I just know the guy could have landed a counter with no troubles... It was good to let him continue as he still had chances. You really take a while to get back to your senses after a punch like that, but I don't think it would be wise to stop it... The second would have thrown the towel if he wanted the fighter to stop.
it was a great fight. both guys were giving it their all and both guys got rocked. i think it would of been unfair to stop it after the first knock down. good stoppage if you ask me.
@slimithy12 Are you kidding me? He couldn't even walk towards the referee properly after the first knockdown. This is why boxing has so many horrible injuries.
As a boxer you should know when to stop yourself. Know your limits. People who don't know their limits are the ones who get fucked up, and not just in boxing, but in life.
WHAT THE FUCK REF .. dumbass should of stopped the fight on the 1st KO.. Fire the hell out of that ref . thats how people get really hurt. even server head truma . shit was funny when he got knocked down the 1st time but then u see the ref not callin the fight im like r u serious .. ... he was done the 1st go around now you lettin'em go back then there . damn shame.. Poor kid never stood a chance ..Bad Ref's need to be stopped
@ManInCognito how could you say mike Tyson couldn't fight inside? Are you stupid, all he did was slip punches, get on the inside and unleash about 7 punches to the body and then knockout punches to the head. In ways he was a smarter boxer than Ali. You just clearly don't know anything about boxing, even people who didn't like him knew and respected him as an amazing fighter. Your just a penis
This is a better example of stopping a fight...he was clearly still well shaken by the knockdown, he was almost falling over as the cet him continue, the other boxer was continuosly landing some heavy punches throughout and was a clear winner without the first knockdown I reckon...
You have to demonstrate that you will be able to adequately defend yourself to continue. ie. able to stand solid, not lean into the ref, etc. Plus the guy was getting pummeled from the outset. should have saved him the extra damage and stopped it around the 7 count.
He was too wobbly after the first knockdown. Just because he obeyed the ref's instructions doesn't mean he isn't injured. It should have been stopped after the first knockdown, especially since he was leaning on the ref. The count was also a little slow. Bad stoppage..too late.
When a guy leans on you for more than a second, not just working on his balance, it means he's not in his right mind. Mercante might have had some serious damage done to him because of a referee that has never had even an amateur fight.
The punch at 0:46 does it. It is clear that after that he is dazed and cannot defend himself anymore. In theory, that's the moment to stop the fight. Difficult decision. But anywhere between 0:46 and 0:51 would be okay. After that? Totally irresponsible.
Eh, I don't think the ref waited too long. The guy was a little wobbly when I got up after the first knockdown. But the ref stopped the fight almost immediately afterwards, where two more hard punches were landed.
they r fucking boxing..... let them beat the shit out of each other as long as they want, quit bitching about the referee being a bro and letting the people see this dude get punched the fuck out one more time
@TreyMMA lol...Tyson was no legend, he was an average fighter at best. Outside of the ring he dragged the sport through the mud, and was just like I said a convicted rapist
@Cawby Yes they stats can be deceiving. Tyson was spoon fed bums and never once beat any great fighters in their prime, never won any truly epic wars, lost every real fight he was in and never once avenged any of his losses.
Prime for prime Tyson was not in the top five of all time.
@ManlnCognito Fastest knockout in the junior olympics history, gold medalist both times he went. The first heavyweight to own all 3 major belts. Only person to ever knock out Holmes, Ended the undefeated Spinks' career. Maybe not the best, but to call him average is undermining what he accomplished. I could give a shit less about his personal life, I'm just talking about his boxing career.
@Cawby Spinks was light heavyweight and Holmes was 38 years old and had been inactive for three years.
Tyson, youngest man ever to lose “all three belts”
And again...LOST EVERY REAL WAR HE WAS IN. Tyson was a one dimensional fighter with no plan b. he couldn't fight on the inside and was a different fighter after the sixth round. stopped moving his head and throwing combo’s
@ManlnCognito Figured as much, no point in talking to some dipshit with their head up their ass. If you want to ignore facts that's your business, none of mine. So good day sir and go back to your blissful state of ignorance.
@Cawby It’s you who are ignoring facts, you seem unable to look at Tyson’s record objectively. Look at the opponents he beat and who beat him...no surprise that you are not old enough to have watched Tyson in his prime. Most Tyson nut huggers are in their late teens or early 20’s
@ManlnCognito When Tyson was around i hated him, i couldn't wait until he was beat but to say he was "average at best", now that's just being silly. He was a great fighter and will go down in history as one of the worlds best, that wont change because just you, me or anyone else didn't like him.
@rayoat Tyson was as good as the fighters he beat, and he only ever beat average fighters.
Tyson only ruled the heavyweight division for two years. Not once did Tyson beat a great fighter in his prime. Not once did Tyson win a real war. And not once did Tyson avenge a loss. He was out boxed by a journey man, out slugged by a cruiserweight and quite against to bums
I wonder some times just what people think makes a great fighter
@ManlnCognito are you retarded?? the reason behind him not fighting any "BIG" names was because thesee "BIG" names wouldnt fight someone of his calibre to be fair if you was a fighter and you was a great of that class and a youngster came outta nowhere beatin the living shit outta people would you fight him? ermmm one minute i'll answer it for you. 'NO'
@mozzermc1234 That is bullshit, unlike you I was around in the late 80’s and watched Tyson in his prime. I remember Angelo Dundee and many Stewart saying how beatable Tyson was. I remember Holyfield going on TV calling for Tyson, same with George Foreman.
Tyson only wanted easy opponents that made him look good. Every time he was properly challenged he was exposed
@rayoat dont even bother with this tyson troll, all he does is watch tyson videos where mike gets ko or loses and bashes him! he's a typical hater who spends his time hating, i checked his profile and he has YT arguments with everyone and anyone who disagrees... pathetic really. he's not worth the time...
The fight should have been stopped after the knockdown. When he got up he staggered towards the ref almost falling into him. Better to lose a fight and fight another day than to be in that condition in the ring.
Could have been stopped with the first 8 count, giy was not really there. But the ref did the right thing in allowing him the chance to recover and fight....people who claim stop it early, this is not a tea party!
I'd have shut at down at 0:59. He didn't have it. It was obvious his motor control wasn't QUITE there. Not as bad as some guys I've seen after they got rung up... but just bad enough to figure it's time to shut it down and have em come back another night.

I think it could have been stopped after the 1st knockdown. It wasn't a one punch caught him 1st knockdown. He had taken a number of heavy blows. That said it wasn't a late stoppage either but it looked bad with hindsight because he faceplanted.
THANK YOU!!! You have to at least give him a chance. I don't know why this video is even titled like this. Terrible... Hard call, but I think the ref did the best job he could
fuck this shit. I just watched a match that was stopped because one of the boxers got a tiny cut after an accidental clash of heads. this is why we will never have any more boxing legends.
@Mega554321 I know, it happens all the time in fights. Fighter's aren't going to risk losing, so it's the ref's job to make sure the fighter's are safe (They should stop the fight before a fighter is seriously hurt).
In MMA, I have seen fighters shout to the ref to stop the match when the other fighter is out. Sometimes it's hard for the ref to make the right call.
Basically, a fighter needs to (and will) keep hitting until the ref stops it (most of the time) :P
I would have stopped it after the first knock down, the fighter was clearly off his feet after that.. BUT sometimes it's a lot easier looking at it from the outside, the ref sees things a lot differently than we see it on camera.. But still the ref. should have had enough experience to pick up on the fact the boxer could hardly stand up after the first knock down and wasn't going to recover.

THANK YOU!!! You have to at least give him a chance. I don't know why this video is even titled like this. Terrible... Hard call, but I think the ref did the best job he could

If all fights were like this and refs get paid as much as i heard, i'd seriously start going to Referee school!!

fuck this shit.
