The 3 hour movie (with English sub-titles) is available new from Amazon.com for about $15. If this is your genre it's well worth it! There are many extra features on the DVD about the bombing of Dresden and how the film was made. Fabulous.
Look here: "Dresden John Light Felicitas Woll 6 tendresse ninon max raabe.wmv" on my channel . I send a video with the song : "Ninon" singing by the German singer: Max Raabe.
The authors of the music and text: Walter Jurmann, Bronislaw Kaper like many other endangered artists and intellectuals, moved to France in 1933 after Hitler came to power and in 1935 emigrated to the United States.
Sorry for my english! I am French and y speak better german!
@TheMPangloss HEY CLONE!!!! YOUR ACCOUNT NAME IS NOT CLOSE ENOUGH MINE. Your account is going to be banned.
It was YOU who said: "The Joo's are the children of the devil love from Finland". I DID NOT!!! You did "OurBomberHarris" aka LordGodOfMercy aka mutley0777 aka blockthehood.
Don;t forget that while Dresden was being bombed, V2 rockets were falling on London, made by Holocaust victims in Mittelbau-Dora. 20,000 of them were hung, shot, beaten or starved to death. Dresdeners turned out in their hundreds of thousands to scream "Sieg Heil" when the Fuehrer visited them. They supported bombing London, Rotterdam etc. As long as the bombs were falling on other people. It was a only a war crime when bombs fell on them..10 times more people were killed in Warsaw!
V2 rockets were still falling on London during and after the Dresden raids. They were made by slave labourers in Mittelbau-Dora where 20,000 of them were shot, hung, starved or died from exhaustion (Wikipedia) A war on this scale cannot be conducted withour the full support of the majority of the population to supply the men and make the bullets and bombs. Dresdeners fanatically supported Hitler and screamed Sieg Heil in their hundreds of thousands on his many visits there sowing the wind!
• To keep athe debate balanced, the Dresden bombers took off froma a UK, still being attacked by V2 rockets made in Mittelbau Dora camp where 20,000 people died. 9,000 died from exhaustion and collapse, 350 were hanged. The others were shot or died from disease or starvation. Drseden was left defenceless by the Wehrmacht who removed its AA guns for his own dedence against Russians seeking revenge for what had been done to them by Einsatzgruppen.
The Finnish people are historically schizophrenic and traumatised from WW2 You only have to read the posts made by the Nazi sympathiser pangloss to understand this
..."The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind."...
Swanningaround, Pay No Attention to LordGodofMercy who's clearly an idiot who should go to the library and learn more about what britain really done in the war.
Can't people understand that all German people were not nazi. Most of them were just fighting for their life, as averyone in the WW2.
Come on grow up! It's because of people like you that there is still hatred everywhere nowadays.
I don't wanna hurt anyone by saying this, I just want people to realize that in WW2 everybody was fighting people they were asked to fight ! (I'm not refering to creepy nazi, but to the other part of the popultion)
AS I said, all the English can do now is insult others. No one will follow them. People can right through them, and all they see is conniving and evil. People used to think that WW2 was a battle of good vs evil. Now they realize that there were evil nations and that England was one of them. Now England is just a pathetic little paper tiger which will lose all power once the US ditches it. That time will come.
"The bomber crews thought of German women as vermin to be burnt".
Don't you think that is just a tiny bit of an exaggeration, SwanningAround? I have never heard anybody of that generation say such a thing, and nobody over here would tolerate it.
You pay too much heed to a small pocket of fools from later years who enjoy gloating about the war. Remember that the internet is the only place they can get away with it, so you will see more there than you would in real life.
There you are again. Another stunning comment. Your mastery of dull witted foolery is exemplary. First rate bigoted arrogance mixed with Anglophobic twoddle. Well done
LordGod. It is not "foolery" as your English like to say. This is a serious matter to the many of us in rest of the world other than the England. You people have no idea how disgusted decent people are with your callousness and brutality. I am quite frankly appauled that you turn discussions of these horrible crimes into a laughing matter and one to insult those who have the courage to stand up to your country's might and power. People should do so more. In reality England is a paper tiger.
Sara. It just seems unlikely. Think of it. When the bombs were dropping on Dresden, he would have only been interested in his mates that were dropping the bombs - that they got safely back home. His total hatred of the Germans, which all bomber crews had, would have meant that he would have tried to kill as many as he could on the ground. He would have been happy at another successful mission by "our boys". That is the truth. A bomber pilot said "we murdered them that night - it was great!".
Sara. I guess that people are still individuals. I am sure that the men in bomber command would disgusted at his attitude - it is treason to act in the way he did, if as you say the film was true. The people of Dresden were at least spared the English invading the city. The city was liberated by the Red Army, who treated the people of Dresden well.
@swanningaround The Red Army treated the people of Dresden well? They are lucky then, because the Red Army raped its way across the rest of the places they "liberated." Maybe by the time they had reached Dresden they had had enough?
hemp. The Red Army raped some women. Common quote from the German women at the time "better to have a Russian on your belly than an English over your head". The English were determined to kill all in the most horrible way they could.
I'm sure this reflects much of the thinking by the RAF bomber crews, but not all. The highly respected historical novel "Bomber," written by Len Deighton ( a Brit ), presents a much more subtle and complex picture of the RAF bomber crews.
n52. It does reflect the thinking of most of them as you say. People like this never change. They remain cold hearted ruthless killers. Damn them to hell.

Great film, but unrealistic. A bomber pilot would never fall in love with a German. The bomber crews though of German women as vermin to be burnt.
