haha the best internet explorer was IE6. That shit was fast and amazing. IE7 and IE8 weren't worth downloading. IE9 has still a little way to go to match the standards of chrome and firefox
AKA, "No one on Windows uses our shitty browser, so why would tech savvy Mac users want our shitty browser? We aren't going to take the time to make IE work on a Mac just to have 13 people worldwide use it!"
IE is fine .....its the fact that there is no standards in browser rendering engines thats the problem. - I'm using firefox ...only because I like firebug and fox-tab.
@WeEatBrainz The funny thing is, I was using IE on a Mac in 1999. xP
The last version of IE they brought to the Mac was IE 5, I think. It wasn't a port - they built it from the ground up. And as I remember, it wasn't bad.
Innovation energy ... this bonehead has surely GOT to be joking :-/
Fair enough, IE9 is a decent browser but it's taken them years just to get it to a level where it's finally CSS2 compliant - something that most non-IE browsers have been for 8-9+ years since. But then with javascript, every new release of IE breaks something that worked fine in previous versions. IE is a (bad) joke a browser, made by a sad excuse for a company whose idea of "innovation" is copying other peoples ideas: badly!
LOL, who the f..k wants Internet explorer, imagine that peice of shit in the launchpad, the whole macbook design would be screwed if i had that program on my desktop.
I dont really like how MSFT slacked when IE6 was released, but i can tell you this, ive never crashed so much with Google Chrome and Firefox, IE9 is much more stable and have better memory usage.
You people should try to forget the past and try the new IE9. You are all probably using Firefox or another flash crashing webbrowser, not knowing that IE9 uses a hardware accelerator.
LOL, this is where I finally agree with Ballmer XD I'm content with: Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Camino, Opera anything other than the browser from Hell....Internet Explorer o_0!
@superDev323 People that know that there are other browsers indeed don't want IE, but there are still people (like my father) that don't want to learn about other browsers, because he's 65, turning 66 in a half month, and he thinks he's to old to use other browsers.
Other people can also have their reasons, like being able to do their work, and such things.
But IMO, IE sucks, but is getting better than it's older versions.
@MrArabSon true... check out how checkboxes look (example given facebook, take a good look) Plus IE isn't ported to OS X because it'd stand out as the most crashing browser in the platform.
hmm, Facebook is designed for IE8, so in this case, or any other website, click F12 to enter developers mode and chose IE8 browser mode. for the crashing point, I aggree with you if you were talking about IE7 not IE9. :)
BTW, as a web developer I use IE, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari to check my layout and I can tell that IE9 is the best IE I used ever.
@MrArabSon My whole point is that we should just abide to standards, not browser compatibility. Browsers that abide to standards should just compete on functionalities like add-ons etc. The only thing I'd use from IE9 would be the hardware acceleration. But then I'd need an awesome video card cause business laptops generally fail with video card's performance... add to that IE9's demand of an awesome video card and there goes the edge.
I tested IE9 in a two year old Dell laptop... FAIL
@FirebrandNIRE by far most people do, especially in professional enviroments. As a web developer I have to constantly take that into account because a fair number of my clients are still on IE6. The reason for that is because they have company web applications that were made specifically with IE6 in mind, and it would cost too much money to upgrade it.
@Eruonen bullshit. IE complies with both the W3C standard and their html tags. So if you just focused on doing it solely for W3C standards you wouldn't even need to worry about the client in the first place. there was absolutely no need to follow along.
@gyzmopr Are you joking? I always produce standards compliant code and have it checked both by automatic tools and colleagues. If you've ever tried to develop a somewhat big/complicated web page you'd know you're full of shit. Usually it's minor bugs, but a lot of my clients don't even want minor bugs.
@gyzmopr alright just show me the big complicated web page you are talking about where you are using W3C html code that is completely W3C validated that won't work in IE but will in other browsers. SHOW US.
@superDev323 Actually...I read it on PCGamer's website....Also, I'm not clinging to IE. Don't be like every other assuming tard on youtube and make assumptions about me. I use Chromium. I am simply stating what I read from a website that has a pretty good rate of reliability.
Here is a reason as to why a mac user such as myself would like a mac version of IE, I am a web developer and most people sadly still use IE and every time I want to see a site I'm working on in IE i hafta fire up parallels and its a big pain in the ass.
@r3volution4eva I have a mac, I HATE safari. I use firefox 100% of the time. Unfortunately the stats still stand. I have sites i've made that get over 100K hits a month and the Google Analytics are still showing about 65% of users using IE. The number IS falling, it used to be higher, but a majority are still using IE because they aren't knowledgeable and simply use what comes with their OS so I as a web designer unfortunately still have to be sure the sites look okay in IE :-(
@r3volution4eva i must agree with Thycid, there's still a majority of IE users. Every statistic says that. Though they all also agree that the numbers are going down... luckily ^^
@500ncb There is a funny story about IE5 for Mac, which was "free of charge", and actually was more standard compliant and way better coded than the Windows version (PNG implementation/better rendering engine, so forth). Not many (I asume) knows today, that there was a Mac version in the first place, but it seems like at that point, just after IE5, they decided to go "Windows only". And have kept that strategy since.
@ytvoice1 i did know when steve jobs just went back at apple they used ie as default browser. when steve jobs announced that at the keynote, the arena booed real loud. but when jobs said there is another option, people cheered. not sure which version was that. but putting mac vs pc aside, i've heard too many windows users hating ie. there only reason they still have majority market share is that a lot of companies and schools dint bother to download firefox or chrome.
@teslaglobal can you explain why chrome and firefox are shit? sorry im a safari user so i dint know. however i have used chrome and firefox a bit, chrome definitely much faster than ie and firefox, but i've also heard web designers use firefox to test their websites because it has stricter security. please enlighten me :)
If Ballmer ever bothered to research what real consumers thought of m$ productd/services he would become a used car salesman. At least he'd be clued up enough to see the abuse coming.
@superDev323 lack of market choice. Funny how as soon as there is choice M$ use money prizes to lure everyone back.... and anyone who actually went back did it for the money. And that was only short lived :D
@emad2222 you know the problem with operating system creators creating Web Browsers is that they can't create a stable one. Apple Mac OS - Safari (crappy). Microsoft Windows - Internet Explorer (Shitty)
hybridthehobo your are a fucken jerk. I have a computer with a duo core processor that runs at 2.5 Ghz. Yet it takes my computer about 4 minutes to boot. Right now I am having more problems with IE surfing the internet. It just loves to tell me the page can't be displayed error. Why do you think you have to update the system every other day. It takes 5 minutes to shut the system down. Just view Andy Rooney Bill Gates. Mr. Rooney hits the nail on the head about Microsuck!
IE is dying. IE sucks at my school and my house. Every teacher I took a survey I asked would you rather have IE on our comps or firefox. Our comps are cheap ass dells. Firefox won big time. Out of 30 teachers I asked only 8 said IE. 22 said firefox. IE sucks bad.
Steve Ballmer is a dummy. He thinks windoze 7 is simpler. He must be blind. It took me 45 minutes to download windoze 7 rtm. When I burned it to DVD it was a little over 3 gigs on the DVD. It took a while to get it to work on the computer computer didn't want to see the DVD drive.
It took over 3 hours to install the OS. IE had a lot of problems surfing the internet. Even know the page loaded it would give you errors. I wonder if Steve Ballmer uses or ever tested windoze 7.
When I look for a web browser, or any software for that matter, I judge it on many things: reliability, security, ease of use, speed etc. The name really doesn't come into it.
I personally like Firefox the most because of the amazing plug-ins, but more add-ons = more RAM used.
Speed-wise, there is a slight lead with Chrome IMHO, but it's not obvious w/o stopwatch or two comps side by side.
I've only used Safari on iPhone/iPod. Skyfire on WinMo pwns though. The only thing is that Skyfire needs a PPC or smartphone with at least 256 MB of RAM to run smoothly. Still quite cheaper to get a decent PPC vs an iPhone though :)
you don't need to sort bookmarks because you are a mac idiot. You only use safari to waste time like an idiot and download porn. Maybe thats why you like safari so much, because of its delete history feature.
I hold a BSc in Computer Science. A lot of that was learning a real OS. UNIX. Interestingly enough, OSX is a front end on UNIX. Up until last year I ran exclusively Windows Vista and Linux at home. I then hacked OS X Leopard to run on my Toshiba Laptop (I bought my copy of Leo and hacked it myself). I now have a MacBook, run OS X, Windows XP (via VMWare and Boot Camp), and Linux (via VMWare). All 3 are good, but Linux and OSX are more secure by default.
Oh and by the way, you CAN sort bookmarks on Safari. Click on show all bookmarks and it opens them in coverflow mode, you can then drag them to where you want them.
i use safari!! is great i find it better than firefox and im in windows yesh safari kick ass but have some errors some times but errors are normal i love the way they show history like s slideshow and the top sites!!! kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! right or im wrong?
im glad internet explorer doesnt come with macs now. it sucks bad enough on windows the os it was designed for then who would think it would be any better on mac
@Meloku171 That's the only thing i used ie5 for, the only thing i used ie 6 for, and the only thing i used ie7 for. If ie8 comes with win7 then thats the only thing i used it for as well. then I used firefox to download linux :P
steve ballmer is horrible at least bill gates was nice about everything and even had the nerve to go on stage and compliment apple and have a friendly conversation with steve jobs. steve ballmer continues to bash apple and think microsoft is superior
it would be a waste of time for them to bring IE to the Mac... its a really sucky browser and no one who has a Mac (including myself) would use it when we have much better browsers like Safari and Firefox... I doubt that many PC users use IE for their browsing
It is a fact that by putting IE on a mac you'd depreciate the value of the said mac by 200 percent. Shit software on a great computer always makes an epic fail.
To be honest, Internet Explorer has seen better days. It is one of the biggest reasons why there are so many Viruses on Windows. Since 2006 it has been continuing to loose market share. I believe the last time i checked it was at or around 70%. I know people think that's no big deal, but think about it. That's more than 20 percent in only a couple of years. I think that speaks for itself quite clearly. People are tired of using an old and out of shape browser.
let's not forget the fact, that most of the people using IE (that 70%) don't even imagine that there can possibly be another browser. so, most of the "advanced" users already moved to firefox, safari, opera, maxthon, sleipnir and others.
why would we want ie? i dont know about you steve, but im going to go and chat with my buddy on ichat, then compose the next big song on garageband, and then make a keynote on iwork while watching youtube on safari and rocking out on itunes.
I could actually use an updated IE on the Mac so I don't have to use windows virtualization to test if my web design works with the lemming crowd.

I wonder if Steve Ballmer uses or ever tested windoze 7.
altlandf 2 years ago
Download? That is discusting you fucking illegal cunt!
Sarcasm aside, You're talking bullshit. If your computer doesn't see the DVD drive, it's your (or the computer's) fault.
IE does not give errors when surfing the web, mostly anyway.
I like linux, mac and windows, and I'm just listing facts.

IE does give errors when surfing the web. You're just used to them.

When I look for a web browser, or any software for that matter, I judge it on many things: reliability, security, ease of use, speed etc. The name really doesn't come into it.

Why would any Mac user want or need Explorer? I say to Ballmer: Thank you for sparing us from the crap you inflict on your own PC customers.

who still uses IE?
I have firefox. google chrome is also good.

I have a mac and I don't want IE anyway.
stenkotten 2 years ago 6
I personally like Firefox the most because of the amazing plug-ins, but more add-ons = more RAM used.
Speed-wise, there is a slight lead with Chrome IMHO, but it's not obvious w/o stopwatch or two comps side by side.
I've only used Safari on iPhone/iPod. Skyfire on WinMo pwns though. The only thing is that Skyfire needs a PPC or smartphone with at least 256 MB of RAM to run smoothly. Still quite cheaper to get a decent PPC vs an iPhone though :)
radicalgarbage02 2 years ago
the fastest is chrome
mozzila is kinda buggy with its latest updates and takes up a lot of memory but still is good
opera is pretty damn good
microsoft should stop developing their browser, cause no ones using it and it sucks
safari 4 is the best with java and pretty fast

safari is a piece of shit. can't even sort bookmarks. IE for life.
ChesterDoraemon 2 years ago
why do I need to sort bookmarks when I can just use Spotlight on my browsing history?
What scores the fastest on the SunSpider Javascript test?
What scores 100/100 on the Acid 3 test?
The answer to both is Safari....
cjmillsnun 2 years ago
you don't need to sort bookmarks because you are a mac idiot. You only use safari to waste time like an idiot and download porn. Maybe thats why you like safari so much, because of its delete history feature.
ChesterDoraemon 2 years ago
I'm a mac idiot am I?
I hold a BSc in Computer Science. A lot of that was learning a real OS. UNIX. Interestingly enough, OSX is a front end on UNIX. Up until last year I ran exclusively Windows Vista and Linux at home. I then hacked OS X Leopard to run on my Toshiba Laptop (I bought my copy of Leo and hacked it myself). I now have a MacBook, run OS X, Windows XP (via VMWare and Boot Camp), and Linux (via VMWare). All 3 are good, but Linux and OSX are more secure by default.
cjmillsnun 2 years ago
Oh and by the way, you CAN sort bookmarks on Safari. Click on show all bookmarks and it opens them in coverflow mode, you can then drag them to where you want them.

HAHAHA Yeah, Internet Explorer is an "innovation". Windows is an "innovation".
More like Mac OS X is an innovation and Windows is a dirty broken copy of OS X lol. Go Mac!
MacintoshDima 2 years ago
Or more like Unix is an innovation, Windows tried but failed and Mac couldn't try, so they took Unix.

steve ballmer is horrible at least bill gates was nice about everything and even had the nerve to go on stage and compliment apple and have a friendly conversation with steve jobs. steve ballmer continues to bash apple and think microsoft is superior
Epic0fear0 2 years ago
it would be a waste of time for them to bring IE to the Mac... its a really sucky browser and no one who has a Mac (including myself) would use it when we have much better browsers like Safari and Firefox... I doubt that many PC users use IE for their browsing
drinkskimmilk 2 years ago
It is a fact that by putting IE on a mac you'd depreciate the value of the said mac by 200 percent. Shit software on a great computer always makes an epic fail.

IE is the worst browser ever.

i'm sure the mac dont want that crappy virus and spyware filled ie anywhere near it
keriah17 2 years ago 16
To be honest, Internet Explorer has seen better days. It is one of the biggest reasons why there are so many Viruses on Windows. Since 2006 it has been continuing to loose market share. I believe the last time i checked it was at or around 70%. I know people think that's no big deal, but think about it. That's more than 20 percent in only a couple of years. I think that speaks for itself quite clearly. People are tired of using an old and out of shape browser.
beejm90 2 years ago
ya, what about firefox or safari (it works on windows)
planefreak3 2 years ago
let's not forget the fact, that most of the people using IE (that 70%) don't even imagine that there can possibly be another browser. so, most of the "advanced" users already moved to firefox, safari, opera, maxthon, sleipnir and others.
ldog1991 2 years ago
why would we want ie? i dont know about you steve, but im going to go and chat with my buddy on ichat, then compose the next big song on garageband, and then make a keynote on iwork while watching youtube on safari and rocking out on itunes.
