oh my god, this is so completely amazing. i've been looking at all these contest videos and yours is the best i've seen so far, and it's affected me the most. wonderfully executed!
@GeneralVasco Sadly I don't have After Effects but I did use Premiere CS3. I took the footage in-game and added drawings made in Photoshop using Premiere. :)
@lilianaclaire This video is Awesome! I'm trying to do something similar as anniversary surprise to my girlfriend, could you give me some basic instructions?? Cause I don't know how to use the Adobe Premiere, or one web where I can find tutorials to make the effects you use in this video?
@GeneralVasco Unfortunately I don't as I taught myself. If you do a google search you can usually find some pretty good tutorials along with the help index inside of the program itself. If you want to try something like what I did, investigate using layers. I put the base footage on the bottom layer and added my own pictures on layers on top of that.
My advice would be search for tutorials on using layers, adding pictures and resizing pictures.
you should have beeen second place on the contest you did the second best entry i've seen in the contest yet somekind of stupid video won first it isnt even about portal 2! just some guy with a sock papet!
Just wanted to let you know that because of this video I went and played through old Apeture again, taking my time walking through these areas, finally understood the "If you see an orange jumpsuit hit the red button" posters. Thank you!
@emildeadspacefreak In the second section of Old Aperture, the company is using homeless people instead of 'Olympians, astronauts and/or war heros." Someone in an orange jumpsuit means that one of the homeless people managed to get where they're not supposed to be (the offices), thus the sign.
It certainly shows more originality than most of the garbage that was submitted. Yeah, the winner had nothing to do with Portal, but that's what made it original.
Good sketches. You really captured the characters (ie flowers).
My favorite part was when GLaDOS was activated, and you showed us what seeing through her eyes was like.
I think you should've shown more reaction shots of Caroline as she was forced into GLaDOS. Ratman sketched her killing all the scientists that way so...
i was just watching this and i realized that the different parts of aperture are dated. GLaDOS' original chamber is labeled 1992, and she killed everyone when she was turned on (which couldn't have been that long after the room was built, but judging by size, at least 15-18 years to build her). if Chell is going to be in ep3, the 999999999. at the beginning of portal 2 must have only been the run down version of 9 years, ending off in 2019, giving her 1 year to find her way to the resistance. :)
@sendogobou Hee, I should probably mention that the 1992 date was stuck in by me; it doesn't actually appear on any of the maps and was a best guess by me. It would be interesting to have Chell and Gordan work together :)
@lilianaclaire Hi :) I posted my article/review of your video up on my website rosaleena(dot)co(dot) uk and would love if you could check it out and maybe give your opinion? thanks :3
Gosh. I still can't find the right words. I saw the winning video and thought to myself, "Well, this was a failed video competition." Then my eyes wandered down to your video. All I can seem to say is... Bravo.
This quite truthfully brought tears to my eyes. I'm very much attracted to the stories and histories behind games, be they interpreted or stated fact, and Caroline's story is no exception. Adding the song to this work makes it even more deep. Beautiful job.
Were I the judge, this would've won the contest. Loved the fact that it wasn't just a re-enactment of the main plot of the game and the presentation worked nicely as well.
Of the ones I've seen, I think this one is the one that affected me the most. A lot of talent in all of the versions that the contest linked to, but I would have voted for this one.
Other than the fact that Caroline and GLaDOS aren't the same person (though I do believe she did see things from just a bit behind GLaDOS's perspective very briefly at the beginning of the upload, kinda like you showed), I liked this! And you know what the picture things reminded me of? A Series of Unfortunate Events. I don't know why, I think it was the style. :)
That was lovely. I loved the way you 'populated' the halls of old Aperture, it was like seeing the ghosts of the past. And Caroline's last walk down that hallway... beautiful.
Out of all the videos i saw i loved yours the most

So, thats why Aperture was paying the test subjects 60 dollars in the 70s, they were all homeless people.
