I'm using right now a 15-element yagi I built with 12-gauge copper wire on a wooden dowel instead of dioxin-PVC. I'm looking for square brass or copper tubing to build a 20-element.
having Just one high gain antennas is Usless for long range connectiion without a second high gain antenna on the other side you're connecting to so basically because you have a powerfull high gain antenna does not mean you will be able to connect to wifis from miles away unless you have another high gain antennas on the other side so with just one high gain antenna it might pickup lots of wifis but connecting to most of them is impossible signal will be to weak!!!
bought one off e-bay .....did not work, took cover off plastic object w/ antenna wire coming out of it,.......not even hooked to antenna, just a strip of metal on each side, with ground lead attached to one.and other main lead attached to other?????so how is it suppose to work if cable is not even contacting aluminum antenna?......anyone?
@jeepers2655 damn dude, You need to read up a little, The internet is great for that, just google yagi antennas and read on them, particularly study on the driven element being a folded dipole. that is what this antenna is, a high gain, very directional, yagi antenna with a folded dipole driven element. Excellent antenna. If it isn't working then you probably have another issue like you are not pointing it directly at a signal source that is close enough. ? or a bad cable or so on
I wounder if he really made this video. I can't give it a good score and the chopper noise maks me wounder if he thinks he is doing something corvert. kind of like playing war?
Well, anyone could actually build a antenna by just looking how thats made, if you have no clue how to build a antenna you shouldnt really build one. Also by reading the info it says "The construction is self-explanatory! " ;)
Being a Ham radio licensed operator I can assure you I have built many antennas and could certainly buid that one. I was refrring to people who are watching who need to know how far apart is radial is from each other and how long the boom is, etc, etc. You say absolutely nothing that would be helpful to those people. Without that info the antenna will not work to the best of it's design ability.
@macscujo Im a Op too! KF5CNU is my call! Yeah this it would be nice if he would say would say something instead of just showing a few pics. Boy, ill tell you I have seen some rly stupid WiFi antennas that are like 100' long and the stupid people are like OMG ITS SOO COOL!!! And im like "Have fun with your high SWR and a fried transmitter in your WiFi card
@grant2053 , yes, I agree. I tried to tell a moron the other day about SWR and a router, and he said that I was full of it; and that SWR only matters on a CB or something of that nature -- I could not get through to him that if it TXs, then it matters! I run a 7-10 mile link from my house, so that I can Internet from my astronomy spot. It is nearly perfect LOS. I use a 40" dish at the house and a 24 element yagi at my mountain location. And, yes, I have also seen some of these stupid antennas!

@macscujo Hi, hope you still use your youtube account! Just wanted to ask..in your opinion, is the yagi the best design (compact) for longer distance 2.4ghz tx/rx, or would something like the bi-quad be better? I've seen so many varying results in my searches in the past, just want to hear from someone with experience. I ordered what's supposedly a 25dbi yagi on ebay. Still awaiting it's arrival and really hoping it at least beats my home-made cantenna!
You can make them smaller. I have made a few wifi yagi's for people using ground wire courtesy of the local cable company throwing away the old outdoor type cable that has the ground wire along the side of the insulation. Cut off 40 2.5 inch pcs. using a piece of wood and wood screws. you will need a pair of needle nose pliers to make a round type piece at one of the ends of the wire so that the wood screws can fit into it. place each element about half an inch from each element. 35 db gain.
