  • @pro5802 Your technique is not entirely correct. I am an indian (hindu too) and have seen the indian strongmen (pehelwans) do this exercise all my life.

    - You are doing it in straight lines

    - Instead do it such that - as you come down and go up - feel the strech on each part of your body (starting from the outstreched hands and on your shoulders, then tthe chest, stomach and most imp the area below the stomach and above the reproductive organ (nabhi region - also known as the 'root')....

  • @pro5802 You aren't doing the Hindu pushup properly. Breathe out when you go back to the mountain pose (the start of the pushup) and inhale as you rise from the floor.

  • The way it was explained to me is that a divebomber airplane does not go into reverse after it drops its bomb it gains altitude again and the Hindu push-up is supposed to be like a pendulum in its movement, skim along the floor going forward and skim along the floor going backwards. But the name of an exercise isn't anything I'm passionate about enough to make a huge argument. It's just how it was explained to me.

    The Hindu pushup has been around for a long time. It is a traditional exercise for traditional Indian wrsetlers. It is alleged the great Gama would perform 2000 Hindu pushups every day.

  • Those are called dive bombers, we do those for physical training sometimes in the Army. They're easier than normal push ups. It's all inertia.

  • This is a watered down yoga Sun Salutation --- just down dog to up dog without pausing thru cobra.

    You're supposed to use your arms/shoulders to push back to down dog the way you came... this is a weight-bearing stretch and doing it too quickly can cause injury to the novice... GO SLOWLY at 1st ...

    Every one of these "Hindu Pushups" I've seen on YouTube has "cheated" on the way back up... just do yoga --- Sun Salutation... 5,000 years of success can't be wrong!

  • This is a "dand pranam" and has been practiced in akharas all over India for hundreds of centuries. Indian wrestlers do these, uthak-bethak, AS WELL AS surya namaskars. Please do some research before you post something like this.

  • Cheat, is like truth relative. Indian wrestlers and Kimuras' judoka are doing 600 "cheats" a day, so results come regardless.

  • Actually, they are supposed to be done with feet close together, whether this guy knows it or not. This provides for the best achilles tendon stretch anyone can do unassisted. Also, hindu push ups are traditionally done breathing only through the nose and backwards to the conventional, modern way of breathing during exercise. That is, exhaling when you "curl up" and inhaling when "lengthen". Hindu squats are supposed to be done in the same way. That's the way they did them back in Gama's day.

  • @Morthica you can do them either way. Feet wide is good for beginners but you can put them closer together to make them tougher and also give more of a stretch to your calves. Then, to further advance them you can put your feet closer to your hands. Hope this helps :)

    Normal pushups work the chest and arms, so what about these?

  • they make you exercise in different angules and that's the big thing about it.even the legs get a good workout(if you know to do it right)

  • @SnowdogChain114 chest and arms but also works the shoulders and legs more than regular pushups. It gives the spine a nice stretch and as with all pushups, works the abs (though not as much as ab specific exercises).

  • Well it's all just linguistics but actually this is a sequence of «down dog» and «dog up» positions in basic yoga, that was later repackaged as «dive bomber» but it's just yoga.

  • hindu pushup and its variations are one of the best workouts. much better than the regular pushup and the variations IMHO

    The big error when it comes to breath intake is holding your breath, most guys do it when exerting force.

    you need to have your lungs mostly full of air when pushing outward. it provides outward pressure inside your body, supporting it. you can hold your breath, so long as you exhale at the "top," or you can "power breath" (letting out a little air- that hissing noise you hear a lot), but still exhale the rest at the top. opposite direction, breathe in.

    people get injured from not breathing correctly.

    dont give advice if you dont know.

  • legs r suposta b farther than shoulder with and ur elbows should get REALLY close to the ground on the dip..

  • these are more effective if you look up at the sky at the end of the movement, that works the neck and strengthens the spine more. other than that, top exercise. if you can do fifty of these straight you are in pretty good shape.

  • you won´t heard everytime whats really effective as in martial arts you won´t be able to hear a technique that really works.

  • Yes, they are effective. They are great for shoulder mobility and overall flexibility. I find them a little easier on the arms than regular pushups, but that is probably because I do them a bit slower. There is no single perfect exercise, but these are excellent for me.

  • this is the best uper body exercise that one can do. they will turn your body into a rock hard slab of muscle but they need to be done everyday and with proper form.

  • you could go a little lower , also are u exhaling and the end of cobra, ur supposed to inhale while stretching back. You exhale while returning to mountain pose. Its difficiutlt to tell from the video whether ur inhaling or exhaling
