I like how you get wings to lay in the right place. I have been trying to do them that way. Still not as easy as you make it look but I'm working on it. Love your videos.
Just wondering, where do you get your size 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0 salmon hooks? I've looked around for a while and can't seem to find any. Really like the fly by the way!
A cracking fly! I have admired these Spey type flies, but have never seen anyone fish them. My local river has lots of slow water and sluggish pools. My favorite fly for this water is a Bann Special Shrimp, which has done exceedingly well for me. Thing is, I notice many of the properties I like in the Bann Special in the Spey flies - Mobility! Do you ever fish these for Atlantic salmon? They look fragile - how do they stand up to spey casting - do the wings come apart?
I have fished these flies but a lot smaller than the one in the video as most of our fishing is in the summer months. You'll find these flies will last as long as any other as long as you cross rib them like in the video...
Hello, well I learned today that Spey is a river in Scotland, which I didn't know that before. Anyways I really enjoy your videos, keep up the great work, thanks from the USA.
I notice in your fly and many i see in shops the heads are bright, shiny and hard. I finish mine with head cement and they never quite look like that. I have also tried clear nail polish. What do you finish your heads with?
What I do to get the strongest and glossy head is to apply a first coat of loctite superglue which seals the thread turns, then apply two coats of varnish over 24 hours the varnish will be completely dry by this time..
I can't thank you all enough for all the kind comments about the Spey Fly, it's a pattern I really like to tye and not forgetting that they catch fish as well, it means a lot...
This is my first comment ever. I have been tying flies for 20+ years, and you make tying such a beautiful fly look so effortless. I can only hope by watching your techniques over and over, that someday I'll be able to come close to making any fly I tie, look 1/2 as good as yours do! Thanks for the great videos.
You just amaze me Davie you can take a few materials and a hook and turn them into something most of us can one day hope to be able to ty. And that isnt just this fly but all of your flies.
Hi Davie, What can i say, another perfect presentation i agree with johnathanakr you really have been spoiling us, we appreciate all the time you spend sharing your talents with us, many thanks Regards Alan
