  • The man was a genius when it came to humour... I LOVED him as a child and appreciated him more and more when I studied music.

  • @andy29375 ... show but it's clear it's set up to not be a purely good singer competition even though it's meant to be..

  • @andy29375 a singing competition at all.. And because he puts em through it prevents proper singers from having a chance of gettin to the live shows and the ones who get to the live shows as well anyway cos the public are brats and vote the idiotic acts in just to annoy those who don't like them.. Plus you have to pass 3 separate auditions before going infront of Louis and co but yet Jedward, Wagner and Johnny got that far so that just goes to show ya.. Load of rubbish.. I used to defend the sh

  • @andy29375 you're probably right mate unless his x factor judging is all an act but I find myself believing ever more that it's genuine and he's an utter tit... Without the success that Boyzone had and Westlife he'd be nowhere and is an absolute pillock on that show in my book.. Jedward, Wagner, Johnny.. I find it severely coincidental that year in, year out he always gets the category with the ridiculous act(s) in it and ya know he'll put them through.. None of the 3 I mentioned were meant for

  • This is one guaranteed way of both making me laugh and cry in one go. Absolutely love Les when he played the piano off key. There's definitely not been another talented comedian like him since and from the current pick of the bunch, its highly unlikely.

  • Agree above, I just always want to play the right notes, I have tried to emulate this, but kept naturally going to the right keys

  • stunningly hilarious. incredible !

  • Play that to Louis Walsh! He won't even notice the duff notes!!! lol

  • Has anyone got Les Dawson playing Silent Night on piano?

  • For me, it's not just the 'faulty' piano playing (which is a feat in itself) that is the genius behind Les it's the confidence he displays while doing it. There aren't that many people who could make you laugh with this act but his expressions and lack of contrivance wrap it all up perfectly. :-)

  • What a legend Les Dawson was... Truly one of the greats !

  • I have come to the conclusion that videos featuring subjective things such as comedy should have their comments disabled; that way they won't degenerate into "your country is shit" arguments.

If you don't find this skit funny but laugh hysterically at Two and a Half Men (about as funny as a miscarriage), then, umm, you're the kind of person who clearly thinks roadkill is funny. :) Some things are intrinsically funny; some things are not. If you cannot tell the difference, I cannot help you.

  • @sulijoo Well said sir..

  • It's so hard to play it wrong! My music teacher calls me Les Dawson when I screw up lol...

  • He looks and sounds like John Prescott

  • eeh bloody ell

  • The seven people who disliked this just don't appreciate or understand pure comedic talent like Les Dawson

  • @MrLawman10 maybe not to you but that doesn't mean he's not funny at all to everyone

  • ((((X

  • funny ? not sure about that.

  • Les was a classicaly trained pianist he used to fool about on stage but he really could play brilliantly. It takes talent to play out of key

  • Comment removed

  • @alfiesgirluk its doubtful you could play the same tune as in this video... in the right key it'd sound normal so he still needs to know how to play and play well - it'd be so hard to keep playing in the wrong key as the temptation would be to play in the right key so yes, he is very talented and not just anyone could do that - hence why everyone finds it hilarious... If he was genuinely rubbish at playing there wouldn't be a funny aspect to it

  • @TheDiddlysquat I didn't state that you did, but in your last reply you stated 'But you can't call little Britain inventive...' and that's what I am referring to.

  • @TheDiddlysquat I didn't call them inventive.

  • @TheDiddlysquat Little Britain seem to be doing fairly well out of 'fat' jokes and 'blacking up' and 'dressing up like old women'.

  • Hilarious stuff

  • Do you teach music?? I bet the answer is no, you sound like a talent-less idiot who obviously has no idea what you're talking about!

  • It certainly does, I am a teacher of music with over 30 years experience, and it is almost impossible for me to go out of tune like that on purpose, you automatically want to play the right notes, such an extremely talented man was Les

  • @MsBigJohnny

liar there is no talent to playing out of tune its just playing in the wrong key. you if you have been teaching music for over 30 years need to stop teaching and stop spouting such drivel u tool. ive never heard such drivel.

  • @ljs123 johnny you are over flowing with pent up aggression. there are so many internet and you tube hard men around these days. you must even scare yourself..........

  • Ok, maybe i've drank too much fresh orange juice today, but i'm thinking maybe Bill Bailey is the only famous person I know who could do this sketch today with anything approaching conviction? So a biopic of Les Dawson starring Bill Bailey? Could it work or am i going mad?

  • Probably the only thing that guarantees I laugh every single time I see it.............

  • Is it wrong to play this twice daily?

  • @oODJFriendlyOo Never... it's just too funny

  • @oODJFriendlyOo

    Yeh! it is wrong.

You should play it at least a dozen times.

    Cheesy.

  • May the world NEVER forget Les...the brightest star in the firmament that is comedy!!

No other could touch him...and apparently they didn't!! Thank you Les..I'm just glad my years of being there collided with yours...even the stars laughed with you...RIP...

  • awesomely funny :)

  • Love it!!! Love Les Dawson anyway but you just can't NOT laugh when you watch him!! A true comedy legend!!

  • My Dad met him in a hotel bar once on holiday. He said was so unaffected & such a down to earth easy going guy.

  • one of the funniest ever and yes, he was an incredible pianist

  • anyone remember zebediah twine?

  • The guy was pure genius, And i don't use that term lightly, Les really was one of a kind, As they say, They don't make them like that any more!!

  • Analysing comedy is like dissecting a frog; nobody laughs and the frog dies’

  • Watched him a lot on TV in the 70's and 80's and he still makes me laugh now.

Les Dawson was a GENIUS!! XX

  • Brilliant ,Les Dawson was surreal..lol..this piano playing kind of reminds me of something ..lol

  • 10 June 1993.... not forgotten Mr. D. Still as funny :D

  • funny!

  • At the end where he says "Where would we be without good music?", to me he sounds remarkably like Gene Hackman...

  • Man, he's really bad.

How'd he get on the telly?

  • @weavehole ... lol - you have no idea clearly.

  • @weavehole i sincerely hope you are being sarcastic otherwise you need a sense of humor drip applied to you stat!

  • @weavehole youv'e no idea have you?.

  • Les Dawson & Tommy Cooper are still the best

  • ahaha the great les dawson ...everytime i hear him play wrong i laugh...yes you have to be good to be able to play that bad of course..

  • amazing talent!

  • I'm so sure. :O

  • *giggle*

  • I pride myself on my originality of thought and speech.

Has anybody commented yet that it takes a real Professional musician to play the piano this badly?.....

    Oh! all right!:)

  • Word has it its harder to play it wrong than right. I cant play either.

    atisleofskyebloke

  • he looks like susan boyle

  • @hullohulloRFC No he doesn't.

  • funny funny funny, i love him!

  • Sadly missed, I love his Cissie and Ada sketches and Cosmo Smallpiece LOL!!

  • One of the best comedians ever. he ain't offensive [he didn't need to be] and in my opinion he's the best pianist ever. The guy was a genius!

  • @grinners18 He was a genius, only the best musicians can screw a tune up that brilliantly

  • It's been said before but I would like to reiterate..it takes a talented pianist to play that badly.

  • @kingklabe Absolutely just like it was with Tommy Cooper to do magic that badly!! It was a talented skill that was practiced to get the audience laughing :) And Les did with such aplomb :)

  • @kingklabe Yes, you could compare it to Tommy Cooper being a top class straight magician which was what enabled him to perform conjuring tricks badly so that they were funny.

  • @kingklabe no it doesnt

play any tune in the wrong key it will sound that bad.

only talent is he could play piano many ppl can

  • @ljs123 Playing out of tune is the easy part. It's the fact that he could play with the correct timing and choose notes that are particularly cacophonous rather than just playing the note next door.

  • Sounds like me playing the piano (except I don't do it deliberately ;-) One of Britain's comedy greats!

  • When he turned towards the camera and grinned, that nearly killed me.

It takes real talent to play the piano that badly.

  • Comic Genius !

  • 2 play so badly - you have to play so good - great tallent - sadly missed xx

  • All he has to do is click his fingers and it makes me laugh.

  • it actually takes a great pianist to play out of tune like that. absolutely sublime!

  • No thanks.

  • great man! love his jokes and you cant play out of tune like he did! lol love him to bits!!!

  • No one could play "out of tune".....quite like Les! Great stuff.

  • hahah brilliant piano playing always loved him playing the piano loll

  • Professional.

  • 'the man' love it

  • so so funny!!!

  • genius

    great man

  • Les, wherever you may be, you're sadly missed by us down here, but thanks to YouTube we we can still enjoy your tinkling of the ivories. (Or beating them into submission..)

  • Cracks me up every time... thanks Les

  • I love when he points at the screen, brilliant.

  • Brand? Ross/ Jo Brand ? FuCk FuCK Vagina ShiT ! WoW, how amazingly talented, NOT. LES spent ages learning how to play that bad . It's not that easy, well unless you're naturally crap .

So called comedians nowadays have to make up for lack of talent by just trying to shock (teenage humour)

  • Jeremy Clarkson? When was he ever funny?? Give me the classics any time, The 2 Ronnies, Les Dawson, Billy Connolly, Rowan Atkinson, Morecambe and Wise and so on.

  • billy connaly wins all, he is so funny!

  • @Scotsbell tommy cooper also.

  • @BluntAnim Of course, although I wasn't a huge fan of Tommy Cooper to be honest.

  • classic americans well would not get that

they didnt understand that tommy coopers magic tricks were meant to go wrong

ahh the british there all about doing it

    and fucking it up :)

  • he's not even a comeidian but he says some funny shit :)

  • Fuck me. That says it all mate.

  • Very Funny man, He was so great at piano that he knew how to play it badly on purpose! Great man, Comedy Legend

  • this cracks me up every time i watch it XDD

  • Pure class.

  • We love you Les.... as a piano player to do this is harder than it looks!

  • fukin brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Playing piano like that takes genious....he could play.....Les was a trooper and sadly missed!

  • a legend

  • was peter kay inspired by les?? similar swagger and charm. just wondering

  • i think so yes...

  • playing all the right notes but not nesessercerly in the right order !!lol

  • we saw him at the Cavendish Club, Sheffield ,early 70s. he was hilarious. and all good clean gags, he says ,, " my wife is so fat,, when she.s on the beach, they try to drag her into the sea,,, they think she,s a stranded whale,,

  • A genius. Les did loads of this stuff. Does no one have any to share?

  • A true comedy genius.Still sadly missed.

  • At one Royal Variety Show he shaped up to play a song for an old lady (an ex-entertainer) who he said was 111 today ... the audience fell for it ..... until he looked into the wings, cupped an ear and said "Oh, I'm sorry she's not 111, she's ill". Can someone load this gag up, it is superb.

  • ...hahahaha that is so funny! Crying!! Proper funny!!

  • A REAL COMEDY HERO...

  • he would have got a gig at the hayrick thats for sure!

  • LOL, true....ive heard some of them bands that ASS puts on....ENOUGH SAID !! HA,

  • I'm crying with laughter at this!!! what a legend. such simple comedy!!

  • I have now watched this about 20 times on the trot and it makes me laugh EVERY time. It's comedy genius.

  • He must have really been able to play well to purposely play that bad and make it sound like a mistake. What a cool guy.

  • Aint makin balls ups just great lol. I find it hard 2 do on purpose lol

  • Another great comic from the North of England,Les was wonderful, one of he last of a great Comic era (of which Ken Dodd is THE last).Love that deadpan face and the 'Cissy and Ida' sketches (with Roy Barraclough) were hilarious, as Northern asBlack Pudding and Hilda Baker .You also have to be a very talented pianist to play that badly deliberately. Thanks Les.x

  • From London

They do not get funniier than Dawson = what a cool man he was.

Am now fantasing about bacon and black pudding!

  • Great stuff Les!

Is a pity to hear people say that other languages are not worth learning.

What is wrong with our country.

The Dutch are more fluent in English than we are.

Watched doc last night about the insect tribe in Papua New Guinea - they can speak Engish so what is wrong with our brains?

  • I wish there were more clips online of Les playing in this manner - he was never funnier than when doing this kind of routine. I wish I'd appreciated his comedy more when he was alive...

  • I'm so glad YouTube is here to allow me to call upon fantastic memorable clips like this one! Just to reassure bonnie43uk, Norman Wisdom is still alive ...there was a report made in error ar the end of 2008 but it was exactly that - an error.

  • There were many great british comedians around when i was a kid but les dawson was one of the greatest. Just watching this again reminds me of all the times my mum would tell me off for banging my dinky up against the bathroom scales.

  • Love les dawson!!

  • legend!

  • its actually harder to play the wrong notes, Les Dawson always cracked me up when he played the piano. we'll miss u Les. ps, did anyone hear that Norman Wisdom died????

  • There was once a full length version of this sketch posted, but it got pulled. Shame.

    Anyway, AWESOME comic, sadly missed.

  • Brilliant.

  • Let's have it right, comic genius.

And he was from North Manchester. Get in there Les.

  • Fucking brilliant.

  • Have to be very good to play like that.

  • Classic. A gem of a comic. Sadly missed

  • I used to love it when he played the piano. In reality of course he was a very good pianist. Good old Les, they don't make them like that anymore.

  • He was fantastic!!

He makes me laugh so much!!

  • And how does that help me? Everyone should speak English then life would be so much easier.

  • The world is full of other languages apart from English.

    別の外国語を勉強した方が良いよ。

  • Saw your comment about english language. Interesting, if we were bombarded with say French, Spanish, or even Greek etc..., then we would speak that language. However, we are not, therefore we speak the language most of the world chooses to use, get my 'drift' (Americanism)

  • The fantasic, amazing Les. Had he still been alive today I'm sure he would have been 'Sir' Les!

To play the piano 'badly' Is so difficult to do. Pure genius

  • so terrible it's perfect !

  • you have to know how to play the piano to play that bad! rip les

  • I liked the diatonic stuff

  • i absolutely love Les Dawson. he had the gift of being able to make me laugh without saying a word. just a naturally funny man. i miss him.

  • Brilliant - playing like that is harder than playing normally. Superbly funny man.
