  • Me and my very clever brother share a regular 2.0l model, stunning car always gets the nod from passers by, but I think that's more due to the fact the 2.0l was removed in favour of the 1.8 turbo Audi s3 unit rewarding this car with the heart it deserves!!! We did find under hard acceleration the power steering oil pipe was severed, a bit of re routing and cable ties it's sorted. It will re map to 260bhp but torque steer might be too much, this car weighs 400kg less than the s3 and 220bhp seems

  • More than gold !

  • my favorite car :)

  • in some way that ability to drive on three wheels might be fun but in regular traffic this doesn't give enough confidence unless you know car's limits very well

  • the back wheel is coming off the ground at 2:04

  • i miss my g60:(

  • Tiff Needell was surprisingly more measured, bearable back then. He seems to have taken to shouting his mouth off in the last decade or so, like he's had a bump on the head.

  • @Vigiloaudite He's trying to beat Clarkson at his own game, and he's not doing well at all.

  • i am still looking for a perfect g60

  • @techromancer1 My classmates brother bought one for almost 3500$. He paid the same money to repair and tune that badboy up. It is one of the best accelerating cars that I hav driven. It sucks u into ur seat when u accelerate with full throttle. Buy a cheap one and tune it up. This is almost the only way to get a corrado g60 in a good condition. :) Hope u understood what I said, my english isn't the best ;).

  • @KanistriPoiss yeah i still want one i got a 1978 mk1 scirocco if you look at my vids you can see also your english is good thanks cheers:)

  • @techromancer1

I own one, bought from an old man, 117 000 km on it, 100% orginal and in a good shape:)

  • @techromancer1 vr6 is the way to go

  • @techromancer1 good luck with the search

  • the engine on the 1988-1995 Volkswagen Corrado

    Engine

    1.8L I4 115 hp

    1.8L I4 16 valve 123 or 139 hp

    1.8L I4 Supercharged 158 hp

    2.0L I4 16 valve 134 hp

    2.8L VR6 178 hp

    2.9L VR6 192 hp

  • @Annihilator1111 from my best knowledge as an owner of few corrados, golfs and passats in my life and being a huge fan of VW's... there was no 1.8L having 115 hp, but there was indeed 2.0 with such amount of horses, it's codename was 2E.

Another thing was that 1.8 16V with a symbol KR has had 139 hp, there was no version with 123, there could have been PL with 129 hp, but it was rather swapped unit, basically installed in passats and golfs.

And the last thing: 2.0 16V (symbol 9A) has had 136 hp.

  • If you still want one, go buy one!

  • Did anyone notice the rear wheels lifting off the ground?? 2:06 - 2:32

  • @MrRoboto305 Standard operating procedure in the Corrado :) Mine lifts when entering driveways. It's a function of the rear torsion beam suspension design, stiffer than most non-sport versions (base model golf/jetta, etc)

  • Did anyone notice the rear wheels lifting off the ground?? 2:06 - 2:26

  • My dad and I have always loved the Corrado, although I've always felt we were somewhat of a minority in that opinion.

I nearly bought one in '94 but it was used versus getting a new Golf. My parents were concerned about repairs so I ended up with the Golf. It had the 1.8 litre, an automatic, and did 0-60 in about 14 seconds (no exaggeration).

Somehow I don't think I got the better car. :( This design still looks great to me today!

  • tiff needle hasnt changed abit....however jeremy clarkson

  • I had a 90. utterly brilliant car. I got a reduced diameter pully and some odds and ends so it had about 200hp. beautiful.

  • Yes, great first car. But spendy to fix.

  • 16 and about to get my first car. Anybody think im making the right choice?

  • @peeweejj You'll never get insured on it, it's better as a second of third car. Wait until you're 19 and have a couple of years no claims.

  • Tiff was sooooo young! ^^ haha

  • Owned one for 6 years. Bought it new and put over 120K miles on it. Gave me its shares of problems (nothing major) but I still loved that car.

  • 2:01 hood doesnt look shut

  • Old school brown luggage :)

  • I'm pretty sure that's called a scirocco where I live, I drove one it was nice

  • Great car! The current batch of VWs look generic compared to it.

  • the 1988-1995 Volkswagen Corrado was assembled in

    Osnabrück, Germany

  • THANK YOU. Never seen this episode before.

I´m restoring my Corrado now, building it a 1.9L and using the G-lader. Love it

  • @Oekern90 Great car & you should turbo it. It will be soooo muuch better!

  • RABBIT LEGGIN!

  • Love Tiff's haircut!

  • Después de 20 años y sigue siendo una pasada.

  • I Love Vw!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • his voice is so different he doesnt pause every 2 seconds

  • Quicker than a rx7? No way!

  • @Tohafat

Yes way, stock for stock the g60 will out pull an rx7.

I have the same engine but in a lighter chassis, a scirocco....haven't finished it yet but it's not going to be no slouch i can tell you that.

  • I love this car :-)

  • What the hell is a "boot" and a "bonnet"?! Don't you have luggage compartments and hoods? hahaha

  • @SashkoDC, boot stands for trunk, and bonnet is for hood. Just a small difference between british-english and american-english. Not a big tragedy, just watch the goddamned video.

  • @Dragsteryourself Thanks, Einstein, I think I figured that out myself by saying luggage compartment and hood. And I was joking

  • @SashkoDC, I apologize if I personally didn't quite find it funny. To me it sounded a lot like a moaning of some sort, but that's just me, so move on, nothing to see here...

  • forget the corrado! (even though i own 2) ....... look at the mk1 scirocco!!! <3

  • Holy *%%&$ the inside wheel in the back comes up WTF i dont want it anymore with such suspension

  • @ultimatefantasy1 that's no big deal if the inside back wheel lift

  • @Mawerik024 well all the power and weight is going to 3 wheels and it has less grip then 4 wheels on the road

  • @ultimatefantasy1 The amount of grip given by the rear inside wheel in a corner is completely inconsiderable, infact even if the wheel is on the ground the weight on it is so small (due to the centrifugal forces which you cannot avoid) that it makes no difference whatsoever. On a 4WD (or RWD) car (obviously there's no such problem on a FWD) the torque is sent to the external back wheel (which has way more grip) by the rear differential. I can list lots of great cars that corner on 3 wheels

  • @Mawerik024 well man drive you corrado have fun but dont come crying when your flipeed in the water

4 wheels on the road is still better then 3

  • @ultimatefantasy1 Lol I don't have a Corrado and I don't want it I'm just saying that you are wrong! And you can accept it or not, but that's it. I got a Clio which doesn't lift its wheel but you can be pretty sure that a Civic type-R (that does lift its wheel a lot) handles WAY better than my Clio! Anyways, think what you like, we live in a free world. But physics are not opinions! So you are just wrong ;P

  • @Mawerik024 and thats why in car racing they tune the suspesnion so it stays on the ground, becasue they got handling grip

  • @ultimatefantasy1 Obviously you've never watched WTCC. Or Formula 1. Or Rally. Or any kind of motorsport apart from ovals. Where the wheels don't lift just because there aren't any bends. You're making it worse every word you say...

  • @Mawerik024 freaking idiot i wathced rally even the ones of 80,s and they still diddnt lift the inner backwheel so dont talk shit

  • @ultimatefantasy1 Obviously I was talking about rally on tarmac... Not on the gravel... God I thought that was obvious enough... At this point let's start with the bets: you're american and 13. lol

  • @Mawerik024 hahaha im american hahaha IM DUTCH dickhead and car mechanic so dont come and talk shit to me, the car makes torsie when it moves and that bad, for grip and the car body

  • @ultimatefantasy1 Nothing to laugh being not american doesn't play in your favour cause you have less excuses to be ignorant. Being a mechanic doesn't mean knowing laws of physics. For them you got to be a physicist or an engineer. Which I happenly almost am. Of course the car wrenches in the bends, infact lifting a back wheel can be considered a proof that the chassis is very rigid so it's a GOOD thing. I repeat. Watch any wtcc clip, any tarmac rally, any F1 race. Want the links?

  • @Mawerik024 i can realy tell you only know theorie but nothing in reality, go on in life with you stupidity. im done with you bullshit and dont wann waste any more energie on your pointless comment on me.

sooo go fuck yourself and have a fine day.......

  • @ultimatefantasy1 Ok ok. Even if you think motorsport is "theory" or "bullshit", I'll stick with it if you don't mind. You've lost an opportunity to learn something. Bye

  • @Mawerik024 hahaah to learn something yes i would learn bullshit ooh well finaly you shut up

  • That it so gay how the Limiter is at 6250, but the Redline shows 7 grand.

  • Nice.... you can't beat the corrado golf G60 and the polo G40 ;-)

  • Best car VW ever made to date. Brilliant!

  • re-release please vw

  • which is faster the 16v or the g60?

  • @gsxrful 16v is the base model naturally aspirated 4 cylinder (not available in the US I think), G60 4 cylinder supercharged is faster, then there's the vr6 witch is a v6 more powerful (slightly) but heavier.

G60 is the best imho but others will bring up some of the reliability problems of the G60's supercharger.

  • 3 wheels=worrying

    Great car though!

  • @jsuttonus Virtually every front drive hatch out there does that. Every golf gti including the current version, the focus rs, clio sport 200, civic type r etc all lift their inside rear under hard cornering. It does look scary but actually in a front driver where 75% of the weight is in the front it helps the car turn in and minimise understeer.

  • 3 wheels=worrying

  • The best car of VW history.

I love mi VR6 Rrado, hardcore machine.

Please VW, make a new Corrado.

  • @V4rVendetta Really its the worst car vw ever put all its bad ideas into but i love my 93 SLC !!!

  • Love how this spent mosst of its time on 3 wheels in this video!

  • I owned a red Corrado when I turned 22 on my b-day. I got my DL suspended. My insurance premium was more than my monthly payment, but I loved it!

    I missed my Corrado...

  • I -3 my vr6 corrado

  • i love my corrado

  • Tiff must have hit puberty in reverse...

  • nagrywane łyżką

  • Having had a 1.8i, a G60 and a VR6 - three different cars all just amazing

  • 3 wheelin' all day

  • vhs pwns bluray :D

  • They really were bloody quick, those cars. Especially on the five star leaded jungle juice of the day.

  • i respect Tiff, being an amazing driver, but hes so annoying to listen too lol

  • Hungary!!!!!!!

  • What ever happened to William Woodward?? I miss him on Top Gear.

  • i have a 1990 g60 i love it and i got it for nothing from my buddy. He though i would have it for a few weeks and it would die.ive had it for 2years now and its still running.

  • Gotta love VHS records...

  • Had a MK1 Scirocco,and still got my VR6 Corrado,both top cars.

  • Stop saying "indeed"!

  • VR6 was great. G60 was awesome. Lighter engine makes it more nimble in corners and G60 was only slightly less powerful then VR6.

  • @zabijaq123 Now watch the SLC vr6 Top Gear video.... they concur the vr6 is much better & the best handling & braking back then. Vr6 has much more potential :)

  • @zabijaq123 Not to mention the sound of the vr6... that alone is reason enough

  • I owned a 1.8 16v; great to drive when it worked. Unreliable bugger of a thing, could not be kept in tune. It was stolen on September 11 2001 and never recovered. Considering a new bonnet was £600 it was probably broken for parts. Oh, the rear wing creaked when it activated.

  • lol easy to steer and good in corner.... YOUR DRIVING IN 3 WHEELS... lol but indeed great car

  • it's too bad that the corrado selfdestructed by being too expensive, really a great car

  • @Alekpowah

You can get a good one now for only 4K, depending on where you live obviously. :D

  • i had a 1990 G60 for a few years with all the usual bolt ons like under drive pulley chip etc. They are too heavy to be agile and eat through front tires at an alarming rate if driven hard.

Great GT car though [ no surprise since that what they were made to be ]

Very expensive car to freshen up and really not worth the cost to do so.

VR6 cars were a tad better but they are prone to eating themselves when driven hard [first gen water jackets] and they still didn't handle due to the weight.

  • this is old uhuhuhh

  • i have yet to put my rado in an understeer slide.

  • holy shit you can go on 3 wheels with it

  • @crzygutrsnobrdr VW is famous for picking up the inside rear tire

  • I owned a G60 Corrado from about 2000 to 2003. Loved the car, hated the maintenance bills-- cost a lot to keep on the road. Lived in fear of the G-charger self-destructing, as so many did after 120-150Kkm-- instantly turning the nimble beast into a poorly aspirated 1.8L plodder until you can pony up the three grand for a new one.

The VR6 model was really the Corrado's best form.

  • I have that exact corrado :D

  • TIFF NEDELL...while he still had hair...

  • there is one across the street from me

  • i cant watch this ! his fucking voice

  • I miss my G60 :o(

  • Taking corners on three wheels doesn't look so great.

  • We had a G60 just till 2002.. was a very good car:)

  • That guys voice makes me wanna beat his face in.

  • Great cars, both this and the Scriocco always looked better than Golfs. They went like a dogs ass on fire in all!

  • I had an old G-60. I loved it! It had some of those Volkswagen issues, but it was a blast to drive and just a beautiful car. With a Neuspeed suspension and Momo IDEA rims, it was sweet.

  • I got a vr6 why do i hear the fan running once i turn the car off for a little bit i know it cools it down but i never hear this on any other car ( some crazy german thing im guesing?)

  • yeah dude my jetta does the same thing

  • because there is a pump that circulates the antifreeze around and it cools the engine more evenly

  • @devilman76017 - lol. You'll find many cars do that, it has more to do with operating temperatures; the Corrado's engine bay is quite compact so there's not much breathing space or air flow in there; so it runs a little hotter than other cars. There are other factors, but suffice to say it's not necessarily a german only thing.

  • @devilman76017 yea alot of audis have the same thing. smart engineering for the time. cars nowadays dont need it so much because the metals used to make engines can release heat rapidly and heat up slowly.

  • @devilman76017

It did quite often with my Peugeot 306 2.0 XSi 8v Phase 1 (N reg 1996). However my W 2000 reg 16v version of the exact same car does not do this, as the temps never get high enough to trigger the fan.

  • This dude was in the wrong one shud of been thrown in a vr6 not a g60..

  • it was 1988... no VR back then. the VR isn't the ONLY engine worth having

  • its a shame that tiff has driven a G60...hes a cunt

  • WOOT! TIFF!!!!

  • @LEESVIDEOMOVIE

If you still want such a car.

You shod buy one, 1988 i wanted one of these cars und 2 jears ago i bought one.

Still makes lot of fun and ist the oldest and the best car I ever oned.

    Regards

  • Tiff sounds like a driving instructor, nowadays he sounds like he's having his balls tickled.

  • @kebabtank :- Ha! I couldn't put it into words. Nice 1.

  • @kebabtank lmao well said

  • @ 2:30 three wheel drive:P

  • have a vr6... love it... haven't driven a better car yet...

  • eh ill get a foxwagen

  • Tiff looks so young :)

  • what did he do to tha hood on passenger side :O

  • Lift off oversteer.... COOL!!

  • my 1996 2.0 golf went 130mph without a supercharger! but I'd love to get my hands on one of these

  • The Corrado featured in this video, is the ugliest one i've ever laid eyes on. Still an awesome car tho.

  • Go with the VR6 1992-1995 .

  • you'd want the late 1993 onwards cos they have no distributor, much more relaible cos of it.

  • Umm NO, the late VR's with the coil pack are much less relaible, they had more problems than the Dizzy!!!

  • Really? i heard the exact opposite, but i have heard of coil pack problems on the VR6, my one runs fine, only problem i have is my ignition barrel keeps breaking.

  • Haha! My fav vw model of all time and my dad owns a g60 and i have a vr6.. Awesome car and is still amazing! Also, the guy did not close the hood properly in this vid.. Stupid.. haha

  • my neighbor has one of these.

  • Are you sure this is top gear and not fifth gear?

  • its old top gear

  • tiff was host for top gear in old days

  • didnt know vw use to make tricycles 3:26

  • That hood looks a little off for some reason

  • i agree, check at 2.22! not been closed properly?

  • damn high speed three wheeling!

  • is it just me...or is there a BIG gap in the hoodline by the grille

  • i thought so too!!

  • yeah, but i think it was built like that. the hood line sits flush with the edge of the fenders.

  • POLO??? Lol :D

  • Still can't beat a polo.

  • its a bit Phazed as one of the Bonnet clips is sticking up,anyone else notice how it sits askew?

  • Corrado is one of the nicest VW ever!

  • ha ha that foo's a G. he can sure ride the hell out of that corrado. i love my slc corrado! purple :D

  • Such a great looking car, surprised to hear it is quicker than an rx7?

  • Mad, this was before even Captain Clarkson joined top gear! Unbelievable that Tiff was there a year before him! lol. U think of clarkson as the eternal representative figure of top gear

  • well why do you think people watch top gear over fifth gear, even that bird on fifth gear used to be on top gear, top gear will always be better than fifth gear in my opinion

  • true but they are different now top gear is basically james richard and clarkson mucking about thats why everyone watches it where as fifth gear does some proper reviews

  • god damn that looks dangerous... i hope it doesnt look like that when i corner...actually i could feel the lift in the rear in my jetta before i got lowering springs now its more prone to sliding and then the torque pulls it out from the apex really quite balanced feeling

  • I remember when cars used to handle like that. It looks almost scary these days as it bounces round but in those days it was top class.

  • the car is brilliant, even now

  • ahahhaha i was born in 1988 and this shit was the newest of the newest

  • Lmao.

    Young Tiff.

    Classic.

  • the corrado has always been sortof soft...I've owned a VR6, and still never really understood what the fuss was about. It is a hell of a good looking car though

  • Totally agree

  • The Corrado is a classic. A lot of VW cars lift a rear wheel at hard cornering, forexample Golf GTI Mk 1 and 2 but nevertheless they remain stabile in their behaviour.

  • dodgy bonnet - nice sounding car though, spose it's the supercharger. This was when Tiff COULD stop grinning

  • tiff was the best driver out of the bunch, look at him 3 wheelin!

  • Weekendoff your very welcome.

  • no probs! thank you for the upload!

  • whats with the suspension of that car??? whats it riding on?? BALLOONS :S

  • really, I agree...

In the corner it becomes a tripod... :)

  • so this is top gear? tiff was on top gear at one point??

  • yep, Tiff were on it for years, along with Chris Goffey, Quentin Willson and Jeremy Clarkson were all on top gear. Clarkson quit around 1999, Top Gear went crap, was axed in 2002. Clarkson came back with the new format and Tiff etc all went off to fifth gear.

  • Thank you Weekendoff saves me writing all of that :)
