I checked Massoud Wafa's rendition. Yes, I can see the differences in pronunciation. But there is no comparison with Mahdi Hassan's rendition. He is a legend, there is no doubt.

As regards the question whether Mehdi Hasan is singing in Urdu or Persian accent :

I think Persian is spoken in different accents (Irani, Afghani and the one in Sub-Continent).I have hardly every seen any one (teachers, poets) in Pakistan who would recite Persian poetry in Persian (Irani) accent.There is a noticeable difference in how the wowel sounds are pronounced in different accents. But, I must admit that, Irani accent of Persian depicts the true rythm and music of this language.

Excellent download. A great ghazal by Hazrat Sahib (Ameer Khusro) and well-sung by Mehdi Hasan. Urdu translation gives a new dimension to it and makes it understandable.

Beautiful Singing, translation is good, accent is not problem because Persian is not his language and expression is also fine.

Does anyone know whether Mr.Hassan's Persian accent is correct or not? I think he is singing a Persian Ghazal with an Urdu accent.

I agree with you. I think Mr Hassan's accent is Urdu not Persian. Nevertheless, he has sung the ghazal beautifully.

It sounds like a non-native speaker's accent. Phonetically, it is very much an Urdu-zaban's accent, as one would expect.

The main points of departure are the 'sof't' long aa of Urdu/Hindi instead of the more rounded AA of Dari/Farsi speakers and the misplaced use of that aa at the end of words such as raseeda, as is typical in Urdu but should be a short vowel in correct Dari/Farsi.
