That's definitely a metal mount. No company is going to use a plastic lens mount. Research before you make stupid and ignorant comments.

i specifically mentioned the lens, not the body, the mount on the lens is all black, so i think its plastic, not that it matters on a kit lens

I've had the A100 for about 2.5 years now and its served me well - about 80k frames. Shutter button is sticky and I am seriously thinking about the A550 as my next step up. I wish that SONY had kept the 18-70 as the kit lens.

Huh? The new 18-55mm is much better lens. The old 18-70 was bad and woud suck even more on 14 MP camera. If you really want the old 18-70 kit, buy the body only and buy 18-70 from ebay for $40 (that lens isn't worth $40 though). Better buy body only and buy Sigma 17-70mm for $300. However, the new 18-55 kit lens is good (and sharp).

yes, I already have the 18-70 with my A100. I'm not saying that the 18-55 is a bad lens, just not as much useful range. Also, that was something different that Sony offered compared to Nikon and Canaon kit lens which has always been 18-55. I think the camera companies also benefit from including the 18-55 because it will force more people to buy extra lenses. I went for about 2 years with only 18-70, but now I also have 75-300 and Sigma 10-20. I think I might buy the A550 this week!

@RedroomStudios What for?! The 18-70mm lens was unbelievable crap, I got it with the A200. In Poland the A550 single lens kit costs roughly the same money as the A550 body only option. So you opt for double lens kit, get 18-50 for free and job done. Sony's 50-200mm lens isn't bad either.

I ended up buying the A550 with the 18-55. As you say the price was not much more than the body alone. I like the lens, and of course the camera!
