they tested cannons on F-86 in Korea during the war in 1953 as project Gunval. However the cannons placement  cause the engine to flame out. later in the 50's General Electric developed the Vulcan cannon that is still in use today on all American combat aircraft.

Actually U.S. tested 20MM cannon in mustang. found them to jam easy, & low rate of fire. .50 cal machine gun had higher rate of fire & was more reliable. only P-38 Lightning had a Cannon, supplemented by 4 .50 Cal machine guns. .50's rip up Me-109's & FW-190's quite efficeintly. not to mention Japanease Zero.

The main reason why US used machineguns was, that inexperienced pilot can hit target better with long bursts and lots of shots..

German pilots, as they were mostly experienced, could use for example 30mm slow-firing, but deadly cannon in BF109.

Novice needs much more shots to hit plane, but masters like Hartman were able to shot down plane with few rounds aimed at pilot or vulnerable parts like fuel tank or engine cooling/fuel lines.

The 190's engine could still put out at extremely high angles of attack, that was why it was such a deadly close range and agile dogfighter. It was the Su-37 of it's day.

Yes, the P51 is a fantastic plane, but it is more like the F16 of it's time. Enogh said pal. just look at the specs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't some of the later model Mustangs come equiped with a pair of 30mm cannons as well as the remaining 4 .5's? So, at that point, the mustang would've had that extra bite that made it a beast with wings.

The x-port combat adapter gives you a "dead stick" for like 5-10 seconds when you get hit too much. thats why he crashed lol

I don't know. However, P-51 was faster and had bigger range than FW-190. But FW-190 had stronger armament and air cooling engine. Hard to say which was better...

These are RC planes that don't have almost anything in common with the real ones.

The real ones were totally different planes, and the P-51 was doing it's job better, primarily because of it's quantities, I think.

According to their website, it says once the plane has been "hit" the motor stalls for 10 seconds. That seems quite long

Pretty much demolished the front of the p-51. It's been glued and repaired and is now home to a 10 sized glow engine :') Those are too much fun. We are workin on video's of 1/3 scale J3 Cub, Sukhoi, D7 Biplane, and a 48" extra 300. Should have a lot of new posts soon. Thank you spring lol

Yea I added the extra prop nut, I take off with low rate the swich to high once I'm in flight. I have always just set it up centered then do a complete trim job once airborn. Try throwing it a little up and not as hard like your throwing a baseball or anything. I found just a good shoving toss works the best. Good luck

I have both the P-51 and FW-190. The P-51 has limited control without power. In a test at 200" I killed the throttle and attempted to guild. The plane rolled over on its side and dove into the ground. (note: plane was totaled) The FW-190 did not have this problem, but it is a little underpowered.

I think there arfe some engineering probs with the p-51. Without thrust it does a wingover and looses all control very easy. Thanks for the comment. The combat modules are a lot of fun, they are real aim sensitive, makes it hard to get a kill for sure.
