the previous owner beat the shit out of it. i had to have the trans. rebuilt, new clutch, new shifter, new trans mount, new u joints, and new motor mounts at just over 100k miles
Ahh another Proud Product of Ford. This is one of the main reasons why I will never ever, ever, EVER!!! Own a car that bears the big blue warning label ever again. I see more Fords in my shop with engine and transmission failures then I do Dodge & Chevy. I have rebuilt my fair share of their transmissions. They just use cheap parts. Good designs that should last forever, just cheap parts. I used to love Ford, I would race them till the sun would come down, not anymore.
i hear ya. the actual design of the trans. is pretty strong but the parts used are horrible. it's just like the infamous t-5. the only good trans. made for the mustang is the t-56 6 speed.
i broke a shift fork. that's why it is stuck in 1st gear. the stcok t-5 and t-45 trannies are not good for racing or anything. the only way to prevent this is to get an aftermarket shifter with shift stops so you don't bend/break the shift forks.

Your 1st/2nd fork is broke and that why you cannot shift second and no other gear want to shift and bug the engine.
