  • We're already enduring several epidemics, now, ... And, "the government dropped the ball" on this research beginning with Reagan in the 1980s. Private philanthropies don't necessarily "give" to whom they don't see a return in some way.

Eating fish is ok, if you can avoid the mercury and other toxins in most fish.

So, breathe deeply, eat what you can and try to enjoy the chemicals & toxins you take in & good luck, 'cause you're basically on your own

  • Flouride , vaccines and other environmental toxins introduced by man are responsible for all these nuerological diseases.

  • Does the government still put fluoride in our drinking water?!?! When are they going to stop that? Everybody knows by now that it is very bad for our health!

  • chemtrails will have a large impact on the rise of neurological disease because of the brain toxicity of the metals contained in them(including aluminum)This in addition to flouride(in water, prescription drugs)chlorine(in water)and mercury(in foods, vaccines, dental amalgams)Avoidance of these substances and regular detoxes are the only solution.Dont forget to avoid chemical sweeteners like aspartame and splenda as well.

  • fluoridated water is actually the reason for alzheimers

  • zomg.. alz's = zombies!!

  • There's only one solution to this....

    LIVE FAST, DIE YOUNG

  • Could the flouride in our water supply be one of the causes of Alzheimer's? It is a by-product of aluminum, which is known to be built-up in the brains of people who have Alzheimer's.

  • More Caffeine, lower blood pressure??

    A paradox!!!

  • caffeine doesn't permanently increase blood pressure. In fact, using caffeine to supplement exercise can lower flood pressure in the long term.

  • oh noes!

  • @jasonguyperson wrote this, 1 year ago "More Caffeine, lower blood pressure?? A paradox!!!"

It seems that way, since caffeine is a stimulant. However, it is also a diuretic. As your kidneys eliminate more water, that decreases the volume of your circulating blood. Less volume = lower BP.

Now, which force has the stronger effect . . . CNS stimulant vs. diuretic? I don't know. Physiology is a complicated mess! :-)

  • alzheimer's is so scary. one of my distant relatives died from it.

painful and frustrating for loved ones.

i empathize completely with people whose lloved ones suffer.

  • jajajaja, that's funny

  • hahahaha, much funny like american bunny

  • yay! go my gen chem teacher! go brandeis!!

  • my teacher: gen chem 2, spring '06, Brandeis.

  • i like how fast he went throught the whole thing. It was high energy.

  • People who are afflicted with the Benjamin Button disease, do not suffer from Alzheimers disease; fortunately for them.

  • Good luck

  • Gregory Petsko is pretty smart

  • Short and sweet, just the way I likes it.

  • you're horrible...elderly deserve to live too...suicide when you are healthy?? jesus

  • good health is a state of physical, mental, and social well being.

if you have alzheimers, you have very little remaining, of any of those things, it's horrific to see it tear peoples lifes apart, as you visit your dad in hospital and he doesn't recognize you.

parkinsons destroys your motor neurons in your brain and throughout your body, leaving you unable to control your limbs, and in servere cases, you cant do anything for your self.

im not sure about euphenasia, but its not really healthy.

  • On the other hand, you could do us all a favor and not grow any older.

  • You idea is not acceptable, at least I am not willing to kill my self.

But extrepolating from it, maybe what will happen is a Government mandated euthanasia rule or some kind of lottery.

I'm just speculating here, but seeing how our Goverment work it will not surprise at all.

  • Hey couldn't help notice your comment on the TED,Talk video, Gregory Petsko: The coming neurological epidemic. There is much discussion on chemicals in food and disease search some of the following "codex alimentarius" "floride" "aspertane" "groth hormones used in cattle" "GM foods" Alot of these potentaliay lethal ingredients are inforced on the food production chain by orginisations like WFO UN ect...

  • I wish there were like a "neurological & biochemic code proyect". I have DAMP, and I'm seeing it all like the matrix after reading about food sintesys and neurotransmitters... while my couch and psychiatrist are not, they just give me ritalin and "be professionals"-and I'm the one understanding the 3 axes of my problem...) there should be an investigation that relates all this dificuties translating food into health/neurological problems.

  • Did someone say extinction, thank God for that, can we accelerate it in any way.

  • This is a very interesting perspective but I fail to see how an increase in the overall population over 65 is going to somehow increase the percentage of people over 65 getting such diseases.

Ex. Say you take 1% of 100, ie 1. now increase 100 to 1000 and 1% is now 10. Yes 10 is higher than one but it's still only 1%.

  • The point is that the chance increases when you get older. More people of 85 have Alzheimer than people of 60. When there are more very old people in the population, the overall chance of people having Alzheimer increase as well. Your lifelong change of getting Alzheimer also goes up.

  • hopefully, we'll have automated transportation by then or car insurance will look ugly.

  • @firefly

Of course there's a reason. But discussing the REAL reasons governments (all of them) favor eugenics, on this page, would open up an entirely different can'o'worms.

Less people reproducing = less (genetic) "biodiversity."

There are other options beside "depleting natural resources."

Not using those options, is often a decision made by greedy, heavily-legacy-invested, old rich white men, in order to protect their financial security, without a single thought of anyone else.

  • @kitsunde

The term "darwinistic-evolution" was used to distinguish between "creationist-evolution." Just being specific.

  • this is because of the things we put in our bodies.....look at all the prescription drugs we take, the food we eat, the drinks we drink....all these things have a large amount of chemicals that are dangerous......put clean things in your body, excercise your mind by reading, critical thinking, meditate, and i doubt that it will be at the extent that was shown......

  • Actually diet does not really weigh into the risk factors. Maybe its because we live twice as long??? That was sarcasm, its because we live twice as long and there are many genetic factors like expression of Presenilin 1, 2 or 3, overexpression of lipoprotein e4 and the chromosome 21. Mental stimulation and a high level of education plus caffeine (and smoking too, oddly) are protective for Alzheimer's (but who knows, maybe Veganism too?)

    Eco-fearmongering has gotten to you.

  • And you say this why? This is going to stop genetic diseases or decrease the longevity of your life to lower the risk of getting Alzheimer's?

From the broad bullshit you are saying it's clear that you have no understanding of what you say. Your logic fails in that these things you speak of we ingest, make us sick and yet at the same time allow us to live longer than ever. Longer than people who never even had these things available to them hundreds of years ago.

  • lol you are an angry man, i forgot i was speaking with an expert. So let me ask you, just how exactly does the body break down and contract disease? And whats so hard to understand about eating unhealthy foods as opossed to eating healthy ones? Do you need me to explain it. What we put into our bodies has everything to do with health.

  • 5 stars !

  • people misinterpret eugenics?

    REALLY?

I don't see how anyone can misinterpret having their right to procreate abolished, or removed.

The only eugenics we need is darwinistic-evolution. The "undesirables" usually take themselves out of the equation at some point anyway.

Natural eugenics (ie: darwinism, aka "survival of the fittest"), are unavoidable. But the instant any "authority" figure tries to tell anyone they're not allowed to reproduce, there will be trouble.

  • I think you mean natural selection and not darwinistic-evolution (as that would suggest there's a non-darwinian evolution of some sort). The "undesirables" would be people with genetic defects that makes them unable to take care of themselves, which we as a society quite feel have an obligation to save. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but we're way past the point of natural selection as a species.

  • i politely disagree with you about natural selection. With all this new technologies going on, we're still undergoing natural selection. The riches are still living longer than the poor, do not exclude that out of the natural selection.

  • That the rich live longer than the poor isn't realy the issue here, there is nothing that says the rich persons genes is any worse than the poor persons. The issue is that if I say was born without arms and legs due to some genetic defect society would take care of me and make sure I won't simply perish, I'd even be allowed to reproduce and spread my genes. This obviously only applies to somewhat developed countries where the poorest still get food through social services or similar systems.

  • Well I'd like to see you reproduce with no arms and legs.

  • kitsunde:

"we're way past the point of natural selection as a species"

Very true, add to that the fact that natural selection only factors in on diseases that do not let an individual reproduce. We are talking about a disease that starts in the old age. Its unforeseen consequences of a longer and longer life (same thing as cancer, though environment also influences a lot).

  • I politely suggest that there's a reason why as you said ""authority" figure tries to tell anyone they're not allowed to reproduce", human population is growing with an exponential rate. within the next 100, human population is estimated to be double, we need to think of sustainability to our future generations, and other species that share this planet with us. Increase population = depleting natural resource + lost of biodiversity = extinction.

  • We need an objective, honest, fair, respects personal freedom global eugenics system. The world IQ is decreasing while it should be increasing. We will always need eugenics to move forward.

More researchers to solve problems like these.

  • i'm not sure a fair eugenics system is even possible.

  • It absolutely can. People misinterpret eugenics.

    I pm'd you

  • i havn't received the PM, it might not have gone through

  • not in my sent box, although i did compose and click send last night, it is in my sent box now ')

About different ways and options in which different status' need to take, they are different, but nearly weigh the same, for both the strong and ones with weak genetics.

  • Do a search for,

    Zeitgeist The Movie

    and

    Money As Debt

  • Zeitgeist is nothing but conspiracy lies, made by people who have too much time on their hands. The "sources" used for Zeitgeist are outdated, unreliable, non-academic, non-scholarly, speculative, and/or conspiracy-laden tones written by people who are not trained in biblical scholarship, historical Jesus studies, Egyptology, or related fields, and/or rely on other non-scholarly, outdated, pseudo-historical books, and are therefore filled with errors!

  • OK, so you are a religious person. I admire and envy you. But what of the rest of Zeitgeist?

How can the richest country the planet has ever seen, suddenly find itself in such a dire, economic and financial situation?

That's because the productive efforts of us Morlocks is being skimmed off by the Fed, owned and operated by private individual banks with no oversight or controls. THEY are directly responsible for the current, economic mess.

  • This was predicted long ago, Bernanke also mentioned this many times in his speeches.

and this is in no way 'dire'. $ is now much stronger

  • Many errors in the First third of that film, agreed. Thats not to say that there isn't also a great deal of truth to some of what is presented. The second third, the 9/11 bit, wasn't even worth watching. The final third was very interesting. Although it did have a few inaccuracies to it, it was -for the most part - very much facts....

  • KILL THE SENIORS!!!

  • Skin the seniors to make tents for the homeless

  • The solution that the New World Order has planned is a cull of the worlds population.

The creation of Aids was the first experiment, the idea being that sexually immoral people should be the first to go.

Next are the Orientals, simply because of the size of the population. A gene specific virus has been developed.

Next, goes the white middle class but they won't be killed but turned into Morlocks. Do a Wiki on The Time Machine.

Brave New World is another must see film.

  • "the sexually immoral people should be the first to go"

lol if the nwo scum would have wanted that, they should have killed themselves first.

however the neurological diseases are not planned by the nwo idiots but are the logical result of a mentaly decadent society. the tv-heads have always been the first to get alzheimers.

  • This epidemic (Alzheimer's) doesn't kill but places a tremendous burden on society. The NWO can't just round up these old people and herd them into camps to starve to death.

Baby boomers and "the useless eaters" as they call most of humanity, need to be culled. We are on an exponential curve of population growth.

They believe that they have the right to solve this problem by genocidal means.

  • we have *always* been on an exponential curve of population growth. and the growth rate has always been the same. that's what people that are bad in math do not understand. if you look at the end of any exponential function it seems as if it's suddenly growing terribly. the curve has looked exactly the same a thousand years ago.

  • Actually, ,no.

before the demographic transition, the human population was growing at a much slower exponential rate, if at all.

  • Do a search on Wikipedia for world population and see why this is wrong. In the 20th Century, life expectancy shot up and infant mortality plummeted. Hence the population growth rate changed.

  • you are right. while 1750-1800 the growth rate was 1,2 , 1950-1999 it was 2,4.

  • beneehall you are speaking paranoid delusions.

The Time Machine was a fictional book by a world renowned science fiction author.

  • Yes, and if you read the book, you will see some predictive insights into what's going on today. We are all being turned into Morlocks.

George Orwell also tried to warn us in his book, 1984.

Read a little and you may be surprised.

  • its all about the money, make drugs sell drugs meony money

  • exactly

  • It's about preventing the suffering of millions of people from these horrible diseases, and saving us all a lot of money, because if we can't cure these diseases, the care costs place a massive burden the economy. Are you saying scientists shouldn't work on curing disease because there's a risk they might be paid for it? Daft!

  • Alzheimers can be totally prevented, google Alzheimer prevention

constant learning is one method, healty diet is another one...

  • meditation and tv abstinence is another one.

  • DRINK COFFEE...GOOD News!!

  • n=the first letter of you`re "name",can`t be bothered to type anymore.YOU CUNT!!.

  • well isn`t this nice news

  • belief on evolution is based on facts, therefore it is a sustained belief (not faith).

belief on creation isn't based on any empirical proof, therefore it is faith. faith is always blind, for it requires an act of rational abnegation.

  • What kind of God are you on about?

  • well it makes sense that high blood pressure would be the single biggest risk factor for glaucoma... but he lost me when he said it was like alzheimers of the eye...

  • i love it when they talk only for 3-4 minutes.

  • a mentally ill Liberal, is a conservative.

  • better go max out your credit cards then to prove your not mentally ill. Me i like gow mine all say balance due 0$ credit limit 10,000 available credit 10000

  • what?

  • Not to sound condescending, but by then there will probably be twice as many diseases to investigate.

  • free weed...see if that fixes things :)

  • It would actually help speed things along... =[

  • duh!

  • 'Tard

  • duh!

  • Scary.

    As.

    Fuck.

    ... I hate old people.

  • they probably hate you too

  • of course they do.

they hate everyone under the age of 60

    wrinkly old fuckers

  • He forgets the progress of science and medicine which I am sure will demand cures for these decease.

  • No he isn't, he's encouraging the research for the cure.

  • sure of what? if its personal? well if it were personal we would have already had an altercation seeing as you are being extremely insulting, ad i havent been arrested in a while... so no its not personal.

  • its not personal, i dont know you, you dont know me. you are directing anger towards words written on your computer screen. to me that seems more retarded than leaving a comment on a video, or extreme paranoia only you know the answer.

  • t.agree.

  • lol. i highly recommend this thread.

oh, and also, video dude, GL

  • khan.lol!.

  • the absolute best thing you can do to protect your brain and body from ALL degenerative disease is to eat a whole foods, plant based diet ... yes, that is PREVENTATIVE and anyone in science knows this ... this guy needs to read t colin campbell's work ... xoxo

  • he probably has, and i'm sure he knows that.

he would also be fully aware however, that most people don't subscribe to the P>C theory until it's too late

  • n.how is this "personal" CUNT?.

  • yes i completely agree, i commented before actually watching the whole thing, actually after about 10 seconds, therefore i commented out of ignorance and also assumption making an ass out of not u and me, just me. my comment was retarded, i appreciate you correcting me but insults are uncalled for, but i suppose its the net therefore ppl insult others because it seems impersonal, or you could just be someone who actually enjoys insulting ppl to there face! i dont know.

  • nononono

that math assumes that the rate at which a population contracts/acquires Alzheimer's is proportional to the age of the population.

The chart should have shown documented cases of alzheimer's as a percentage of national populations. Disease rate does not necessarily have anything to do with population age.

Would it not be reasonable to assume that the population is capable of growing older because their overall health is better?

  • bah this would take too long to explain

  • Thank You for this info. Awesome Vid! -(ME)

  • LAME

  • TED I ALWAYS BETTER IN MONTEREY!

  • back at ya

  • Short snappy and to the point... and I was about to cut down on my caffeine consumption.

  • Couldn't agree more. Short presentation, and he got his point across very quickly.

  • short but sweet.

  • i love sushi, drink caffeinated drinks, am physically active, wear a helmet, and have a low natural blood pressure.

And no one in my family has had either of the diseases.

    Good genes? lol

  • LET US BREED, JUST GOTTA FIND MY HAT OK

  • eat better food, watch less tv, read more books, do more physical activities.

that'd be a good start for steering away from this, in my perspective, nightmarish vision of the future. i've dealt with five family members with alzheimer's and it is not fun for anyone.

but of course, in order to effectively move away from that future, people would have to take responsibility for themselves. and we don't live in a society that promotes that idea. it's just TOIL, BUY, TOIL, BUY, TOIL, DEAD.

  • the epidemic is sitting in some government lab, waiting for the go ahead for its release. just like the elite, illuminati wants. bring on the NEW WORLD ORDER EH?

  • Logan's Run is our only hope...

  • Carrousel is a lie!

  • s.isn`t Star Trek a documentary?.

  • LOL!

  • stuff.hehe!-be cool with yourself!.

  • "head injuries are bad for you"

omg, who could have guessed ...

  • s.lol!!!!!!

  • What, a TED video that's not 15 minutes long?

  • i take omega 3 capsules everyday. i am glad i like to eat fish as well.

  • you're still an idiot though

  • s.lol!!!. i eat my g/friend`s pussy 2/3 time`s a week,doe`s this help?.

  • If your are dating a fish, perhaps.

  • b.she taste`s like tuna-doe`s this contribute to my omega 3 intake?.

  • No. If she tastes like Tuna, she probably should wash herself down there.

  • w.she doe`s!!.she has "fish odour syndrome".(google it).she lack`s an enzyme that would "normally" dissipate this odour.i was hoping i got the required omega 3`s.

  • You find the enzyme in soap.

  • w.you are so wrong.soap make`s no difference.you obviously know nothing about this.................

  • we need a TED talk about this

  • roid.lol!!.

  • 'epidemic' is a buzzword for 'increase in the number of neurological deceices due to aging population. Epidemic really means an increase in the relative number in total population.

  • I understand your analysis but the "increase in the number of neurological diseases due to aging population" is an "increase in the relative number (of neurological diseases) in total population." If there are more old ppl there will be more neurological diseases. So I would say "epidemic" wasn't misused.

  • dead on, mvans. What he's saying is something like after getting a better paying job there will be an epidemic of taxes. Though I'm glad he's working on Alzheimer's. Not for me but for people like terry pratchett.

  • That's not it. 'increase in the relative number in total population' is a relative number, the other is absolute number. Epidemic can't exist unless there are relatively increasing cases. All other causes are absolute, the total number, which may be due many reasons, not necessarily any general threat. It is particular, it only matters for the wards who take care of neurological diseases in elderly. It is not a general concern in the sense that we are in for an epidemic. Misused word.

  • Ok I think I get what you're saying. So you mean since cases of neurological diseases won't increase with young people its not an epidemic. As in an epidemic only exists when all the population is at risk.

  • I also mean that the man used the misunderstanding of that word to gain attention. Manipulation.

  • "use it or lose it" the brain health industry is one of the fastest growing for exactly this reason. Nintendo dual screen has "brain age" the web is filling daily with "brain builder" type mental challenge games. Neurofeedback and biofeedback are significantly on the rise. The world is not so bleak as he suggests, people are just learning that it's not enough to just go to the gym, you also have to exercise your brain and mind and that has proven to prevent or stave off many of these problems.
