so there are all these problems in the world. the question is why aren't Christians (including myself) doing more about the environment and the poor instead of worrying about the when the "end of the world" will come? I just don't buy his thesis, from a bibilical perspective and a secular perspective. Yes ppl are always going to attracted to the kind of gnostic/dualistic escapism David is preaching. Much harder to do what Christ taught and herald the kingdom of God in the here and now and do it!

I think he means that in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Kingdom has already arrived. New creation has broken thru in the present age of sin and death and we are to build for God's King right now in anticipation of the time when God will renew the whole world.

In my experience people disparage those groups openly amongst Christian circles, and don't know very much about SDAs at all. When I have heard people speak against them, they don't name the group, unlike when they disagree with Scientology or the LDS church.

Frankly more Protestants speak against Catholics than likely all those groups combined, and I disagree with much of their teachings but that doesn't make them right.

They are many instances in human history where you could have said this is surley the end, but it wasn't. The events he mentions are only natural, they are ups and downs, such is life. My biggest problem with such talk is that even if the future would hold some hope, solution, these guy wouldnt see it, since NO HOPE fits better with their plan then hope.

@xpsalm119x Agreed, but Jesus does warn us to beware deception in the last days, and if someone says Jesus is in the field or the city, not to follow. Watchers are in the Book of Enoch quoted in Jude, but that book isn't authoritive, and I haven't read it.

Seventh-Day Adventists do believe that Lucifer/satan will come to earth, pretending to be Jesus, along with his fallen angels/demons (who might impersonate prophets of old, or even "aliens") deceiving the world into breaking one of God's commandments (the Sabbath - Saturday) by saying that the "law was changed" that way, he'll get worship- something the enemy has always wanted.

The Bible is the only safe ground- anything outside is potentially a deception.
