Look at each of the other three major sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB). No kid in the slums of Alabama, or South Central LA is going to go and play hockey on a given day. The NHL needs to promote the sport by helping municipalities build more ice rinks, and somehow make the game more affordable for people of all economic backgrounds.

If your being serious, then you have to concede the fact that when they were beginning the year, with Avery, important people were out hurt or got hurt towards the end. Lehtinen, Zubov, Morrow, Ott, Boucher wasn't 100%, and others. Turco was in a bad slump no matter who was on the team. And all the young guys, the new faces were inexperienced and learning on the fly when the year began.

I remember playing against guys like Jason Arnott & seeing the drive they had, it did not include throwing away their education just for a couple of glory years in the pros. You seem to value education and athletics very highly, but thruthfully, most athletes in ANY sport could give two shits about an education. If they're good at the sport and have a shot to go pro, they're really not going to be concerned with getting a university degree. As for a "fallback", the money these guys make speaks for itself. Worst comes to worst, they end up getting a job within their own sport once the career's done.

I am being realistic. Maybe Avery doesn't become a bum after hockey and no matter how much I think he lacks class, I wouldn't wish failure on anyone. The thing is there have been countless cases of even great hockey players that fade away after their time in the game is done and many don't find jobs that pay decent money. The money they make in their career only lasts so long you know. Signing autographs for a living afterwards can't be the most rewarding career but many are forced to do so.

I was with my sister infront of the garden before a game and she had an avery jersey. we were facing the other way and he was like "atleast one of you has good taste," and came over and talked with us for about 5 minutes. What kind of person comes up to fans nd takes pictures with them on their own time, none..and he was late. That being said, he was in the top 10 on the team before he said 'sloppy seconds' and was banished. He had like 10 points in 25 games. Based on 80 plus games, he would've had 40 some points here. Not bad for a guy whose job is to piss off the other team, making them take bad penalties.

If your being serious, then you have to concede the fact that when they were beginning the year, with Avery, important people were out hurt or got hurt towards the end. Lehtinen, Zubov, Morrow, Ott, Boucher wasn't 100%, and others. Turco was in a bad slump no matter who was on the team. And all the young guys, the new faces were inexperienced and learning on the fly when the year began.
How did Avery cause all these pro athletes to fail? He may be a prick, but how did he do that?

THAT is why his fellow players are being apathetic about him. They just don't care what happens to him and they'd rather have him off the team... maybe out of the league.
No one worth their salt would say Dallas rocked pre-Avery, but this certainly shook the team.
