Japan may be a spec of islands but the fault lines (and that's FOUR TECTONIC PLATES ALL LYING BELOW JAPAN) it lies upon are not. An earthquake that size will cause global changes, no matter how small the land you see above the water. The shoreline changed, Japan is now closer to the US, and I'm pretty sure caused the axis to shift a slight amount. The Chilean earthquake also did so. Not because of the size of the country but because FAULT LINES ARE HUNDREDS OF MILES LONG.

I'm right now an exchange student in Japan.
I was supposed to arrive a few days after the earthquake, but because of it, it was delayed by half a year.
I've been here now for over 2 months, and they're still talking about the disaster in the television. This weekend I traveled to a northern side of Japan called "Ibaraki", the tsunami didn't hit that place though, but the damage caused by the earthquake can still be seen, and they're still repairing the roads and rooftops.

m aunt told me a true story about this tsunami an how there was a little girl and her family watching the water being sucked from the beach because the tsunami is collecting water so the water is pushing back and they were all like wow! thinking it was beautiful not even knowin it was a stunami and the little girl told her parents its a tsunami they didnt believe her til they saw the wave an they ran sadly the little girl didnt survive but her family did she saved her familys lives and lost hers

Japan may be a spec of islands but the fault lines (and that's FOUR TECTONIC PLATES ALL LYING BELOW JAPAN) it lies upon are not. An earthquake that size will cause global changes, no matter how small the land you see above the water. The shoreline changed, Japan is now closer to the US, and I'm pretty sure caused the axis to shift a slight amount. The Chilean earthquake also did so. Not because of the size of the country but because FAULT LINES ARE HUNDREDS OF MILES LONG.

@nikomida Let me just say, its the Tilting that cauases the Earthquake in the first place not the other way round. Get a a brick and a piece of wood, the brick wont move until you tilt the wood. The Media say its the Earthquakes that cause the tilting of the axis! They have it the wrong way round for sure. Earthquakes are caused by many other facters as well and have different causes some are volcanic. Fault lines could be thousands miles long if you add them all up. Good comment! Thanks
