VW motors are easy to change out so all you need to do is have a motor that can pass emissions and put that one in for the test and swap it out when you get home. I lived in Arizona and that is all you need to do, and if you aren`t mechanically inclined join a V W club.

Just a little FYI: At the time of this Video. The Green Baja is my only car and has been my daily driver for close to 20 years now. So I'm not going to go out and trash on it like some 16 year old pin head. If I break somthing on the car I'm walking. I did put money into the baja over the years. I did not make much money, so if I broke it, I might not have the money to fix it. I would have no car to drive. aka Walking again.

it has 29" tall tires on the front and 30" tall tires on the back. It runs 3x3 trailing arms on the back and 1x1 arms on the front. It's street legal, See the Tag and Plate on the rear. The cage is custom, The so called bumpers are part of the cage. The engine is 2.3OHC I4 aka "Pinto", "Mustang","Ranger" etc. It works just as well on the street as it does off road.

That looks like a great balance between daily livability/reliability and off road ability. I went to far towards off road ability and its a bi@!# to live with on a daily basis, not to mention the expense. I regret taking it that far because lets face it, most people drive more miles on the street and that needs to be taken into account. Looks like you have plenty of travel in a comfortable car. GREAT JOB !!!! I am going to go more in the direction you did on my next car.

That looks like a 2.0L or a 2.3L Ford inline 4-cylinder "Pinto" engine. Am I right? I used to have one in a 71' Super Beetle. It was fast to say the least.

I miss my first car a 65 baja bug. 1835 with a holly 2 barrel. I had a bus transaxle with reduction boxes mounted upside down an an anti hop kit. Blackledge close ration gears a super diff. norsman tru traks 11/15's on original jackman spokes. 6volt starter on 12v system. chrome stinger. full carpet inside full cage rollbar through the dash. thing trailing arms. 13" clearance in the back and 11 in the front. Pulled wheelies off the line. Never got stuck in mud.. that thing was just awesome !!

you wheelied an 1835? Stock crank w/ 92mm pistons - that's an 1835 right? Wish mine would do that. I've got a webber progressive - not too impressed with it. My bro's got a holly 2bbl w/ the individual runner manifold and it's noticably peppier but he's also got higher compression - 150psi vs my standard vw 125.

If you had to choose between dual webbers and a supercharger designed for a VW, which would you try? I just lucked into a killer deal on both items.

are you serious? go take a ride in one. they are way stronger then any pickup. because i have oned a 1963 baja, and a 1976 ford f250 that was beefed up majorly(video on my page)and my bug could do things that my pickup couldnt even dream of(altho the pickup would kick the bugs ass in mud). they are extreamly tough little cars. i agree that the stock motors are pretty damn slow, but nothing a cam and turbo wont fix, and its cheaper to build up a vw motor(cheaper on gas too) then it is a big v8.
