mandates.
Is that because Huckabee's proclivity for tax-increases make it hard to defend his record? Or are his defenders merely rationalizing anything he did in office?
The club for growth is just saying a load of political bull. And editing out his responses shows a lack of class and a lack of logic behind their attacks.
If anyone wants to see the other side of the story, check out the two videos I have uploaded, especially the Wolf Blitzer one.
They are not complaints. They are facts. No matter what he says, he increased taxes, I'm sure you would be satisfied with a good answer, but is a conservative republican no answer is a good answer for raising taxes, the money is already there, involved in other programs.
Clinton also, as well as Bush. Does this make them the same? Huckabee and his record are as liberal as you can get. I'm glad to say that the candidate I am for has a voting record that is identical to his views, and stances. A Huckabee fan can't feel that pride.
It appears the "Club for Growth" sees attacking Huckabee as a way of promoting themselves. They are evidently afraid of letting him answer their baseless charges since they never let him speak. Whoever heard of these guys before? NO ONE. This video shows exactly why and how they are distorting his record.
A good valid reason that this particular state needed it. I've read the record at Wikipedia and I do think there were some valid reasons and some mandated reasons. I think in some high tax states, he would have cut taxes more as they would be excessive.
Whether or not the reaons may or may not have perhaps possible been valid, He toots his own horn way too much about lowering taxes without addressing these other things. He tried to offset his attacks ahead of time by saying that people were going to talk about him... because he knew he had an inconsistent record! I just simply don't trust the guy.
This montage discredits the club for growth. Any thinking person sees that this is only a collection of accusations with the responses surgically removed. Had this been an honest collection it would have shown Huckabee's response and then rebutted that response. I think the club for growth needs to look into hiring folks as smart as those they are trying to convince.
First Arkansas governor to ever lower taxes! C'mon now! Yes raised them 5 times and lowered them...94 times!! This is not an opinion these are the facts pure and simple.
Here is my personal opinion: It's a weak argument to make. To attack his conservatism is frankly silly. He is honestly one of, if not the most conservative choice of the GOP front runners.
im tired of hearing ppl say they will vote for who's most electable instead of who they believe in. if u want the "most electable" then vote for hillary. some of us still believe in an America led by priciples rather than a phony stuffed suit. all the critcism huck is getting is paid for by "club for gross."
Mike Huckabee has a MUCH more conservative record on a fiscal basis than Ronald Reagan. Reagan raised taxes by 1 billion in Cali, adjust for state population growth and that works out to about 10 billion today. Reagan went on to define fiscal conservatism.
Huckabee fought tooth an nail against a legislature with a house that was made up of 89% Democrats. Only 50 % was needed to override his veto, yet he successfully cut taxes 90 times!
This is exactly how C4G works. You make broad statements that are often exaggerations. Then you never give the chance to the person you are attacking to respond. How typical C4G some day things will catch up with you. Because you want to see an America with no roads I will be supporting Mike Huckabee. Also I am proud to say C4G would call me a liberal. Outragous
club 4 growth should be called "club for impediment"
