Be careful changing the exhaust on this car. You might need a reprogram afterwards or you will lose power in low to mid range. Or you must get an exhaust with calibrated backpressure. This is because the oem exhaust muffler has a backpressure calibration n backpressure valve.
Nissan makes the best engine and tranny combo out there. the VQ engine is always a top 10 engine and if you are looking for a great starting point for an import tuner than look no further than the nissan line up. every year they improve upon their engines with user feedback and track testing. While every other manufacturer is giving up performance for fuel mileage, Nissan steps in and shows you can have both IE the 370Z
@solumic: I highly doubt that a 4 banger can take out a maxima. Bone stock has the power and torque advantage. Only problem is weight, but still beast none the less...
Well, guess I'm going for the thicker tires then lol. See if that solves it. But yea better motor mounts will help. My last car had horrendous wheel hop after one of the motor mounts went. Worth looking into.
@kevinpeller Iv driven so many front wheel drive cars, civic hopped, ford focus hopped, eclipse hopped my maxima hopped, intergra hopped, mini cooper sport kinda hopped, but it mostly just made a shit load of noise.....thats 5 diffrent companies and all hopped, so let me kindly rephrase myself almost every front wheel drive car will hop, the only reason I say that I cause the mini didnt hop much at all, but it did hop.
Good god... wheel hop much? Or was that torque steer? I do love how these older maxima's had 6MTs hate how the new ones only come with a fun sucking CVT. Although I think I'd rather have an 06-07 6MT V6 Accord Sedan instead since these are getting old and I hated the looks of the 04-08 Maxima
Wish my 6MT '02 had limited slip...but then again, maybe spinning the tires all the way through first gear on a hard launch is better than wheel hop! Kind of tricky to get a good launch without either excessive wheel spin or bogging the engine.
I have the same vehicle too without few options and no LSD. I thought putting an LSD in would eliminate the wheel hop - this video clearly demonstrates otherwise - sure glad I'd didn't spend the money. Wayy to much power to the front. I love nissan tho, G35 sedan is next.
i dont kno how to drive stick yet, but dont you think you should have the rpm higher before releasing the clutch to avoid bad wheel hop. i want one of these too. but nice vid!
I own one of these--mine has every option with 6 spd too-- wheel hop in first tells me this is authentic---mine does the same thing---just too much power for FWD...the right tires do help...I once tried oversize Falkens but stock sized Kumhos work better but not perfect--but when bad weather comes this car has surefootedness that RWD cars only dream about..I live in Sun Belt and I'm curious--how does this car hold up in states with salt and potholes? What tires do you use? Any mech probs?
Its done very well for me so far, but the previous owner took very good care of it. Right now its got Yokohama AS430 tires which are the ones on it when I bought it, I'm looking into suspension and wheel setups in the future. It has intake and exhaust now, but I have yet to make another video.
@luxaurum SInce you hav eone you could probably answer this. I have been wondering, do they have traction control? I know my mom's 1999 does, but did they use it on this generation?
@luxaurum i live in Ontario, Canada (notorious for salt), and so far, theres only rust in the wheel wells, and hood where theres stone chips. Also, for rough roads, i've only had to replace one strut. (keep in mind, it was a used car, it was in a crash before)
in D it shifts 2nd-3rd at about 65, try holding it in second and then at 80 you'll reach rev limiter and try just before it reaches rev limiter throw into D =)

I got 6.4 anD I might have stopped a little early. Not bad, if you can get those shifts down.

Shifting = awful.

@tyhicks2
At least that tells you that if you can shift really well this car could scoot some nice times 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

Gosh my Acura's 4 banger would destroy this. And the wheel hop? what bad weight balance and power distribution.

@Solumic dude any front wheel drive car if floored will wheel hop and rear wheel will spin in place for a fucking month.

@kevinpeller You have never driven a correctly built, balanced front wheel drive then.

How did you get the speed to jump almost instantly from about 39 mph to about 51 mph at 0:05?

THese cars tend to wheel hop badly by nature.

@RocaFellaBryan all you need are stiffer bushing motor mounts to eliminate wheel hop

nice car man! had a chance to time 1/4?
I thought that gears are shorter in the 6 speed, my 99 I30 does 40 in first and 80 in second... this one as I can see 1st till 40 and 2nd is 60
emikI30 2 years ago
Yeah they are shorter. My 96 Maxima does 40 in 1st and not quite 80, but close to it in 2nd. Hell, 3rd hits over 100.

Yeah... But mine's manual. I'm guessing automatic has slightly longer gears, which happens quite a bit.
