I remember doing a paper on Sara Baartman while in high school, For personal reasons, I was always embarassed for the way I was "buildt" It was basically for a self esteem project, now I embrace my womanly curves and would NEVER trade it for anything else. But if you compare the way in which white women are viewed in the media to the way women of color are, you'll notice that there is a big difference. White women are often shown with more of their "class" intact, while women of color are often animalized or turned into stereotypes that are fetishized (i.e. the ghetto vixen or geshia role).

I've dated a number of black women.. oddly these were the healthiest relationships I've had. No real answer for that.. just happened that way. Also - black women ARE NOT "the #1 whores" as you claim. The vast majority of sexualized female images in media on the whole are of white women. And black media has also successfully portrayed black women in wholesome ways.

Thank you so much for this video, it's very sad, but informative. I'm a white woman, and I absolutely HATE to see the objectification of any woman, regardless of her race. But the fact that women of color are so often hyper-sexualized by the media disgusts me. Whether it's black women in rap videos, or Asian women playing the stereotypical "geshia" role. All of it is extremely racist and exploitative, and another example of white privilege.

But if you compare the way in which white women are viewed in the media to the way women of color are, you'll notice that there is a big difference. White women are often shown with more of their "class" intact, while women of color are often animalized or turned into stereotypes that are fetishized (i.e. the ghetto vixen or geshia role).

I've heard of her before, but this portrayal isn't entirely accurate. She was paraded around as an art piece, but slavery was in full force way before she was taken from her home. Europe was using blacks as slaves without using her as an excuse.

Thanks for posting. Seen this before but well worth the tuff watch again. For what it's worth - here's my white male perspective. I've dated a number of black women.. oddly these were the healthiest relationships I've had. No real answer for that.. just happened that way. Also - black women ARE NOT "the #1 whores" as you claim. The vast majority of sexualized female images in media on the whole are of white women. And black media has also successfully portrayed black women in wholesome ways.

I am white and I feel ashamed when I see what other white people have done, to the point of crying, but I am really sorry for all this. I know my words won't probably make any change but it is worth a try.
