Hi.... just want to know more about this cyanogen thing....
When you install cyanogen onto a g1, does the phone still work the same way as it does when out of the box? Are those default apps still on the phone? Can you still download and install apps from the android market?
problem with the sound app. or music app. When music is playing and a call comes or any notification alert the phone hangs. sound stop, every thing just go silent. this only happens when the headphone adopter is plug in. any solutions. well I have to select silent for err other app that uses sound, that;s the only way the sound keeps running G1 running cyanogen 4.2.1

I am not sure what you mean by flashing a hero rom on top of cyanogen, but what you can do is flash the dark hero theme on top of the cyanogen mod :) , you can find it on cyanogen website
Do you have any recommendations of where I can learn to do this? I just have 1.6, I've never modded (my phone) and I'm just kinda scared to screw it up and would like detailed instructions. Will all my apps still be on my phone after I flash it? Please let me know, thanks.
ijust want to know one thing after all this cyanogen vs google thing cyanogen said his rom wont have any proprietary app from google which ment he market maps youtube gmail etc. when you fash that 4.1.99 do you have hese apps? will they work if they are saved on your sd plz answer this i the only thing keeping me from flashing any cyanogen rm after 4.1.11 or something like that lol.
yeah, you still have gmail and google stuff. What Cyanogen did was back up these applications to your phone, so that when you flash his rom, it excludes all these apps, but once its on your phone, the apps are already there from before. Its a smart legal move by him and I am glade that he found a way to continue on doing his awesome stuff. so in summary, once you flash 4.1.99 or 4.1.999 you will have a faster nicer android phone :)
cyanogens roms are in fact optimized... it would be quite fast even without a partitioned sd card. though on of the large differences asp for the g1 s running aps2sd because the g1 is the most limited on (almost crippled by the lack of) internal memory.
*** Having the same issue., once I flash 4.1.99 G1 is slugish., Ive followed all (proper) steps., had an issue fixing permissions too. Restored back to 4.1.11.1 for now., Any help would be Awesome!! : promise760@gmail

yes sir, I wiped right after I installed the recovery image by htc, because some people recommended that wipe at that point. after i wiped I flashed 4.1.999 ( all this using the cyanogen recovery image 1.4 )

XDA forums are the best to find tutorials on doing things but in general you need to
1. root
2. flash custom recovery image
3. flash custom rom
these are generic steps, to them, there are many and many more steps, so research and let me know :)

hey.. when i did the update my 4.1.99 is wicked slow and nothing but force closes. cant find any info on it. any ideas for me?
also 4.1.999 is wicked slow cant do anything. i wish it was as fast as yours. ill have to flash back to 4.0.4. please help!!

I think the speed of cyanogen roms mostly come from how you partition your sd card ( thats what i think, not sure if its ture)
I also think that the speed mainly comes from your linux swap capacity. For that phone, I have 96 mb linux swap.
so let me know what you have for partitions ?
