  • ITS A JOKE! I GOT IT SYD, NOT LIKE THIS BUNCH OF LOOSERS DOWN HERE. SEE YOU LATER SYD THE PAINTER! THE BEST!

  • Ok, so he was mentally ill, he knew that and wrote a song about it and performed it. Well I guess he wasn't that ill. ;)

  • this songs is one of the most beautiful, weird, and relatable things every composed. thank you sydney :]

  • happy birthday syd<3

  • feliz cumple

  • Happy Bday Syd !

  • If only they were there for Syd...such a loss

  • this is the sound of someone going completely out of his mind and you know what? i fking love it

  • And I'm wondering who could be writing this song...

  • miss you syd although i have never met you.

we could probably talk for hours sometimes it seems that people who are alike or have the same views are either to far from each other or from diffrent time periods, rest in eternal love with god....

  • This is an incredible piece of songwriting. This song was an unfortunate send off to Syd, he just sang it with no emotion. However, i still believe that he is one of the greatest songwriters who ever lived.

  • Fucking hate who post 'acid' on every video of Syd! How could anyone be on LSD and still manage to write and play songs? This is just ridiculous! Some songs might be inspired from Syd's trips but it's not the only influence.

  • Its sad to watch someone with so much talent falling into the depths of mental illness. Even with all the modern medicine we had at that time, mental illness was still considered a taboo. People that had the plague got treated better.

  • acid :D

  • 5 idiots

  • Such strange time signatures, good song regardless. Gotta love Syd

  • this makes me want to cry :(

  • fantastic!!

  • They had yet to add the Salvation Army band, I guess - interesting.........

  • From his expressionless face, to the sad words in this song, Syd knew what was unfortunately happening inside his mind, and this was his way of telling the rest of Pink Floyd, and the world, what to expect in the near future. Consider it extraordinarily well managed chaos. He wrote this tune while confronting overwhelming, mountainous mental disarray--and the song is still flawlessly reflective of his genius. Hats off to Syd for being the otherworldly genius that he is.

  • @darkangelinthedesert Someone who rlly appreciates floyd like u deserves a medal :P

  • Was this mix only done for the video?

It extends the weird a-tonal "jugband" for about a minute or so.

(So sad to see how far Syd had fallen even at this point-his face is completely expressionless the entire time. I'm not even sure if he knew whether he was "there" or "not there")

  • Syd Barret was a musical genious!

  • oh god. when rog starts blowing on the tuba...oh...my heart...my ovaries...

  • Roger Waters is the reason Syd was out of the band.

  • @EMC2121962 why so?

  • In an alternate universe Syd Barret still plays with Pink Floyd and the sun still shines and everybody does their loving in the window

  • music will never be the same

he wrote some of the best, weirdest, craziest, stuff of all time

imagine dark side of the moon with the syd touch

  • @webmaster8040 Dark side on the moon haver the syd touch

  • @aitorparra Syd Barrett had allready left the band. infact he's only on Pink Floyds first 2 albums. and only briefly on the second one

  • @webmaster8040 it was written for him. so was wish you were here

  • @machinimafan27 not BY or WITH him though.

  • @webmaster8040 No doubt of that.

  • 0:38 - As a drummer, that moment cracks me up every time X°D. Anyways, been loving pink floyd since i was 3 yo but this song i just never found interesting... it almost doesn't make sense

  • syd barrett = poetry

  • syd barrett = music

  • "IM TWELVE AND I LOVE THS"

  • @Pops1800 There is a fine line between Genuine and Insane

  • @PowerQuebecois Insanity is Genuine, everybody has their own insanity concept my friend, every head it's a completely different universe

  • Jennifer Gentle.... YOU'RE A WITCH!

  • a perfect psichedelyc travel ... I love Pink Floyd!

  • this song fascinates me.

  • Great video, there is no other artist like Syd Barrett !

  • Syd was an intelligent, creative, innovative artist at heart. He used his abilities to bring apon a musical art that enters the mind through visuals, sound and lyrics. What more can you ask for from a song ? It takes a powerful mind to create such an experience . Syd Barrett is only human , one mind can only produce so much ,especially when being pressured to in the business. Strong minds never weaken they just choose not to be forcefully rushed. R.I.P Syd

  • thanks 4 posting this

  • "And what exactly is a joke?" then Syd turns away from the camera. Was he trying to say his eccentricities were him just fooling around?

  • Oh wow. Man alive, he really WAS out of his mind by this time here. God, I hate the '60s for what it did to an otherwise gifted young man like Syd Barrett. Still...he was good all the way 'round.

  • Syd had such hollow eyes

  • "It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here

And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear

    That I'm not here."

Anybody realize he is talking to the band? The first line and a half is sardonic toned, even spoken that way. Then the reality of his surroundings - the band pushing him out, his mind is almost gone, etc. - is etched in "making it clear that I'm not here." He sees people acknowledging his deterioration, which may in fact have flattered him in some egocentric way.

  • @rwfmade very true my friend, sometimes it was easier for him to sing it, rather than say it . people ask too many questions when in conversation face to face . he wanted out really i think , out of the bullshit .

  • This is so stonerish!

  • "A Saucerful Of Secrets" , my favorite Floyd since 1968 when I bought it for $2.98 on Tower Records. And still own it. Play it! No Scratches at all.

I Love This! It's so fuckin' PsycheWEIRDelic! Almost like sleeping and dreaming while still being dosed from the night before!

    Or

This was directed by David Lynch (Without explaining how he got to the past__Typical Lynch!).

    !Long Live SYD!

  • @RadioCannedMusic sorry to break it to you, but syd died in 2006 of pancreatic cancer

  • @REvenzo2 What a twit! What are you commenting to me this for of all people. Criticize things you know nothing about ....ME!

  • @REvenzo2 i dont see how i was critizing you...

  • it's cool seeing the video with the audio that actually goes with it :D

  • I'm confused. What does it matter who's nostalgic for older music? What does it matter if someone goes, "I'm young and I love this shit?" Believe it or not, it's not exactly easy for all of us to find other young folk who are into this weird old music shit, and these comments are kind of an affirmation that we have kin somewhere. Do you expect people to post intelligent musical dissertations on youtube? Listen to the music. That's it. Listen. The music is the end all.

  • I think Syd Barrett came to find the psychadelic world so appealing he decided he'd rarther stay there than write songs for Pink Floyd.

  • @villiparis I think what he means by "i'm not here" is that, things are in costantly change, so what he was that time wouldnot be what he was going to be in his future..

And i dont think he stayed in the other side of the line, he surely crossed it to write many of his songs..

but i what i honestly think he did was to say no to an ego based life, which is to be a star even without shining,

    he said no to materialism

  • @2eoquin Syd wasnt cut out to be in the spotlight, he didnt want to be the center of attention on stage, he just wanted to make some songs to heal himself. Problem was that these songs forced him into a situation he couldnt cope with, so in the end he destroyed himself from within. He was a very sensitive person and wasnt obsessed with fame and fortune like the rest of the band.

  • im not here

  • poor old Keith, an accidental genius.

  • This video makes me feel like I've been abducted by hippie aliens ! Very cool ! Syd rocks !

  • Comment removed

  • Jugband blues is a great song but Syd in this version barely moves and really what exactly is a dream?

  • love this song this is when syd was going mad and 1 of the last songs he made

  • happy bday my idol

  • syd was great but wow but amazing life1

  • I truly believe Syd wasn't schizo. He just crumbled under the pressure of changing his music to please record executives or just in general being perceived as a public figure. The man just wanted to do shit like UFO, experiment, but I guess the others wanted the attention.

But then again, I don't want to put the blame entirely on the other members. I mean it would've of been arrogant of Syd to expect them to do what he wanted even though he wasn't entirely clear about it.

  • BAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA 1:33 Nick look like hes havin a Great time in his own world!

  • this tune is pure skitzo

  • Can someone please tell me where this footage was taken from? Surely there is a film of the whole concert somewhere? Or maybe it was taken from a documentary? Please if you know, let me know.

  • This song is AMAZING!!!

I think all of Pink Floyd it's UNIQUE!!

DAMN!! Why I didnt lived in the 60' !!!!????

  • @Dorothyluzdeagua1 actuall 1955 would be the best year to be born in just sayin

  • what a freak

  • Quite an interesting clip, especially for a tune by the late great Syd Barrett.

  • This video is trippyyy on shrooms, I love the floydster though, timeless

  • Now that that's done, I really prefer early Pink Floyd over their later records like before The Wall. Ironically the only Floyd records I own are The Wall and Animals.

  • -body at one point or another) but cut the fucking politics/lectures and enjoy the music.

  • Look, I'm not too fond of those kids that try to prove themselves by telling the world that they like old music but I'm also not fond of the smug shits who feel the need to preach the word and shoot down the kids who feel at least slightly superior to the kids who watch MTV, follow celebrities, and listen to the latest shitty pop music because the fucking should. You dumb shits don't know what you want or the point you're trying to make. This last part may be a bit hypocritical (well isn't ever

  • strange but interesting song in terms of tempo, lyrics and arrangement.

  • I love Barrett so much because he realy walked like he was talking. He did not hypocritical about his drug use as many artists did. Barrett had his own vision on things and most people did not understand him back then. Most people painted him as a poor helpless acid addict and declared him insane or shizofrenic. They just blamed all his problems to drug use.

  • He wonder's who wrote this song and "I'm" wondering who could be writing this message... no one.

  • epic

  • hes trying. making a concerted effort here, I guess not up to Waters standards especially after pulling the one chord concerts:refusing to sing live and the famous "Have you got it yet" sessions. but you gtta give the guy a break right?

  • BARRETT!!!!!! we miss you!!!!!!

  • ludacka pesma izasla iz ludog mozga..

  • Syd's eyes, so sad. GOSH I hate being 14, I was born in the wrong era...

  • @4N63L1C4 perhaps, but you have your whole life ahead of you. I would love to be that young agin, go out and get stoned, kiss a pretty girl, eat some candy, have fun!!.

  • GOSH I hate cliche, stereotypical comments like these that ruin good video clips and YouTube in general. Im just glad that I'm encountering an increasing amount of people who are as sick of these sad sack "please back pat my music tastes" comments as I am. And fwiw, it's fucking RETARDED to put a value to the period you were born in based entirely on what music you CHOSE to listen to.

  • @xreddragonx Exactly. People should be judged by more important things than their favourite bands, like whether or not they're elitists who think their preferences are superior to everyone else's. In trying to redeem the tastes of their collective age group all they do is just further the belief that teenagers are self-centred and egotistical.

  • @xreddragonx And why does EVERYBODY have to do that?

  • @xreddragonx I just though this was a top song knowing that it was the last one syd did with the floyd he really knew how to deliver the message my hero

  • @xreddragonx so what are you 12 or something?

  • @DaveS12382 12 and half, thank you. And what is this?

  • @xreddragonx your brain.

  • @xreddragonx There's an article by a woman named Stephanie Coontz. It deals with the 1950s and general nostalgia about other time periods. What we miss about these decades isn't the reality of them - it's the romanticized bits we take from the culture left behind and the history books. Be gentle. Just because someone says it, doesn't mean they would actually want to live in a culture of war, riots, oppression of women, blacks and gays, etc. They miss something else.

  • @LiveVinyl er, replying to myself, I do believe it's a misguided thing to say, but that's all it is; misguided. Not offensive, not cruel, just misguided. So be gentle.

  • @LiveVinyl "Oppression of women" is pretty subjective (a topic I could go on about at another time) but otherwise, you're right about people romanticizing the past. We got 12 year-olds who are already romanticizing the culture of the period that I grew up: tail-end 80s to mid 90s. Which, disregarding that it makes me feel old, also makes me feel weird in the sense seeing my youth regarded as "a different time in history. lol.

  • @LiveVinyl Still, enjoying music, any music, should have little to do with your views about eras, or comparisons of yourself to other people. I actually do feel that Rock music was in a better state back then, but there's no point of dwelling on a bygone era. Music doesn't just disappear after a while, it is always possible that future generations will enjoy it too. It's not a feat. Many kids will grow up exposed to the stuff their parents used to like..it's pretty normal.

  • Strange though they are all tired of Syd yet they go along with this song. Like (I read somewhere) when John Lennon makes fun of George Harrison's Eastern Indian beliefs in "I am the Walrus", and George plays right along.

  • @chamberl Which is also funny because this whole song was written by Syd as a jab at the rest of the Floyd, with him essentially calling them out on their shit and stating how fed up he was with the entire "situation" at the time, which was mostly due to his own madness. Either way, it's not surprising he left right after this.

  • Kind of a depressing video unfortunately. They all seem like they can't stand Syd anymore. It was just about the end of the Syd-Pink Floyd relationship here. Plus, Syd looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there.

  • I must admit, I cried when I first heard this song.

  • Syd doesnt look out of it at all haha

  • q tripera la de syd jajajajajjajaja

  • Syd Barrett was a great English Poet and minstrel who brought JOY to millions of people with his vividly original art. To create your own form of art takes courage and a sense of exploration - to boldly go...... Syd brought an immense wealth of Beauty into the lives of so many. Subtlety, fragility, a dream-like and surreal form of poetry and exquisite melody - to be an artist in this world is no easy gig...

(The Caterpillar - A Visionary Ghetto Tabloid)

  • he was writing about him self on this one, syd was my biggest influence to write songs

  • Syd looks here like he was burned, physically and mentally. So sad.

  • Shine on

    You crazy

    Diamond. :}

  • Very disturbing and sad. Syd's a legend.

  • this so sad. he was well off his rocker and on his way out of the band here.

  • Every Syd tune is just a gem.

  • Great song great vid GREAT SYD

  • Esta es su despedida de una forma subliminal... Aguante barret y floyd y el buen rock!!!!

  • they were soo high

  • this song = insanity!!!!!

  • just look at those eyes.. so sad :(

  • John Lennon on Tuba ;)

  • Dood, absolutely one of the best songs EVER written.

  • Awesome

  • Wow, wish I was born during the 50's

  • seems like Syd was and never was like a moment in time could be experienced but not ours to keep

  • @carrier3232 Well said!

  • Syd, you'll shine forever in my heart. Thank you for your music.

  • Amazing how a band with a vast legacy like that of Pink Floyd continues to be defined by their first album and part of their second one. Of course this clip is proof as to why that is the case....

  • dream so big, you brought me here on false pretenses dead Syd in 2010

British Petrolium killed everything and seafood is extinct now.

    brittania ruled again... my friend.

  • @ePhilosopher9

Take some LSD and listen again!

  • @jeafonsojr As if he doesn't already sound like he's on it, or on something??

  • I honestly think Barrett's music is crap compared to the later albums of Pink Floyd.

  • SYD! SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND!

  • real floyd fans like this.

    I love it.

  • @Nycago i agree with you

i'm 16 years old and i love pink floyd

i like pink floyd with syd barrett more than pink floyd with david gilmour

i feel angry when i look all the people that likes jonas brothers or justin bieber

i m lucky because i really appreciate that legends like syd ,jim morrison ,john lennon, hendrix, kurt cobain and other bands that make history.

in 100 years pink floyd will be in our hearts and that disney "rockstars" will be in a hole

  • @fabukie well mate, let's guess we're just lucky to like pink floyd and others,

instead of brainwashedly listening to 'easy music' like the bieberfaggot (:

  • @fabukie Don't worry about the artists you don't like. Just concentrate on the ones that you like and let the others fend for themselves. It's much easier that way!

  • Comment removed

  • @fabukie Be glad that you found what is important to you, chill and enjoy. Fans of other music styles will enjoy what they will; this is not a race, a contest, or competition. No need to be "angry".

  • @fabukie Fuuuck yeah!!!!

  • @fabukie I think it's great that you're exploring music like this. I gotta say though, it seems that people have this "dead rock star" fantasy (a little different in Syd's case).

I don't know, for me, it turns into hype, and especially J morrison; had a great band, but he just spat out last night's hangover....

  • Comment removed

  • @fabukie hi, Im your clone!

  • @fabukie

Yea i agree with you, minus the whole terrible grammar thing....and the Kurt Cobain thing...god Kurt Cobain sucks

  • @TheFirstPlubiesWhat?? I think Kurt Cobain was a cool artist...Of course if that's what you think,ok..........

  • @TheFirstPlubies Kurt Cobain sucks.... that's not something anyone who understands music would say...

  • @MYNAMEISQUINCY Kurt Cobain wasn't bad. I don't really like Nirvana but he made a couple of well known songs like Heart Shaped Box and Smells Like Teen Spirit

  • Comment removed

  • @TheFirstPlubies Yeah! That's what made NIN so great. Trent, said fuck it ALL, and made really angry cold dark sounds, Punk attitude, MC5 and Sex Pistol's anger and German Industrial Techno-pop sounds. Still, I do like Nirvana. Kurt had a gift for catchy riffs and a unique sound and a connection with classic 70s rock, and older blues music. As far as Syd Barrett, he decided "fuck it" who are we to expect him to keep entertaining us? Entertain yourselves, you simple sheep. He did.

  • @fabukie You have an exelent taste for good music, indead better as the modern shouting crying musicians.

    with my complimentos!

  • how I wish you were here Syd Barrett.

  • mason's face is aware of something

  • now days, if an artist don't like to playback, most people would appriciate that. Barrett didn't care if it was on stage, he had his own vision on things. He didn't played the saint and he truly believed in what he did and didn't wanted to make a profit out of it like most artist were doing at that time. Most people didn't understand him so they blamed it all on the acid.

  • Aw Rick looks lovely at 0:52

  • When exactly did Floyd make this video?

  • dont try and analzye SYD his brain was so fried..

  • Is that a kazoo I hear?

  • This is one my favorites by Floyd, especially this version. The fact that it was his last song with them makes it all the more powerful, especially the lyrics. I can listen to this song over and over all day, everyday, and never get tired of it. An absolute masterpiece. You know it's a good song when it sends chills through your whole body even after you have heard it one thousand times. R.I.P. Syd Barrett.

  • I miss you Syd

  • This song, is everything and nothing at the same time.

Thats what makes it so great...

  • Actually, you can't. Syd was schitzophrenic, and the LSD acted as a trigger for that, but LSD itself can't cause schitzophrenia. It's a genetic disease.

Overdosing is something else entirely, anyway. If you think it just means that somebody took too much, then I guess that could make sense, but no-one has ever died directly from LSD.

  • @ElectricCatfish dude you can get short term psychosis from acid that can last for months and nothin todo with genetics and its pretty close to schiz.

  • @ElectricCatfish come back when you have done your homework!

    cool tune though!

  • This was true to an extent, it was the passing of his father that triggered it all. before his dad's passing, Syd was quite the upbeat chap.

  • wtf, "dkslajru" yes, you can overdose on acid.

  • Oh yes i remember PINK fIoyd. I was 15/16 when Piper was reIeased. I used to take bIotter tabs (Isd) aII the time and Iisten to fIoyd. Im now 58 years oId (present). I guess i know how syd feIt.

Syd barrett is and wiII aIways be my idoI
