Congrats Boston Bruins on winning the Stanley Cup from Vancouver. Please do not be fooled by the losers who destroyed my city rioting. I am born and raised here and have always liked the Bruins. Lot's of history you guys have there. Certainly one of you reading this must have a copy of this game somewhere? If so am willing to compensate someone if you could dub a copy of this game for me. Please pm me ANYBODY that has this game would like a copy! I didn't know but or GM Mike Gillis was in this 1
I was there - I missed the first fight because I was still taking my coat off after the national anthem. I remember the Bruins equipment guy sorting through all the sticks and gloves on the ice and flinging the North Stars stuff down the other end of the ice. Didn't get home till after midnight.
Flash forward to the Bruins of '09-'10. My how things have changed - now we live in a world gone beserk with political correctness that has contaminated the NHL. Now we play nice and civilized like. The Bruins team of this past year showed none of the of the toughness of the Cashman/O'Reilly/Wensink era.
Prior to this night, the Bruins owned the North Stars, especially in their own arena. Well, the teams eventually met in the playoffs and the Stars eliminated the Bruins in three straight. This was a battle that set the tone for the playoffs, and it worked.
Well you never know, teams are allowed to use retro jersies in a game :) or join the curretn jersey logo and a retro like so, the Canucks. It would be sweet to see that in my point of view cuz the Wild technically can't use the North Star logo.
They can't use the old jersey because that belongs to Minny not Dallas! I always thought that when Minnesota was granted another franchise after the original one left, they should have been given the right to their old team name. But does it really matter?, both team suck so bad anyway....
I believe GM Harry Sinden planned this whole thing. Sonmor did make the comment about "bringing his head home in a basket". This game did result in numerous changes as to how penalties are dealt in such a brawl.
the stars had lost about 35 games in a row at the garden and the north stars coach Glen Sonmor said enough getting pushed around. We're dropping the gloves from the first puck drop! My friend Brad Maxwell was one of only 6 north stars left to play the 3rd period. And he was one of the biggest fighters on the team!
I remember being at this game. I was a huge Northstar fan growing up in MASS. WHAT A GAME!! It seemed to have lasted forever with all of those penaltys. We had to leave before the third peiod ended to catch the last train out of North Station. Thanks to You Tube, I'm able to live those memories over again. Now I live in FLA. and am a huge Wild fan. GO WILD!!
Although i'm a Rangers fan, WSBK in Boston was a godsend for me on Long Island in the early 80's. Those Bruin games rocked so much!I loved watchingthem and listening to Cusak and Sanderson.
Today, I think there is not enough green in the NHL, the Wild red jersey as home is a big NO NO! and the Stars should've made their costume green instead of black.
I think the Dallas Stars should use the 1968 North Stars uniform with the current Stars logo, kinda like the Canucks did. But, Iwould keep the black one as an alternate, it's kinda nice.
At least we may all be able to agree that Gary Beatman (sp?) has completely ruined the game of hockey. The glory days of hockey are long gone and it started with classic teams in classic hockey cities moving, like the North Stars, the Jets and the Nordiques. Not to mention the Hartford Whalers. Man I miss those days.
I agree. I also think there is no way the NHL can have 30 teams. I really think 20-22 strong markets would be a lot better. These sun belt teams have won the last 3 cups, and nobody in the USA gives a hoot !
Giyy the Wild are the class of the NHL. We have sold out every game in existence. Have the best arena in the league (said so by many announcers and visiting players). Have one of the most profitable teams in the league. Huge season ticket waiting list, takes about 5 years or more to get season tickets. The North Stars left because Norm Green got in a sexual harrassment suit and couldnt face the media and fans afterword. Everybody knows that.
They didn't leave because of one guy. They left because your fan base blew. The novelty will wear off and then you guys will be moving again (10 years or so). Have fun while it last, little man.

Yeah too bad Minnesota couldn't even keep their hockey team. Minnesota should never be allowed to have a hockey team ever again after they let their leave and go to Dallas of all places. I would be embarrased of the "Wild". That's pathetic. That would never happen in Boston.
Minnesota is the State of hockey your fucking turd!, The Stars went to Dallas because Norm Green wanted to move the team down there and there was nothing MN could do to stop him. The Wild has sold out every home game, since 2000 does the Bruins sellout everygame your fucking retard?
LOL! I think the next step up from a North Stars fan is a Ducks fan so your right! Who woul admit they were fans of a team that had their origins as a kids Disney fan? That's a rich history!
God Boston sucks, did a Bruin even win one of these fights what a terrible team, in a terrible town, with terrible uniforms, with terrible fans. THE MOST OVERATED CITY IN AMERICA!!
Only a North Stars fan could know how ridiculous and shocking it was to see Bobby Smith fighting ANYBODY! Watching that game from Minnesota I knew something was up. Leave it to a one-eyed coach to help the Stars tap into their "inner pirate". It worked too. First victory in Boston!
Heh, the Philly announcers pretty much call the fight and even decide on a winner most of the time, never mind the 2 or 3 replays. I love Philly, we're goons :o)
Bostonstylist, for your info the North Stars were pushed around by these thugs, long enough. They made a stand as a team, that they would not back down in this game. That tone carried over into their playoff series, that the Stars swept. I was at the Met Center for those games and the atmosphere was electric, the fans at the old Met were fantastic. I miss those games, your Bruins of today are a bunch of pussies compared to the old Bruins.
Actually it was more of a personal thing for Norm Green. Remember he sucks. The NHL, the Gund brothers and Green teamed up to screw MN out of the original team.
At this point, Boston was a bunch of loser, has been thugs. The North Stars were there to play hockey and were loaded with talent. Minnesota held their own for most of the fights that night. They never backed down. I remember this game broke all the records for penalty minutes. No, Bobby Smith couldn't fight worth a lick but everyone else could. And you NEVER fight Al MacAdam. That guy was very mild-mannered but became a punching machine if you pissed him off.
those were the days ...the nhl is for softies now...ya gotta miss the boston garded plus the forum , maple leaf gardens and chicago stadium ...those teams are not the same since ...
I remember this game. I left home for a hockey practice as the fight started. When I got home, the fight was still going on!
The North Stars always took a beating from Boston & had NEVER won in Beantown. Coach Glen Sonmor told the team to drop the gloves every time a Bruin talked trash, ran at a guy, etc.
It paid off too because the North Stars took care of the Bruins in the playoffs, winning the series 3-0.
That was the year the North Stars lost to the Islanders in the Stanley Cup Finals.
I remember the box score of this game- five, six inches long!
