  • just a question....is this qld con?

  • @dlgowns127 Yes.

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • el concierto lo toca hermoso...pero el esta aun mas hermoso..=D

  • Very nice. Especially like the light touch for this Mozart. You have a fine modest style, easy to listen to for a long long time. Wish you the best, from another horn player.

  • great!!!!

  • I'm in love!

  • Thanks!

  • Is it a problem that I don't hold my horn up when I play? I prefer to play it on my knee, but are there any advantages to holding it up while playing?

  • @Leafpool46 That wouldn't make a difference unless you twisted your body very much so as to osruct air flow from the lungs, which is highly unlikely.

  • how do you reach note higher than high g? i played for a year, but i don't seem to grasp it

  • @WatchinVide0 Build up the facial muscles, and work on air pressure and speed. Hard to tell from a distance - your teacher probably would have some good suggestions.

  • @WatchinVide0 play trumpet for a month than go back to the horn.. might work

  • Sounds good! To play at this level, how much time do you practice a day? Do you use the Farkas warm up, something else, or...?

  • @bendix5 Practice time varies now, but I used to do about 5 hours a day. As for technique exercises, I use a combination of many methods, but mainly lip-slurs.

  • @1squidboy: no he was just picked up the French horn and started playing it perfectly.

    ( hint sarcasm )

  • @randompineapple21 I want to be able to practice and play like him, and i've always been told stuff like this just comes naturally when you play things musically and practice, but now I know to spend a majority on technique practice If i want better articulations and things. Holy crap. Who could've guessed that?

  • @1SquidBoy Talent may get you through high school - once you hit university you better be prepared to work very, very hard. When playing the horn very little comes for free.

  • @musicforhorns another question, what is a good mouthpiece to use?

I have a Schilke 30, and I'm wondering if I need to worry about getting a different mouthpiece anytime soon.

  • @1SquidBoy That's impossible to tell without having seen you. I use PHC (Paxman Halstead Chidell), 21A cup and N rim, but you better ask your teacher for advice on this.

  • @musicforhorns Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to look more into it

  • I take it that your beautiful tone and technique come from a large amount of time spent playing?

  • @1SquidBoy Well, probably more from a large amount of time spent practicing, but luckily now it has become more playing;)

  • @musicforhorns could you share some good exercises to help build up good tone and articulations such as yours?

  • @1SquidBoy The tone I mainly developed by listening to myself and practicing until I was happy with it. It's actually still ongoing... Articulation needs to be practiced by just doing it - spend half an hour a day just starting notes, and it should improve.

  • I'm in my middle school band and i play Trumpet, and my mom is going to let me try out for French Horn! She used to play French Horn so she will be teaching me a little. We don't have enough money to BUY or rent one but my school lets you borrow insturments for free!

  • Your tone is so pure.

  • quick question , Do you find a problem with upstream playing?

I have a natural upstream lip structure for playing and my horn teacher it trying to get me to switch to downstream but I can seem to do it.

    any tips?

  • @B4Marchingband Hey, not quite sure what you mean by "upstream playing". The air stream usually goes downwards, but if you can do everythig you want and the sound is good, it doesn't really matter.

  • What is the youtube symhonie? Is that a real orchestra? You play great, grat.! this I've played in my diploma concert.

  • Where are you playing? It's beautiful in there!

  • Oh my gosh, you're sound is so amazing I think I'm going to start crying. You're like a french horn GOD. I have to play like that DX

  • This is like looking in the mirror, make your ears a tad larger and straighten the hair and that is me playing the horn. freaky...

  • for a brass instrument the french horn sounds nice.(this is coming from a bass clarientsit/ saxophoneist) and i normally dont like brass instruments

  • Oh My Gosh that was amazing! Your attacks are all so clean.

Can you please explain that contraption attaching your horn to your seat?

  • @lilpinky0880 mmm im pretty sure its helping him hold it up, because when you play the french horn, you set the big part of it on your thigh, and it starts to hurt after a wihle, so thats a very clever contraption that he has. It also probably increases the quality of the sound.

  • @marichi109 I know late reply lol, but sure it may be that, but anyone serious about the horn also doesn't even let it touch their leg lol. Muffles sound.

  • @lilpinky0880 It's a horn stick. Google Horn Stick for more info (hornstick.nl)

  • sounds beautiful man... sounds like something empowering

  • what type of mouthpiece do you use?

  • @moviesmyway PHC 21A Z cup and N rim

  • @musicforhorns how long have you been playing and do you have any exercises or tips for clean staccato playing? Your's is terrific.

  • @moviesmyway About 14 years now. Staccato - find a combiation of air flow and tongue attack that works for you. Hard to say as everybody is different.

  • What's you advice for lip trills? They're so smooth and rich when you play them and they appear effortless.

  • @Hornitude Thanks! Well, a lot can be said about lip trills. It helps to practice general flexibility, lips slurs and that stuff.

  • fantastic!

  • what horn is that?

  • @Thendrix26 An Alexander 103

  • very nice)))

  • That was fantastic! great playing.

  • that is the rope that is tied horn?

  • Wow! Beautiful tone! Excellent control and musicality 5*****

    Love,

    Diane

  • aii isnt that the con?!?! woah cant wait to go there only two months to go lol I hope to see you man unless you graduated or yeh??....I play classical trumpet by the way but I love the horn the closes thing to that I've ever played is The Eb tenor horn which is the brass band equvalent of the F horn but no way near as sweet and awsome haha as the F horn :p

  • Don't know, it's more of a concept than practice I think. Think of the tone you want, and when practicing concentrate on making it sound as close as possible to it.

  • @musicforhorns that is so true i try that and like when i dont concentrate i dont get the kind of tone i want .

  • Thank you very much.

  • Very well played. I just started band this year and play the French Horn. I LOVE it but I am not the best at high notes. Any tips?

  • Thanks! Build up muscle strength over time and avoid pushing the mouthpice onto the lips. It''ll come eventually.

  • @AmazinAlison123 for high notes my french horn teacher told me three things. Fast air, keep the sides of your lips and bunch them in (without raising your chin at all) and put your tongue up in your mouth as if saying ee. just a couple things he told me.

  • avoid too much pressure, and when you think of higher tension for high range its not smiling, its moving the firmness of the corners closer into the mouthpiece and puckering so you get adequete muscle suppourt into the mpc, after that it is all practising and developing the muscles there

  • I'm New at it and i wanted to know how do you play it fluently?

  • You just keep practicing. It's not always exciting, but has to be done.

  • Wow... How often do they have auditions for the symphony? I honestly think I have a shot at this if i can get my lip trills down

  • Get over yourself kid. you may be playing "the same song" I guarantee you can't play it at this level. Do you have a private lesson teacher? They tend to pick out the best solo's out there. Soo Before you go trying to offend people, i reccomend posting some of your own video's first. Anyone can play a piece of music, it takes a true musician to Present it.

  • good lip trills

  • your incredible

  • I play french horn as well. I'm currently learning the nut cracker and wicked music! I am a thirteen year old and would love to become as good as you one day. Brilliant playing.

  • any tips for a 13 year old french hornist that yes actually tries and practices alot and hopes to make it in this middle school band from all the band members of a Jersey county? =]

  • you play great man

  • im very impressed with Mozart concerto ... its very nice! what is that your using to keep your horn up because i have a problem with by sound being a little wably when i try to play of the leg... but that seems like it would help where did you get it?

  • Paxman's (London) sell it, not sure if they're available in the US. Search for "horn stick", or something like that.

  • Very good

    exellent

  • hi, what mouthpiece do you use?

  • A PHC (Paxman Halstead Chiddell) N rim and 22A cup.

  • i wanna play this. soo bad.. what kind of orn do oyu have?

  • The music is readily available, so go for it! I'm playing an Alexander 103.

  • Great playing, where did you get the music?

  • There are lots of places you can buy it, just google "Mozart horn concerto no.2 sheet music".

  • fantastic

  • Very good interpretation. Heat and passion make it great!

  • you have a great tone...

  • i am playing this and im a sophomore in hs

  • i played this at solo and ensemble my freshman year... i could play it just fine (not as good as this guy) but when i played it for a judge it was a trainwreck! lol

  • and im just saying not being like "THIS IS EASY" because it is not even close to easy. HAHA

  • can you share some horn playing tips for a fellow horn player??? please??? :)

  • In what regard? Maybe PM me with something a bit more specific, and I'll see what I can do.

  • very nice, your articulation is superb!

may i ask what horn you play on?

  • Thank you. It's an Alexander 103.

  • Hey Armin, Congrats from a fellow Con student and FOH worker!

  • Thanks;)

  • bitch what the fuck was that for?

  • no fuck you cause the only thing u can do is sleep and lay your lazy as down i bet you can play a triangle and u get winded going up stairs

  • You should teach our french horns how to play right.

  • it also says other territories... hope they keep us posted on where they are going to film!

  • cool. let's keep checking.

    Nice intonation, Good interpretation.

  • Very nice playing! Love the juicy slurs!

  • HORNSTICK!

  • Yeah, that's what you get for practicing too much AND having back problems. I'd recommend getting one sooner rather than later.

  • Really nice playing dude!
