Very funny, but if your not a church member, it would be hard to explain why it is funny, but I will give it a try.
In the LDS chuch (who members are Mormons) we do not have a preacher, instead church members are asked to give talks.
Many talks start off with "Good morning, brothers and sisters, For those who do not know me, I am _____, and I am happy to share this talk today, I have to admit, I was nervous when I was...
LDS people have hear that twice a meeting every Sunday for years.
People, you have to stop looking so deep into this. It's simply a funny thing. Laugh! and if you don't get it, your probably not Mormon or not baptized yet.
Saxophone dude: that is SO true! Every bad comment people make about is really only proving us right. Everything they say can be countered, and most of the time even with a bible or BoM verse hah
We beleive that there is one church that will return us to live with Christ.
Why do you suppose people are so offended by that idea? It's because they don't want to feel any implication that they may be wrong about what they are doing or believing in. I can understand that, but as history has displayed before, alot of people take their offense too far.
@jules4b And I loved it too. I just a minute ago got to be aware that LDS members have comedy videos online and this is my second so far. This brother had me laughin' hard too. :D. Southern states LDS representin'!
First of, the missionary program is really good the way it is.
Secondly, the temple garments serves as a reminder to our promises with God
Thirdly, so what if jospeh Smith was a freemason
Fourthly, the blacks and priesthood is interesting, it actaully never was doctrine, only practice, and there were some pre 1978 blacks who had it, it was stopped for a couple of reasons, i wouldbe happy to discuss this in a message.
and yes i haved researched, but every claim against the church has a answer
I know exactly what you mean!! I am a convert too and the reason I joined is because it was logical to me. But, I also felt in my heart that it was right. That is how I make decisions for the most part. The logic and the feelings have to agree.
what's the name of our church again. Oh yeah, the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints. unless their are two Jesus Christs i think our church name proves your uneducated opinions wrong.
Not to be rude, but his laugh bugs me... brian Regan is a really good comic, not LDS (for as far as I know) but he is really good, and does not swear. (other than that he says G-O-D sometimes, and that he uses the "H' word, but not like.... go to H!
This was ok, not the greatest, but ok. I got some of the joke. What Shawn was trying to do was talk as though he was "giving a talk" in church. Many times women who give talks apologize in advance for getting emotional. There were other things mentioned, I probably just didn't get it.
I don't think you get it. Probably cause you haven't been to church in a long time. But it is actually funny, if you pay attention to anyones talk. Ever. They all sound like that. Wonderful inside joke ;)
How is this funny? im mormon and i think this is stupid!! I mean im in active and i know you can have good comedy with out sex or swearing, but this guy sucked, im sorry
Absolutely hilarious! Just take the opening of a talk you're going to give next Sunday, replace all the proper nouns with something else, and you've got brilliant comedy. Seems to me that most comedy is done in this manner anyway. SPLENDID!
man, Affordablevideo, You just don't get it do you? The reason we think this is funny, and why the audience is cracking up, and anyone who is LDS would surely find this funny is because this is Exactly like how a normal talk is given by many people in the church. It's a mormon thing. It's basically an Inside Joke to all Mormons. You'd have to be there to get it, or in this case, be one.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If this what mormons thinks funny thats says a lot about their religon. It show they don't know what they are preaching. This guy did nothing or say anything close to being funny and the crowd is going nuts over him.
He's making fun of giving a talk in church. You're called by the bishop to give a talk in front of your ward on a given subject, and he's doing his bit in that style. 99% of these talks have some of the elements in this routine like, "If you look up ___ in the dictionary" and "for those of you who don't know me."
It is quite clever, at least to those who get the joke, and I don't see how it could be interpreted as Mormons not knowing about our religion at all.

This isn't that funny, but I didn't realize how universal the talks were at the local ward--especially the last bit about looking something up in the dictionary. Are people really that unoriginal in their talks? lol
Actually it's hilarious and wonderful at the same time. This little clip illustrates one of the most amazing aspects of the LDS church - the participation of average folks in its services and operation. There is no paid clergy. No paid choir. No paid speakers. Hence, yes we get a lot of talks/sermons from average members who often struggle to get their point across. But I'd take 100 sermons from Joe Average Member over any one from a paid preacher.
@millball that's the kind of thing that people say when they don't want to invest any intellectual (let alone spiritual) energy in a question. Your preferred "one gospel sermon" could mean absolutely anything. Would a Babtist sermon be equally beneficial to a Lutheron sermon? How about the "non-denominational Christian" church down the road that preaches "Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die." You need to be more specific.
@FlamingHaggis WELL... it was a bait comment. I'm glad i've caught somebody :P Firstly, mormons arent christian. Their intentions may be swell, heck, i've spoke with quite a few mormons and they are dead on people, just misled... like a lot of people in this crazy world.
@millball You may have caught me in your bait comment, but you can't just dodge my question. You said, "you'd be better taking 1 christian gospel sermon in a church than a 1,000,000 LDS sermons." and I replied, "one gospel sermon could mean anything". So tell us... whose sermon is good enough for you? Episcopalian? Presbyterian? Unitarian Universalist? Show me your 1,000,000 Christian sermons and I'll show you 1,000,000 different and conflicting belief systems. So your god is a god of chaos...?
@FlamingHaggis A sermon that presents the truth. Its irrelevant what "denomination" -man's idea because they get their own silly ideas about how things should be done when its all there in the bible- The FACT OF THE MATTER is that mormon 'restored' gospel (the gospel never needed restoring to start off with so..) is lies. Does that answer your question?
@millball You say that you're happy with any denomination that "presents the truth". Now we're getting somewhere. So the next question is, who determines what's truth? You? When every Christian denomination teaches something different from every other denomination, can it all be "true"? It's the same question Joseph Smith asked 190 years ago, "Who of all these parties are right; or, are they all wrong together? If any one of them be aright, which is it, and how shall I know it?"

hahaha ur right on a lds member could truely understand this bcuz i was watching this and one of my friends who isnt a member couldnt figure out why i was laughing
A perfect rendition of most last-minute preparation talks! LOL. I'm no comedian, but if I were up there I would've turned around in the middle, put some eye drops in my eyes, turn back around, and start the whole "I know without a shadow of a doubt..." speech.
the thing that is so funny is that this is exacly what happens every sunday! haaahaha... "u know when the producer first called me and asked me to do this comedy..(give this talk hehe)"

is the show really called latter-day night live? is it like a mormon comedy or what?
DFPUR 3 years ago
yes- they had a bunch of lds comedians come in to have a show, and they called it Latter Day Night Live, because LDS is "Latter Day Saints"

A perfect rendition of most last-minute preparation talks! LOL. I'm no comedian, but if I were up there I would've turned around in the middle, put some eye drops in my eyes, turn back around, and start the whole "I know without a shadow of a doubt..." speech.
