  • Invest in a microdrop coolant system. It will help keep the chips from welding to the end mill. In the end thats what caused the end mill to snap.

  • Jacobs chucks hold drills.

If you really have to, you can grip a milling cutter and open or countersink an existing hole, carefully.

    But side loads - nooooo

  • i know, intented to make .5mm deep cuts. you can see the chuck go deeper when its moves along. this is just the chuck dropper out of the taper... will use a collet once i have one for 3mm shanks... i get a decent finish though...

  • You'll wreck your drill chuck, too. It's not made for the side loads of cutting. It looks like it's been knocked out of it's taper at the end of the video. Using a collet will keep all of that load up close to the spindle bearings, and you'll get a much better finish. Use the CNC system to your advantage; try taking several shallower passes, instead of one deep cut. Or, slow down, and use compressed air to clear chips. Thanks for sharing the video, I have an 'oops' of my own on here too. :)

  • @vlmarshall It definitely will wreck that chuck! Glad someone caught that other than me.

  • hahahahahahaha
