As I know people in Tibet today enjoy much larger religion freedom then before (I mean 30 years ago), except they can't show the picture of Dalai Lama, or support independent movement.
For more than 200 years, China has been appointing Governor to Tibet( until 1912), sending armies to Tibet from time to time, either crack down rebels or protect Tibet from invading by other countries.
From 1912-1950 Tibet was ruled by Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama, but never was fully independent, The world community never view Tibet as an independent country .

The overwhelming majority of Tibetans in Tibet were happy before 1950.
But in 2009 the overwhelming majority of Tibetans in Tibet are NOT happy.
The death penalty is a good example of how human rights have gone backwards in Tibet in the last 60 years.

Perhaps you don't know, there are 6 million Tibetan Chinese and 7 million Han Chinese living together for hundreds of years in the Tibet region claimed by Dalai Lama. The separation of the region from China must lead to the greatest humane tragedy. Just imagine million of innocent people are forced to abandon their home where their ancestor lived there for a thousand years.
Even a public vote in Tibet deem to fail because majority of Tibetan Chinese and Han Chinese will oppose the separation.

i agree with what they are saying. But those things are not done by the Chinese government! it is the Tibetan themselves who are doing that! The majority of their wealth is in the hands of 5% of their population. it is hard to find more extreme inequality anywhere else.

What's the problem? I can't understand the problem. Tibet has been a part of China for several hundred years. Longer than the US's own history. That's their own internal problem. Hey! Every large country always has breakaway wannabes. Even the UK! Some chaps in Scotland want out of the UK too! I realize some things the CCP says may be biased, but so is information from 'Western media'. However, it has become apparent to me that a lot of Chinese look at both the Chinese news and Western news sources, because many of them understand chinese and english. Therefore they're able to see both sides of the story, so unless you understand Chinese, their conclusion is likely to be more accurate than yours.

Yes, Mao indeed did a lot of damage on Chinese culture including Tibetan culture during the Culture Revolution (1966-76), but this is a past. As I know people in Tibet today enjoy much larger religion freedom then before (I mean 30 years ago), except they can't show the picture of Dalai Lama, or support independent movement.

For more than 200 years, China has been appointing Governor to Tibet( until 1912), sending armies to Tibet from time to time, either crack down rebels or protect Tibet from invading by other countries.
From 1912-1950 Tibet was ruled by Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama, but never was fully independent, The world community never view Tibet as an independent country .

China always wants to put the control on the countries on South East Asia. And they will not stop until they get more land and power. From the past until, China has many times invaded Vietnam, just a small country. Therefore, there is no reason not to believe that China wants to swallow Tibet. After Tibet, who knows the next target would be Taiwan?!!
