  • one of the best interviewers i have ever seen

  • i saw creep on mtv

  • Coupland reference!! Awesome!!

  • What a talented douchbag. I know loving the band make you want to love Thom as a man and this is why you feel drawn to defend him. But deep down you know he's a douche.

  • she actually looks strikingly like thom yorke's wife. perhaps that has a bit to do with their connection...

  • whats wrong with his left eye? anybody?

  • @FakePlasticShrimp it's lazy. He had a lot of surgery on it as an infant due to his eye lid having no muscles, and that made him half blind...

  • When she said "it is for my viewers" what she meant was, "screw my viewers you are so sexy keep talking about politics"

  • thom dork.(joke radiohead heads!)

  • I really truly love this man.

  • "back drifting" .. nice

  • What works about this interview is that most interviewers are the ones with the upper hand. They are usually straight forward, confidant and curious making the interviewee feel a bit interrogated. This can sometimes make the interviewee a bit taken aback by thier forwardness and close up or get annoyed by their questions.

This interviewer however seems to be so happy, blase and carefree that Thom feels as if he is ontop (no pun intended) and therefore comfortable.

  • the Backdrifting question is grand

  • hail to the thief is one of my favourite albums by songwriting standards, very good :)

  • 4:50 Thom's inspiration for "Backdrifts (Honeymoon Is Over.)

  • haha "the election was bought" clear reference to Bush.

Thom is honestly my greatest inspiration.

  • @elephantstone222 you are forgetting Starsailor and Oasis.

  • who ever wrote the questions for this interview knows Radiohead

  • i love how she is trying to talk about his music and he just goes off on these political/ life tangents

  • "I'm allowed"

    He's allowed.

  • i think he was talking about Coldplay and Travis when he says "have i been responsible for this? this is really awful."

  • wow, what he said applies to any1 from any industrialized country... especially america.

  • Shit! i just realized... I don't have a radiohead shirt....

  • @sotordamotor

    Don't get one.

  • Thom Yorke is such a person to admire. He's an intellectual as well as a damn amazing musician. He doesn't bullshit about his personal life in interviews like most people do these days. I say he's a gem.

  • Thom is such a genious

  • *gasp* Did Thom first hear the word "backdrifting" through this interview? :o

  • @serwafamilyvlog I'm pretty sure she was just referencing one of his songs

  • Anyone who studies Art, whatever the medium, as well as its producers, the true artists, can't help but see a consistent quality of social difficulty. It is the price of artistic vision. We are not all created equal. Thom has a quality that sets him apart from the masses, and it gives him joy and pain simultaneously. Ezra Pound wrote,"The apparition of these faces in a crowd-- Petals on a wet, black bough." He's a part, and apart from the people he loves. Play on, Thom.

  • @Itsjames1 Kid A. :)

  • : This Lady Could Be His Rachel Owen...

  • Very nice to see the real Thom Yorke, not only is he a complete musical genius and visionary, he's a really nice guy too.

  • Radiohead's influence on Muse is like Mike Patton's influence on nu metal: IT WASN'T THEIR FAULT.

  • @srimecrime Jeff Buckley's influence on Radiohead is like Mike Patton's influence on nu metal : IT WASN'T HIS FAULT... and we can go on like this until the beguinings of music! :S

  • Death threats are very very uncool

  • She's actually a very good interviewer - never heard Thom share so much of his soul before :)

  • is this an interview or a chat about the society we live in.

i could listen to Yorke for days

  • What new album was she reffering to in this intirview? Hail to the theif?

  • @Itsjames1 yup

  • "There will be a forward moving, not just a Backdrifting"

Nice incorporation of a song name xD

  • oh shit... so i misheard :D thanks

  • hey guys... i'm not English... can anybody explain me what he talks about when he talks about Blur, please? thanks. BTW: this is incredibly good interview

  • @MurdocTheBassist het talks about Blair

  • @MurdocTheBassist he talks about Blair

  • she's the radiohead of interviewing

  • She is so in love with thom.

  • @blopaxzONe Who isn't?

  • Thom is unfairly misunderstood, i believe a lot of interviewers piss him off, however this lady is a great interviewer thats why he is being a great interviewee

  • @rcomm400 You're so right about the thing with Thom being missunderstood. He talks about his family problems, his problems with the society etc. and she doesn't realise it. I hope, that I will put all my anger, fear and thoughts in good words and good notes to create music like thom. Music, which helps me inside.

  • wat album is he talking about in this interview

  • @applesaucefiend

    hail to the thief

  • @applesaucefiend Hail to the Thief.

  • Wow... an interviewer who actually can... interview... These would be nice in the states.

  • '' It's obviously not MTV is it? '' HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • as a radiohead fan i may ask:

who fuckin cares about your age?

    I'm sure Thom doesn't!

So your argument is based on the fact that you are a child with good taste in music... wow, that's brilliant

the more you say you are 12,14,15, the less I believe anything you say.

  • "You must think there will be a forward moving, not only a *Backdrifting*."

    "Nice."

    hahahaha

  • This is such a good interview. This is the conversation we all wish we could have with thom yorke.

  • A star being interviewed by a another star.

  • The interviewer was so wet in her pants the whole interview

  • What a good way to end this segment of his interview.

"This obviously isn't mtv, is it?"

Although there is no doubt I'm going to watch the 3rd part, imagine if that was the end of the interview. That would be badass.

  • can somone tell me please whats the name of the book he said???

  • @rocko194

    "Generation X" by Douglas Coupland

  • La risita de thom *.*

  • he comes off as awkward but hes really just choosing his words very carefully so that everything comes out beautifully.

  • Charlotte Roche wrote a book a few years ago, which made her even more popular, then she already was in germany.

She is a very smart woman, who knows about politics, economy etc

Beside that Thoms answers are also very interesting.

    Actually it's a great interview!

  • She fucking diggs him

  • @Miasatif Well, now we know you can use a thesaurus. I know you think it makes you look smart by being capable of using words that are not in the common vocabulary, but it doesn't. It makes you look like a smug bitch.

  • it's obviously not mtv is it... hah!!!

  • @timeforsomecoffee it is ;) 'VIVA' is a German daughter company of MTV witch played music videos when MTV stopped at some point...

  • Comment removed

  • May I please marry this woman? She... she said something!

  • 4:52 hahaha

  • Wait. There are intelligent, eloquent, intrigued music journalists? Wow. This is fantastic.

  • obviously not mtv. what a great interview.

on a side note, does Thom do a shitload of drugs or is he just crazy? or both?

  • @gettinnapkins I'd say both man. Has to be.

  • @gettinnapkins

    Neither? He's intelligent.

  • Its obviously not mtv, hahahahah

  • @radiozep Laughed out loud at that - brilliant!

  • he's talking about HAIL TO THE THIEF. Which is funny because i didn't realize until far into the interview when he says it. Also funny because I think it's the only Radiohead album I haven't heard! Gonna get it now

  • Lol, even Thom knows that Bush stole the election!

  • Comment removed

  • Which record are they discussing?

  • @chilithug Hail to the Theif.

  • Comment removed

  • @SultanAbsinth. Your comment is conflictual and illustrates that you are in some sort of discord. To vocally rebuke Thom Yorke as you have simply demonstrates your ineptitude in appreciating or having any redeemable conceptual analysis of what constitutes as good music. You must provide evidence for your statements and since Radiohead have, your comment is a bunch of shit mate.

  • @miasatif did you need the overachieving vocabulary?lol

  • "I'm allowed to think." I need to get to that point.

  • She is so wet for him throughout the entire interview.

  • @wolfman3902001 I'm so wet for him. Him, Radiohead. GOD DAMN

  • he thinks like me... im scared how similar we think...but i just wish i had his music talent XD the world is frightening and i feel uncomphortable now...

  • Probably the best Radiohead interview

  • I never got into Radiohead's music, but I am developping more and more of a man-crush on Thom Yorke each and every day. He's jsut an awesome guy, and interviewer is great, too. They both seem to be intelligent, and aware of their surroundings. It's bloody RARE to see that on TV nowadays.

  • My reactions to this video:

    1. When Thom speaks, I stop what I am doing and listen intently.

    2. That is one well prepared, thoughtful, intelligent journalist.

    3. They totally DID IT after the interview.

  • thats not saying much considering Oasis and Starsailor suck. And yes they did try to copy Radiohead...for real those are a couple of the bands he is talking about, yet he never mentions them by name. It's one thing to be inspired...its another to be a complete rip off. Coldplay...eh...they have their moments...but I really tried to give "A Rush of Blood To the Head" a listen more than once...and they just flat out bore me.

  • "oh my god this is really awful, have i been responsible for this?" he must have been referring to Oasis, Starsailor, and Coldplay. If you are a fan of any of those bands thats okay but they do rip off Radiohead, its just a fact.

  • @peanutbuttercrunc100

Well Coldplay is like 100 times better than oasis and Starsailor and they didn't copy Radiohead at all. I hate it when people compare the two, they are different in so many ways.

  • thom speaks the truth about our government, anyone who disagrees is beyond ignorant. the female interviewer is fuckin sexy btw.

  • @peanutbuttercrunc100 i love how ya went from somethin serious in the world then was like oh yeah that chick is fuckin hot hahaha

  • i would like to see Nardwuar interview Thom Yorke : >

  • Anyone know who that interviewer is? I'd like to see her talk with some other artists. You can see here that all the talk about Thom being a dick in interviews is untrue...When the interviewer asks smart, relevant, questions he seems to really enjoy himself.

  • You can see Thom's very impressed with some of the questions he's been getting.

  • "This obviously isn't MTV, is it?"

I found that statement extremely amusing.

  • Brilliant. I love his humour and his... using of the language. xD

  • death threats are pretty uncool

  • I like how at the end when she says that politics are sexy to her viewers, Thom glances straight into the camera for a moment, as if looking at them...

  • Who is the woman?

  • @carnesaur charlotte roche, a german moderator/author

  • This is the interview that got me to have great respect for Thom Yorke.

  • One of his best interviews ever. Quite in-depth and revealing, without being trivialized.

  • death threats are uncool

  • Great interview. :)

Oh, Charlotte Roche ... good old times, back when music television was still about music. I miss Viva2 ...

  • @noizycat word!

  • I like the way he answers his questions, no rush, and actually thinks about what he's saying. Skills that pay the bills :)

  • Which bands do you think Thom is referring to? The ones whose music he calls "self-indulgent"? Very pointed criticism.

  • Well the time he said it was to early for it to be Coldplay, which was who came to mind first.

    Thinking Oasis myself.

  • @warrenmusic my guess would be coldplay, muse, and other such "radiohead-lite" bands.

  • "I love the problems that i have..internal and external.." we love them too you know.. ;)

  • it's not that he was 'in a good mood' - just those questions are the kind of questions he wants to hear.

  • i love him

  • ... at 4:50 did she just plant the seed that became Backdrifts. (Honeymoon is Over.)? I believe so!

  • @jbag16023

He definitely took alot on board that she said, which is surprising considering Radiohead's history with journalists.

Thom Yorke, I fucking love you.

  • @jbag16023 I'd like to think so, but it sounds to me as though he's talking about the release of Hail To The Thief as something that's already happened. He'd already have written and named Backdrifts...

  • @jbag16023 The album at that point was already finished I think... so nice try!

  • "people in my age.. old gits" fuck off Thom!! you look like a teenager!! not an old git! *HUGS*

  • my english sucks can sum1 tell me what does the girl answers when thom says polytics arn't sort of a sexy thing??????

    great interview btw

  • @yeahyeahyaha2 when thom says 'politics isn't a very sexy thing', she says 'it is for my viewers'....indeed, it isn't MTV!

  • @shneakacious thanks

  • @shneakacious thanks

  • @yeahyeahyaha2 this is for me viewers? lol

  • @AidenLS mate is actually "it is for my viewers"

    thanks anyway

  • @ HowAboutSomeTruth1 i wish you didnt do the same thing...seeing as how everything he talks about he knows what he is talking about, you dont...get lost idiot.

  • i just cant understand what is she saying at 6:57

  • this interview is quite brilliant......

to understand that we have a part in this world, we must do something and not just say screw it.....

in my opinion, i feel that a lot of people feel that way and are starting to speak out and be proactive......in the end, what we leave are children is a reflection of us....

radiohead uses their art to show us how thmgs are and what can be if we want it

    cheers

  • she is very intelligent, great interview.

  • Ahahaha "It's obviously not MTV is it?"

  • Thom should run for office, end of story

  • "it's obviously not MTV is it?" = !!

  • For the record, in case you haven't figured it out, he's discussing Hail to the Thief, hence the backdrift wordplay referring to track 4 "Backdrifts."

  • I love how Thom referred to himself as an old git!

  • Wish he didn't talk about things he doesn't know much about.

  • good shit

    john archer

    Saracee

  • @WhoTheGreat schröder war 10 jahre lang rückschritt... s einzige des er geschafft hat war deutschlands hintern aus dem irak zu halten. will heißen: ich stimm dir voll zu.

  • Brilliant interviewer.

  • it there one nice person who can write down what thom says? cause i dont understan that english and i know its a fantastic interview.. if there is someone out there who wants to help me, let mi know! please!.

  • This is a great interview. So many music interviews just focus on a load of gossipy bollocks - But she really gets into the motivations behind the album and themes in it.

  • this explains quite nicely why the band doesn't play creep.

  • I bloody love the energy and connection between these 2, as interviewer and interviewee, the ebb and flow of the interview is just spot on!!

    Brilliant stuff! :D

  • it's good to see a good interview where he shows his true feelings

  • Thom Yorke and Radiohead are the shieeeet!! Man they absolutely rock.

  • during the silences, I can hear the wheels turning

  • "I heard other people imitating things that we'd done" coldplay and snow patrol by any chance? XD

  • yes yes...and muse, travis, etc

  • Ahem, I'm 12, and still a devout Radiohead fan. Thom Yorke is a genius and his values are something I support in full. The music and lyrics he writes (both for Radiohead, compilations, and his solo work) have changed my life. That interview is definitely attracted too him!

  • @Annaa97 Hi, I'm 12 and what is this?

  • @sensfan98 An interview.

  • @Annaa97 i'm always happy to see other people my age are into good music :D

  • she makes me provoke my own fantasies of shagging all the tortured 'genius' types right afta tha shoe

  • She is a very intelligent journalist.

  • obviously not mtv good one great smart casual interview

  • Man, wat i wudnt giv to be sitting where she is, i luv Thom, and clearly she does too!

  • this interview is bloody brilliant!

Seeing Thom actually responding positively to the interviewer's questions is such a rare and pleasant thing to see... lovely!

  • Lovely interview. And, as you have said, this is the kind of thing MTV is missing. They can't take the time to let us have a real listen for fear that the 13 yr. old emo-heads will become bored.

  • obviously not mtv! hahaha

  • "They don't give a flying fuck about us", damn Thom, you are my hero!!!

  • Thom is so damn adorable! I love how he's midway through a rant, then gets all self conscious probably thinking he's boring her and looks down mumbling about "politics not being very sexy". then the pleasantly bemused look on his face when she leans in and says "it is to my viewers". I think she definitely means herself. she clearly wants a piece of Thom.

  • For once an intellegent interviewer

  • awesome i love this interview

  • its obviously not MTV is it?! lol great quote

  • I like how people pretend Jeff Buckley somehow made Thom magically sing better. First and foremost, this is no disrespect to Jeff Buckley as he was a great singer. But let's get our facts straight, Thom Yorke has been singing in falsetto for years, even before Jeff Buckleys records were out. Go search for the 1988 demos and you'll see Thom Yorke's incredible range even in those days. To Be A Brilliant Light is a good example.

  • She is a wonderful interviewer! I've never heard Thom open up like that. She was thoughtful with her questions and gave him plenty of room to express himself.

I'm truly impressed. I'd like to see her do more.

  • "obviously not mtv, is it"

  • death threats are uncool
