This convinces me, it's probably best to try to learn Irish by learning to sing it (having tried myself, once, years ago) - but oh those devilish words. Thanks so much for posting this - both educational and lovely to listen to!
By the way, when we were in Cork in '95 we went to the Spailpín Fánach! - I wonder whether the pub lives up to its reputation in song?? Guess I'll have to pull out my "focloir poca" and try to work out the meaning -
Hmm, I think the only way to learn Irish must be by learning to singing it (having tried to learn a bit myself, once some years ago). But oh those rascally words. Thanks so much for posting the song and words. I'm both inspired and discouraged at the same time.

As an American I am glad to see the Gaelic language being kept alive. It is indeed enjoyable to listen to (though I don't speak it) and has a long wonderful history. It should never die out, either by force or by choice.
Gorgeous and all as the language is..try learning it. For 14 years. And still not understand a scrap of it.
