How to Fix GTA 4 lag on Mac!

this is a little off topic but, in the transgaming grand theft auto IV folder, isn't that where the User Music folder is supposed to be? I created one and put shortcuts to the mp3's in there but independence still doesnt work even by doing complete scan. Do you know how to make custom music work for gta IV? Btw I am also a mac user.

you cant stop lag by freeing your memory. the only way to stop lag is to updat your graphics card which means you have to update your whole computer. Waste of time watching this video.

@lolguesswhoiam click no to debug it and run again, if this happens again, click yes and see if it runs. As a last resort, install Direct-X using Crossover. If don't know how to use crossover, there are many videos on youtube that show you how to do that

@CideoProductions - Video was really helpful, its improved the gameplay lots. However I am not sure I patched the game properly. I downloaded the patch and full crossover, but when I open the patch nothing happens. Could you explain what I am supposed to do with it?

Also I found that by downloading smcFanControl and turning all fans up to full that helped the game run smoother.

@fox123456789ish I think you the full version of Crossover games and Crossover. To create a txt file open textedit (an app default with macs) and paste in the code. Now save it on your desktop. Right-click on the file and the click get info. After, that just change the extension to .txt instead of .rtf

Well I got both a MacBook and a MacBook Pro in my family. On MacBook the game works fine, just lags a bit. But on my MacBook Pro it doesn't even start the game. When trying to open, it tells "Fatal error" and smthn 'bout DirectX. I got DirectX on the Pro by crossover but no difference. Any suggestions? I'd appreciate it ;)

@Dotardo first right click in the root of the game and select 'new folder' and drag the textedit thing in the file then open up a new finder window and make sure both windows r in the root of the game. then open up the folder you made in one of the windows and drag the textedit thing in the other window and drop it in the root of the game.

Great vid man. i Followed everything and it worked, my graphics card is only 320M too, so this working properly is amazing, great effort and thanks so much. i couldnt make the graphics and resolution higher in the game as it would be way to laggy, but even at the lowest resolution everything works perfect, on the slight occassion theres like a millisecond of lag, but thats also just a rare occurence. well done man.

@ItachiKenobi you have to put everything on the lowest setting, like literally everything, then th game will run smoother, and are the graphics nvidida geforce 320M yeah? should work if you follow all steps, and to put commandline in the root folder, just make it a .TXT file, search it up on youtube or google if you dont know how. then drag and drop into the root folder like he said. should all work perfectly. :)
