  • Tripping on this right now

  • I NEVER KNEW THAT MY FAVORITE JOHNNY HATES JAZZ SONG ACTUALLY BELONGED TO SHALAMAR!!!!!!! FUCKING THIEVES!

  • OMG, wouldn't that be just too nice! 30's, 40's or 50's, I don't think that there is a man alive who could do that!

  • Baby, i can make you feeeeeeeel good..

  • Fantastic great song. You don't here them those days anymore!

  • de nombreux souvenir,ça c est de la music, mes meilleurs anneès

  • Thank my ma and pa bringing me up with this awesomenes!!!!!! x

  • i miss this group so much. love this song to bits!

  • Le plus beau du funk !!! la meilleure musique, j'adooooreee

  • the risk made me listen to 'a night to remember' and therefore listen to this!:) thumbs up!

  • @24davidowens Yeah same same!!!

  • éxcéllent du caviar !!

  • oh such wonderful memories listening to shalamar

  • Right about now a job can make me feel good.

  • Enough of the thumbs up...Great music like this will never die. It's up to us that grew up with it to preserve it....And I think we've done well at it!!

  • nobody can believe that this cover was done nearly 30yrs ago! jodie looks so cute and if shown this pic today many would not believe it was done before most of the stars we have to day were born..

  • @aitan844 : How can anybody not like Shalamar... yeah Jodie watley was a beauty with stunning shape.... who knows what has become of her now.

  • @omoibile i think she might stil be performing, goes to show just how the music industry is today, its all about gimmicks and shock value rather than pure harmonies and music you can feel good about..

  • @aitan844 : So right sis.

  • @aitan844 @omoibile And I might add Jody ended up with more hits and notoriety without gimmicks than Howard as good a singer as he was, no charisma without Shalamar he didn't stack up with guys like Luther, Charlie Wilson Ronnie Isley, Marvin, etc all had hits

  • @nuthinbutclassics Yeah, these guys will aways stand the test of time.. cant believe its thirty yrs since i saw them perform.. "tempus fugit" indeed..lol!

  • @aitan844 One thing do agree with is your statement of GIMMICKS and SHOCK value that has given so many Untalented people, so much to execute a career. The 1980's and early 90's was the time of the SUPER DIVAS where there was no GIMMICKS, but creativity, originality and talent that allowed an artist to build a name, as well as a career and Jody was amongst the SUPER DIVAS (Whitney, Tina, Anita, Sade, Janet, Annie Lennox, and others) that opened doors for today's...(YAWN) ladies of LACKLUSTER!

  • @aitan844 today's music industry has changed for the worst, Jody has continued growing in a field that LONG stopped evolving since the days of sampling music. Jody has created a distinctive sound with each new CD, always re-branding her package that of Jody Watley. I've watched this young lady from my days as a Solar employee grow as she developed Shalamar from the inside choreographing dance moves, designing the trio's stage costumes & image, but without her my question is, where are THEY?

  • @1973cleopatrajones : Oh I forgot to say thank you for the information. It's quite refreshing to know about Jody Watley.

  • @omoibile you're very welcome for the information, dear, any time. One thing is for sure. I see you've corrected yourself in the proper spelling of her name! So, thank you! :-)

  • @aitan844 I, like others, enjoyed Shalamar. They were my favorite... back THEN, but i can't praises a group that hasn't charted past 1985 during a time when the R&B community acknowledged them to be no more than glorified DISCO singers, or has anyone forgotten? Well, Boo,guess what? I haven't! What concerts Shalamar ever headlined to be held so highly in the annals of ones musical intellect for the group to be worshiped, but a key member's history become so unattached? Operative word: HITS!

  • @1973cleopatrajones i saw them live when they came to nigeria to perform at lagos university auditorium and they were on point and totally professional.. over thirty yrs later i still remember that day..

  • @aitan844 Shalamar may not have had the preeminent acclaim as let's say the Jackson family, O'jays, or even the Gap band, but one thing for sure, the trio was always precise, well dressed and totally professional, and that too, due to the foresight of Miss Watley and what contributions she lent the group. This was the driving point of the group that present, and mid-term versions of Shalamar failed to uphold, only to be turned into HAS-BEEN waste!

  • @aitan844 I loved the group tight harmonies, Jody's duets with Howard's and Gearld Brown's soulfulness and Jody's coloring pop appeal that, like what Diana Ross did for the Motown sound, Watley did for Solar blending a perfect marriage with Leon Sylver's producing. But, that was over 30 yrs ago. How long can one capitalize on past nobility, living in a time capsule and waiting on lightening to strike twice? "I can make you feel good" WAS a great song, But I'd enjoy a hit or two from them now!

  • @1973cleopatrajones true, a current hit would be nice but the world that these beautiful harmonies came from has changed, the music industry isnt the one that spawned such groups and just prefer to enjoy their past glories myself as they bring back such good memories for me and as for jodie ,howard and jeffery i wish them nothing but the best ....

  • @aitan844 I agree the world has changed, but there are groups like the Time and Charlie Wilson and others from that era that the music industry have taken interest, who are getting air-play of their NEW MATERIAL. But it's nice to know you're settled into a relaxed status of your past, but YOUR thread of conversation was not about the songs as much as it was an inquiring of J.O.D.Y.'s where about "of what's she's up to now?" The internet has this lil' thing called Google. It works wonders!

  • @1973cleopatrajones thanks for the tip! lol! yep Google works magic!

  • @1973cleopatrajones and @aitan844 *interjecting* since you two know more about this band than I do -can explain to me why Shalamar did not sue Johnny Hate Jazz for their hit 1987 "I don't want to be your hero". I found "I can make you good" today (I'm a Canadian and was 12 when Shalamar's song was on the charts) and do not know it. But I do know Johnny Hate Jazz's song and I can tell you that the music is *EXACTLY* the same. How did this happen without anybody noticing?

  • @aitan844 with the announcement of Shalamar regrouping (with no original members at all) this time with Howard, Carolyn Griffey ( De'lisa Davis' replacement) and Jeffrey's replacement, Micki Free maybe there's that chance of lightening striking twice. Mmm... yeah right! I think I'll take my rod, go to the Pacific and split the waters if anyone believes this version of Shalamar can shake up the music industry. But, be encourage @altan844 you'll always have your 30 yrs ago memories to cherish!

  • @omoibile I believe you "who knows what has become of..." is more befitted for Shalamar since the group last hit charted in the decade of 1980's-I forgot! Jody (the correct spelling, but I'm sure that was a cut!) has concord hits in many categories pop, RandB, dance, adult contemporary, jazz from 1987-2006. She was the only member of the trio that was invited (by the First lady) to perform at the White house. Now, you'd like to rephrase your statement?

  • @1973cleopatrajones : Good to hear JODY WATLEY is still very much around. I'm a nigerian like aitan844. Shalamar was a household name and their music was top chart hit in Nigeria back then. We still have Jeffrey Daniel coming to Nigeria to engage in the music industry there. Recently he was on the panel of judges of Nigeria Idol Contest 2011. We didn't get to hear any news about Jody Watley and the rest. of the group as we do of Jeffrey. I will like Shalamar to come back again.

  • @omoibile well, my message just wasn't directed at you, but others as well. I've know about Jeffrey's work in your country, and like Jody, others from Solar are proud of his contributions but when it comes to conversation of STRONG women and their trail blazing careers, men tend to consider them as second class and from the dictation of your post your opinions WEREN'T lost in translation and I felt the need that WE as fans should keep all facts straight. And by the way, I love Nigeria!

  • @omoibile during my days employed at Solar Shalamar, liked the Supremes for Motown WAS the premier group for the stable but to make statements as if Jody no longer existed in the music business and her name only to be mentioned, not Jeffrey's or Howard's seems suspicious and smelling in Denmark. I'm more than sure since you follow music you're well aware of a lil' magazine called Billboards? it's world wide and all Jody's past & present historical moments have been charted. Check it out!

  • @omoibile until this Shalamar regroup and find a direction and no longer live on the memory of 30 years ago history (especially since a memory can't earn you cash dividends at the bank) there may be hope to recapture their glory just one more time, but performing at your local dive on 'TACO TUESDAYS' ain't gonna get'cha there. So, until I hear a NEW song, see a NEW video, this group may as well be found on the side of a Milk carton asking the public "HAVE YOU SEEN ME?"

  • @1973cleopatrajones : Point of correction, Jeffrey actually was the judge in 2010. I'm sending one of his videos urging Afroamericans to come visit West Africa..You can find more of his vid here on youtube.

    /QJXft2CIJ6w

  • @omoibile I understand you point of correction, but the post thread was not about Jeffrey, it was about a sexist comment that was made of Jody and about the Oh-so-long-ago-hits of Shalamar, so my rebuttal was "Where's Shalamar and the NEW hits? Bye, dear!

  • Those were the days!!

  • Great song- but no live performance or video? Still 1982 gold.

  • Why do i like this song?

  • i love this song,it's so beautiful!

  • God, how I hate the 21 century.

  • Back then they use to have very good records and compact disks covers. All these record albums back then had artistry and flash, now compact disks just look like crap with only the artist face on them.

  • @seckzmachine I think that would only make you the third idiot buddy. I even wonder how you found yourself on this channel asshole!! You have must have missed the links you were looking for....

  • @ThePragmo i like shalamar... i just dont like gay comments. Some people might not like the same music as you. Who cares if children listen to justin bieber? You don't have to listen to him. For example... You're a fag right?... don't be mad at everyone else for not being fags. Suck dick on ur own time, and dont act like suckin dick and takin it up the ass is the only way to live.

  • @seckzmachine No need for profanities. I get the point...

  • OMG, How I love this song, & Ohhh what a crush I had on Miss Jody Watley!!! Irresistable, timeless & classsy, 80's Smooth Soul at it's very, VERY, best. Wolfsky9

  • One of the best disco bands that was around....Check out our own 70's disco band "FREAK OUT Disco Band"....our mission is simple to keep 70's disco alive and carry on delivering great arrangements of the classics.....check out ......freakoutdiscoband.co.uk There is a link to Facebook and under "band profile" you can download the tracks....Enjoy and "Like Us"....Thanks!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • Hittin yo' head wih some FUNK!

    NICE : )

  • @leaualorin The old paradigms are crumbling my friend. Together we can create something better.

  • @leaualorin My friend, whilst we have enemies on Earth, we also have all kinds of help coming in from benevolent forces also. You are not a biological mistake, you are an expression of universal consciousness within a corporeal body that is existing in this particular plane in time. The Earth is changing, and we are evolving, the NWO would like to prevent this from happening - but we are going to stop them.

  • Before cRAP music there was real sophisticated music.

  • Good times

  • yeah, similar sample like johnny hates jazz...still it's a little bit better :)

    fu&%ing coool...

  • "Mickey Free was the new cat in Shalamar, and when Mickey Free joined, mad cats was like 'yo, you seen that new girl up in Shalamar? She fine like a mofucka'"

  • lol sounds like johhny hates jazz : i don't want to be a hero

  • @InsaneKiddo91 me

    gusta la de johnny

  • @InsaneKiddo91 I think Johnny Hates Jazz sampled it for their "Turn Back The Clock " album in 1987.

  • Looking at Jody's legs make me feel good.

  • makes me move my shoulders and wiggle my hips every time!

  • It's very hard to find good music like this on the radio these days >.<

  • This song makes me feel good. It's very nice and happy.

  • the two idiots that don't like this song are into justin beiber and hannah montana.

  • @ThePragmo so true bud

  • @ThePragmo i gave this video a 3rd dislike to make ur gay comment irrelevant.

  • @ThePragmo 3 NOW JUSTIN HAS DISS LIKED IT ! ;( HATER

  • @ThePragmo too right ThePragmo commercial crap with no soul

  • These must've been good times. Although we cannot bring back the time period, the music will always live on through us! Even though I'm 18, I still enjoy music like this. Thanks to my parents getting me into this type of music at a young age. I appreciate that now! :)

  • shows todays music writers and singers just how it should be done .....

  • I'm only 23, but I remember my mother and auntie singing along to this and blasting it through the stereos when I was little. I am so glad I grew up knowing music like this, because I much prefer it to the bollox they call "music" these days. Sorry, but I just can't get into the majority of the new, commercial tunes they have nowadays. :/

  • Me likes (:

  • oh, so damn good!!!

  • oh, so dam good!!!

  • Lead vocals are by Howard Hewitt. Jeffrey Daniel couldn't sing...

  • @crimpoleneman Real talk it was Jody Watley wit Jermaine Stewart and Leon Sylvers/ Those in the know is clear that Jeffrey didn't really sing or play instruments

  • @plussizedgoddess Leon didn't sing background on this album nor did Jermaine Stewart Jermaine was just a back-up singer on tour with Shalamar. Leon didn't sing Jeffrey's vocals until the last album for Jody and Jeffrey called, "The Look". Listen to Jody Watley's "Unplug" 7 part series on YouTube where she explains what happened.

  • Whose vocals are these on this track Jeffery Daniels or the other guys???

  • @DaBizness13 Jody Watley and Jermaine Stewart (Jeffey Daneils ghost singer) wit leon Sylvers on backgrounds

  • @plussizedgoddess - Thank you... Jermaine Stewart can SING!!! Haven't heard of this Leon Sylvers though :0/

    Thanks again.

  • @DaBizness13 Leon Sylvers was the songwriter/producer/arranger/background vocalist and bassist for all of the acts for Solar records back in the 80's. Plus, he and his siblings were from the 70's Soul group called "The Sylvers" featuring his younger siblings as lead singers(Edmund, Charmaine, Angelia & Foster), he produced there latter day material as well on Solar.Their biggest hits were,"Boogie Fever", "Hotline" and "High School Dance".

  • @DaBizness13 There's an feature of The Sylvers on "Unsung" tonight on TVOne at 10:00pm. You'll have the opportunity to hear about the family group and the music they recorded. You can also check my favorites out for one of their latter day song's on Solar records entitled " Come Back Lover". This song was produced/arranged by their older brother, Leon who also sung background vocals and he played the bass. He was not in the group at this time in '81, but you can hear him clearly on the bass.

  • @DaBizness13 The song is led by Leon's younger brother in the group, Foster. The other older siblings are; James(keyboards), Ricky(lead-guitar), Angie & Pat on vocals.

  • @plussizedgoddess Jeffrey didn't need a ghost singer. He's on a live version of "Friends" where he does lead and a live vocal version with background music tracks of "A Night To Remember" and a live band version of the same song; with Jermaine singing back-up where you can hear all four voices in harmony. Both versions are on YouTube. Look at my playlist.

  • @DaBizness13 Jeffrey Daniels and Jody Watley are the background vocals.

  • Let me lay this good love on ya ;-)

  • Dit is funk van de bovenste plank............Jody Watley mag er ook zijn!!!!!

  • good song i love this song

  • So pure and soulful.. really mis that these day's.

  • I GET GOOSEBUMPS WHEN EAR THIS SONG

  • The coolest group and I was a Mod back in the day as well, best not own up to that!

  • OMG, Jody Watley!!!! Wolfsky9

  • Shalamar - the kings of the 80's dance floor!

  • nicely made!!

  • I wore this record out!! Great Tune

  • This sound really belongs in the seventies. The thing that gives away its actual age is the sound of the synthesizer. Great toon!!

  • @missswearerify

Actually music in the early 80s was pretty much similar to late 70s , except most of the string and trumpets were replaced by synthsizers.

  • Check Kavana's cover. Its pretty damn too!

  • This is the song I fell in love with off this album--I loved the arrangement, Howard Hewett's vocal and the great harmonious background singing of Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel.

  • bad tune

  • Hey where's the autotuner? I need the autotuner! ;P
