It's amazing to me, an old rock and roller..(i saw the Beatles play on Ed Sullivan the very first time) but i think these videos of Nirvana are probably the best music since the Beatles. I loved Nirvana, but with Technology the way it is, I get to experience it all over, all the things they did that i missed in days that it happened. This is one of the best bands of all time. Hey, at 54, I've heard all the bands, been to a 100+ concerts, but i wish i had been to see these guys!!!!
Kurt did not hate rockstars in general. And yes he loved The Beatles, Black Flag, Sonic Youth, Led Belly, The Melvins, Dinosaur JR, and so on. Not All Punk Rock but Kurt's ideals were Punk. He hated macho, big headed rockstars that thought they were too good for their fans and treated women like toys. It was about the MUSIC to Nirvana not the fame. Yes they became huge, but they would have been happier staying an underground band. Who cares who they were influenced by. Their music is AMAZING!
Grunge is a label placed onto the Seattle scene by record companies so that they could easily categorize albums to sell to you. Fuck labels. And say what you will about Nirvana but 20 years later and I still love and miss them. They will always be timeless no matter how huge they got.
The 8 measures right before the chorus use the same basic melody as in the verse of Heart Shaped Box. But Heart Shaped box adjusts the rhythm of it a little bit, makes it sound even catchier.
people really don't give krist enough credit. the bass line to rape me is so fucking awesome, the way it harmonizes with the guitar part and builds it up is so sick
I remember when I first started listening to Nirvana. I felt like I've heard every song before...but as we all know...Nirvana is a unique band that probably stepped farthest away from their biggest influences. I like to think that Nirvana was right in line with what the culture was thinking but could not express until these three guys came along.
This is definately there best 'sounding' gig and I think this shows that Pat Smear was a great guitar player and when he played with Kurt they clicked (like Nirvana Unplugged). I definately feel a more 'funky vibe' with songs played in this concert compared to any of the ones I've heard before, they sound waaaay better than the album versions. However Alcoholicatrasher is right, that Amsterdam gig is as good as any 3 piece will ever play. RIP Kurt
@BayouBluesMan the lyrics on in utero are different: "i tried hard to have a father but instead i had a dad". kurt often changed his lyrics live. i dont think he really took them too seriously besides the time when he wrote them. so i dont think we should take them too seriously all the time. however, since you asked...he did say in an interview that it was about his relationship to his father, not his sister or mother. but who knows...
best liveshow from Nirvana was in Amsterdam November 1991. Not a arena rockshow but in a small venue. Some of the songs are used in From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah. That was a amazing show.
My favourite Nirvana song ever! Actually every song on In Utero is my favorite Nirvana song. Maybe if people treated Kurt like a normal person and not some blown up, larger than life golden god then maybe he would still be here.
3 guys are chillin in a bar 1 guy said : i got the smallest arm in the world , second guy said : i got the smallest head in the world, last one said i got the smallest dick in the world. so they decide to go to guinness world records, first guy walks out and said yes i actually got the smallest arm in tha world ! second one same story very happy and said i actually got the smallest head in tha world. last guy comes out screaming saying : who the fuck is justin bieber !
honestly i think this is the best live recording and concert ive seen!!!!..i wish they would put this on DVD!!....awesome performance!!!!..theres not alot of live performances with in utero songs!!! thanks for posting..:)
I'm tired of seeing dudes at my school wearing skinny jeans, especially different colored, neon ones. It's so queer. I want baggy pants/clothes from the 90's to come back in style.
Serve the Servants, in one part, has like the exact same voice melody as Heart Shaped Box.... Except Heart Shaped Box is better. He was like "yea I'm gunna do this idea again."
@sonicbluemstang they dont make sonic blue mustangs, they never have. Daphne blue and competition blue are the only types. I work at Long and McQuade, i know what im talking about
@PBANDSNOW you can buy replicas of his mustang from the In Utero stor at the ikebe store in japan, actually you can buy all of his guitars on that , btw fender actally made sonic blue mustangs in the past, I believe kurts guitar was from '69, in that year fender still made sonic blue mustangs.. I'm sorry but I have to say that as an employee at Long and McQuade: U JUST GOT NAILED :>
@sonicbluemstang Its daphne blue, sonic blue is a completely different colour. Get the book come as you are and read it, it talks about all of Kurts guitars, and even has a part where he rates his guitars
@PBANDSNOW then I guess that book is bullshit ... why do you think his jag-stangs are only available in Sonic Blue en Fiesta Red, because those were his fav colours ...

If you don't believe it you can check it on kurtsequipment.co, this site is made in coop. with Earnie Bailey, kurts guitar technician.. and if you still don't believe it, just google kurt cobain sonic blue mustang and afterwards kurt cobain daphne blue mustang and just compare the results at google images ...
@sonicbluemstang Fender Mustang, Sonic Blue, Tortoise shell PG, 1 HB. Designed specifically for him by Fender techs, the guitar was slightly reshaped. This was his main guitar for the entire In Utero tour. I go to school and I also know what i'm talking about ....
@TheBobbyalone i maybe wrong but I think he only used the Jagstang a couple times..cuz fender did a piss poor job in making them and he was un-impressed with the guitar..and I know that the show they did for a french tv show his jagstang shit on him during a solo performing drain you and he threw it to the ground and let Pat take over on guitar.
if you do that, it will be even more gay than liking Kurt's hair blowing in the wind. so.. DON'T DO IT! It's the greatest advice I can give u (and if you do, send me a pick so I cna laugh my ass off :D)
Better to say you got tired of the song because you've heard it more than you should, back to back. But because its mainstream? Dude... Nirvana "was" mainstream.

@Akira3441 how the hell wud u kno?? suppose u kno him in and out frm all the info u have read on websites from shite sources. h8 people who think they kno wot kind of a person he was wen they never knew him
@Akira3441 I think you can't say he hated rockstars... He was a HUGE Beatles fan after all... If you know biggest rockstars than the Fab Four, please tell me...
@Zehydra106 yeah your right, this is fucking powerful, ive always likes serve the servants, i think the lyrics are the best hes written, that second guitar really made nirvana sound full
changed the lyrics, to "sister" rather than "father". I'm pretty sure I saw an interview where it was mentioned that his father was at this show watching Nirvana, and Cobain did not want to say "I tried to have a father but instead I have a dad".

@Akira3441 I think you can't say he hated rockstars... He was a HUGE Beatles fan after all... If you know biggest rockstars than the Fab Four, please tell me...

he did that because his dad was at this performance, and he didn't want to offend him.

did what?

changed the lyrics, to "sister" rather than "father". I'm pretty sure I saw an interview where it was mentioned that his father was at this show watching Nirvana, and Cobain did not want to say "I tried to have a father but instead I have a dad".
