  • Dam i never seen that fight haha dude must of felt like a sucka after all that shit talking huh

  • The guy who rickson is fighting is called Hugo duarte. Duarte had offered to shake graces hand but took him down were his jiu jitsu students kicked sand in duartes eyes. The graces are just practicing modified judo and they are a bunch of street thugs.

  • in case no ones wants to read through all the comments: one on one BJJ is great in the street or elsewhere.

any one of that crowd decides to step in and old rickson has himself a problem

  • I have trained in striking martial art muay thai for 10 years now and I will be starting to learn bjj roger gracie tomorrow ,these 2 go very well together like two pieces of a puzzle.

    -striking(defending)+grappling(defending)=big problem for your opponent.

    peace--

  • @Waterman117 Shh, woman, please. Your feelings sound hurt. haha

  • @Waterman117 yeah we have all seen jujitsu's effectiveness. Anyone catch the last match in which Matt Hughes pummeled Renzo Gracie like a little bitch? What happened to Renzo's "awesome" jujitsu? I guess he could always claim he is getting old or is out of shape

  • @ThisReallySuckz I think you mean Royce Gracie.

  • i love the narrator's comments, i dont know which of the gracies he is...there's so many. BUT even though his comments are wise gracie jiu jitsu is not what u want for a street fight becuz even in this fight it wasn't "fully" street, I mean come no the man had time to take off his shirt. It's like challenging someone to a gun duel instead of just pulling out ur gun and battling it out rightere and then, yall know what i mean??

  • Muay Thai is best for standing and striking, but when things go to the ground, jui jitsu prevails. Now the best and "proven" defense against blades, weapons, and being in hostage situations is Krav Magaw. So dont say thier aren martial arts that do njot prevail against specific attacks.

  • @ElevnBravo very well said :D

  • Brazilian Jujitsu is very effective against people that don't know how to fight. Even if they're stronger and bigger than you and you use brazilian jujitsu, you'll win like 100% of the time. However, against people who know how to fight and are stronger and bigger than you are, and you try to use brazilian jujitsu, they will kick the living shit out of you.

  • @ThisReallySuckz Royce and Rickson are famous for beating larger, stronger and well trained opponents.

  • @ThisReallySuckz You ever seen an MMA fight dummy?

  • Ah yes those beautiful times bring tears to my eyes.

  • Jiu jitsu is the best martial art in a competition, fact. But in real life, whit no rules when someone can put their finger in your eyes or press another "eject" point, u will prefer a martial art like boxing, kickboxing or muay thai somenthing that will keep your oponent away from you

  • kill his ass!

  • The Gracies need to learn that insults are taken, not given.

  • yeah and you need to learn to defend you familie's honor

  • My family would be ashamed if I were to get into a fight with some jerk off who doesnt' matter at a public place. You need to grow up. I bet you're pretty young though so oh well...

  • i would have done the same thing i will always defend my family honor

  • Thats nice...

  • I like Jiu Jitsu, but in a street fight is obsolete against multiple fighters.

  • I wouldn't say obsolete, as sub defense and take down defense and if the fight does happen to go to the ground you have an advantage, but I wouldn't be jumping guard that's for sure.

  • Everybody stop bringing up multiple fighters thats all i hear all the time... Gracie University has a circullum called the master cycle that adresses multiple attackers quite a bit... Gracie university has a cirrculum that is far away from sport jiu jitsu as possible it is designed for the street... There is no martial art that is rly sufficient against multiple attackers not one. if other MA cant even beat GJJ what makes you think they are going to win against multiple attackers. wont happen

  • That was Hugo Durate a Luta Livre Practitioner him along with Marco Ruas and Pedro Otavio where slandering the Gracie name and did some very insulting things so Rickson confront Hugo and that is what happened

  • This is the only to prove what works in the streets. Guy talks about ur family you gnp him or submit him.

  • never take shit from a man in a banana hammock

  • Don't think there is much honor in Martial Arts anymore. Someone talks crap, go kick there ass. What happened to defend yourself if someone comes after you?

  • Yes, just cos you can beat someone up if they slander you doesnt mean you have to do it to show who is such a tough man. He even lashed out first... He could of defended himself at least...

  • Listen how many times have you heard Gracie Jiu Jitsu doesnt work in real life scenarios well this was the only way to prove it they had to fight REAL fights or no one would have ever believed them and still many ppl dont.

  • I don't think you understand the concept of honor, do you think that a Samurai warrior in feudal Japan where the code of Bushido was born, would let someone insulting his familys' honor go unpunished, I don't think so. If you do not defend your familys' honor then you have none. Google Gracie family values, maybe then you will learn about honor.

  • a family's honor is stronger than any words against it. insulting a family is like insulting stone. it speaks for itself through expressing it's nature.

  • @LuckyTHlRT33N i agree with you. original jiujitsu was created by samurai to fight an armored opponent should they lose their sword, not self defense. almost all martial arts were created for war. very few martial arts were created for self defense. i can think of four, kung fu, karate, kajukenbo, and capoeira

  • What was the fight about?

  • What had happened if the friends of the opponent kick Gracie while he is doing BJJ or even worse put a knife in him....??

  • @avogadro855 what if one of the gracie family members stabbed or kicked the other guy? your point is moot.

  • @avogadro855 @LittleJ2008 at infinitum posibilities are endless as you propose is the same, What if they have a gun or a bom, in reality only strategy can win.

and only if your are lucky. because no man is invencible.

    at the end everithing dies.

  • @avogadro855 you are horrible with philosophic sentences.

  • @LittleJ2008 that is true, I haven´t praticed my english.

  • @LittleJ2008 that is true, I haven´t praticed my english.

  • @LittleJ2008 that is true, I haven´t praticed my english.

  • @LittleJ2008 @LittleJ2008 that is true, I haven´t praticed my english.

  • @LittleJ2008 @LittleJ2008 that is true, I haven´t praticed my english.

  • @LittleJ2008 that is true, I haven´t praticed my english.

  • @LittleJ2008 that is true, I haven´t praticed my english.

  • @avogadro855 Anyone can pull a knife out, anyone can stab someone, anyone can kick someone. No martial art really defends against getting stabbed with a knife. Maybe instinct to back away and control the hand with the knife, but at the same time thats jiu jitsu.

  • i think with cold steal wepon such as sharp knife jujtsu guy gets no chance

  • true

  • @dimamaroc100

So in your opinion there's no point in training any martial art, right? The other guy could carry a gun! Or even training how to shoot, because the other guy could bring a tank, or learning how to drive a tank as the other guy could nuke you. You are a very bright man...

jiu-jitsu is a sport just like any other.

  • @dimamaroc100 No shit. Wow. When weapons become involved its just about pure instinct in controlling the hand with the weapon, and maybe poppin a wrist lock on it. Thats the best chance anyone of any martial art has.

  • Awesome video, I wish I could have been there, Martial artist 1 stupid ass prick who wants to act tough 0, and the poor guy had to go home with a smashed in face, bwahahahah

  • HONOR

  • stupid

  • rickson is the man

  • Rickson's a badass mofo

  • i love rikson gracie haha! :P

  • I got nothing but respect for the Gracie Jujusu Family and there style rules supreme hands down... - A fan of BJJ and MMA from Australia

  • the gracies are just overrated brasilian thugs, starting random fights everywhere they get... simple criminals.

  • Yeah he probably would have won eventually but those are the rules.

I saw somewhere he drew against Marco Ruas a long time ago, can anyone verify this?

    Cheers

  • I didn't realise Rickson lost to Ron Tripp in 45 seconds 1993, I wonder if there's any other fights he lost that don't get mentioned?

  • he didn't lost in the traditional sense, since the rule of that fight state that the moment one person's shoulder touch the ground he lost, so rickson's shoulder touch the ground and he lost but in all likelihood he would have put the ron tripp in an armbar eventually

  • well, i am a gracie fan but i think they have to much testosteron! a friend of mine who lives in rio once told me that the members of the gracie family clan often fight people who actually don't want to f.e. at parties. Once they went to a wedding where they fought some guests and they destroyed the interieur. is that the behaviour of champions?

  • It was unnecessary to slap him over that insult.

He should just have been the bigger man and walked away.

  • these gaycie sluts are douchebags. they are terminal egomaniacs, can you respect a "martial arts master" who slaps people on the street just because it was called inferior? hickson gaycie is so full of himself! i wish a biker gang stopped by and yelled out "JIUJITSU IS BULLSHIT!!!!" then we'll see what these faggots will do

  • wussies slap fighting

  • racist

  • me???NO!

  • I was joking

  • The "junkie" that insults the Gracie name is Hugo Duarte, a Luta Livre fighter; a loose term for a system that incorporates both strikes and submissions.

  • lol..."he will punch him until he admits that jiu jitsu still reigns" good stuff

  • @acslater017 LMAO

  • @acslater017 haha yeah the gracie's are just a bunch of bullies

  • THis guy is a completet DUMB FUCK. You don't insult the Gracie family to begin with, but to talk shit to Rickson's face is prolly the worst thing you can do because he is the best fighter, he has over 400 wins and no loses, he is amazing along with the rest of his family, Brazilian Jiu-Jitus is the best martail art ever invented!!

  • fucking yes!

  • If someone tells you the sun rises in the West, do you have a right, or even a good reason, to hit him? If this is what is purports to be, very disappointing.

  • Wow!!!!He used the twisting arm control to finish his opponent. Rickson really is a master in this technique. Rickson rocks!!!

  • _|_

  • i've never seen a gracie punch so much lol.

  • For all the 1v1 and 2v1 guys... simple fact: no one will attack you unless they think they have an advantage. Guys who want to fight train for the cage. Most guys on the street want to assault either for material gain or to feel tough. So look for that advantage. Size, strength, numbers or a weapon.

Thank being said, Brazilian Jujitsu rocks.

  • @kempowest haha u got it spot on!!!!

  • is rickison gracie vs hugo duarte and was ryan gracie who recorded the tape

  • I like how they call the other guy a junkie in the video description. Isn't that Hugo Duarte? He fought in pride a few times. The only thing I really remember is him bitching and moaning after he pretended that Mark Kerr head butt him.

  • My statistic is from what I have seen in real life, not what the stats from youtube, but yeah, even with awsome standup against several opponents they always have the upper hand.

  • ah vai tudo esses gringo FILHOS DA PUTA TOMA NO CUH...manda cai no tatame q nenhum aguenta...vai cacareja lah no inferno seus CORNO

    JIUJITSU RULEZ

  • ah vai tudo esses gringo FILHOS DA PUTA TOMA NO CUH...manda cai no tatame q nenhum aguenta...vai cacareja lah no inferno seus CORNO

    JIUJITSU RULEZ

  • the guy who posted this vid's an idiot, this is a famous fight between a luta livre instructor and rickson, over the supposed superiority of bjj, it happened in 1989 and this was also th fight that incited a big challenge tournament mathc thing between 3 gracies and 3 luta livre guys, so the other guy is hardly "some junkie"

  • so if someone insults you, you hit them? big ego + no discipline = gracie

  • and call themselves masters? i call them assholes.

  • still is, havent seen a fighter yet thats as small as him, and went Three rounds of non stop brawling of no RULES, remember Gracie vs Dan Severn, in Ultimate fighter 4 i believe, dude was almost twice his weight and had a strong discpline of roman wrestling... and still gracie took the Ultimate fighter win over and over,Now there all matched by weight, and size and height and theres rules , gloves etc..dont forget gracie doesnt talk shit, hes really quiet and calm... i admire that in any fighter

  • he doesnt talk shit but he does hold chokes way to long after guys tapping, and breaks arms deliberatly like on jason delucia, I dont respect that at all

  • Well the reffs are idiots thats why, remeber KEN shamrock tried pulling a "i didnt tap" in UFC 1 cuz the reff was an idiot and didnt see it....They tap out, and of the reff isnt goign to step in hes not about to let go, plus nremember the adreiline thats pumping thru there body at the particular moment...

  • Thats true to an extent, the refs looked extreamly confused often. But still, there were some moments when royce knew that he should have let go and still didnt. Could have alot to do with the Shamrock fight tough.

  • The ground game is important to know! You can fight more than one person too. But you'll have to break there bones with fast hard submissions. Quick takedowns is needed on the streets. slamming someone in the pavement will KO or injure a person seriously.

  • ive never been in a fight were i had to fight two people at once. i have fought the dumb assholes who say jiu jitsu is no good for the street and beat them

  • ive never been in a fight were i had to fight two people at once. i have fought the dumb assholes who say jiu jitsu is no good for the street and beat them

  • the you must live in a safe enviorment

  • not really. gang fights are for crypts and bloods or whatever. confrontation 9 out of 10 times is between two people. look at fights on youtube and tell me how many are 2 on 1. not as many as 1 on 1 i can tell you that. but if you want to refuse to learn bjj then thats your business but it is good to be well rounded. pussy

  • lol, I do BJJ, Karate and Kickboxing, I agree that its good to be well rounded, but for self defense I would much rather be good at for example Boxing, or any other decent standup art. 80% of all fights I have seen have not been 1 on 1, the only fight I´ve gotten into was started 2 on 1, me being the one, as soon as they saw that they were not getting the better of it, they called for for their backup, another 10 guys. Thats when I decided that running is the best option.

  • I have trained in Martial Arts for 15yrs in BJJ and Karate, a nice mix i must add. I got into a fight once in the street, a car incident, but to make a long story short, I popped the guy's knee and he went down. This is after he trid to punch me. I told my Sensei about it and he asked me "What could u have done not to get into that fight?" My training took on new meaning, my respect for my teacher grew even more. Training means discipline, not aggression. A suspect message from Gracie I think.

  • And yeah i'm a pro fighter an all but if there is at least 3 or more guys i look for a way out... even if that means running dude...

  • of course, that's smart. most descent martial artist/self defense trainer will tell you backing off/running from fights is always the first option.

  • of course, that's smart. most descent martial artist/self defense trainer will tell you backing off/running from fights is always the first option.

  • Okay well would you rather know how to fight hard on the ground against at least one person in the street or not at all?

  • Yeah because i'm saying i can beat bas rutten or randy couture in the first place. Fucking muppet... what never happens in the cage? bjj? are you watching the same shit everybody else is? or are you blind? and yeah countless streetfights and no, not bjj alone dumbass but i've finished fights with chokes in the street before. don't be a douche. peace.

  • 2 on1 never happens in the cage, but it happens, 2 on 1, 3 on 1 or worse hapen in the street.

  • okay to the guy who said bjj is for people with little man syndrome....

you're a fucking idiot. i'm a profesional mma fighter and i'd love for you to tell me that to my face. in my more than 4 years of training bjj i've used it in countless street fights. you wanna call us douchebags for getting in the octagon? i bet you jerk off watching us do what you can't you fucking prick. get bent you low rent motherfucker.

  • yeah sure. scarey stuff girl.lol io'd like to see you fight bass ruten and randy coture at the same time. never happens in the cage idiot. countless streetfights? using bjj alone?lol

  • People who think a fight in the street is fair are idiots. A fight where one man CHALLENGES the other to one on one isn't thinking intently upon killing the other man. In America you'll get stabbed to death or shot just for whatever is in your wallet. What happens if you're a fucking bad ass at BJJ but you get JUMPED by 4 guys in the STREET? Are you gonna challenge each guy to a one on one? BJJ is a sport that should stay in the octagon for douche bags with little man syndrome.

  • agreed. bjj by itself isnt enough.

  • i'm tired of this argument. if you get jumped by 4 dudes you're best bet is too run. i don't know of many people, even pro mma guys, that could win a 4 on 1 fight. another thing to think about is there's no rules in street fighting as you said. i'm not going to sit here trying to submit someone, but i'd use jiu jitsu to hold someone down while i pounded them. have you ever rolled with anyone who actually trains BJJ? i bet you wouldn't make the "little man syndrome" to a shorter BJJ guy.

  • thedogwave has it right.

If 4 men come at you in a combative manner, run.

If you have a gun, you're entitled shoot them all in this country.

However, if someone challenges you to a fight, and they dont have a well rounded approach to fighing, like BJJ, then they will lose. Always.

  • hahahah, you think america is dangerous, hahah u must be kidding, I wish Brazil was as dangerous as US

  • I give all credit to the gracie's but...The unpredictable reality of the street is getting stomped in the face by dudes homie while you roll around on the ground with him. It really is only effective in a one on one street fight where no one else gets involved. And thats not always case on the street. So saying its the the ulitmate self defense for real street fights seems a little silly to me.

  • you must be american. in most coutries where a guy challenges another dude to a fight, they fight with soe honour. yanks suck at fighting.

  • And you must be dumb or something. I'm was talking about the STREET. Fool they don't challenge each other in the hood. They shoot each other. Are you English or some shit. You think people are out here slapping each other with with gloves challenging each other. I was talking about the reality of the street. Somewhere you've most likely never grown up in. So zip it fool.

  • thanks for prooving my point...hahah self-ownership...thats the funniest!!! lol

  • I'm gonna have to go with ijwmaddux here. NO ONE fights with "honour" on the street. Heck, no one fights with "honour" ANYWHERE. Maybe they did...in the 16th Century. But not anymore. In any fight today, people will do ANYTHING to win. This includes everything from getting friends to help to using a weapon. And, he didn't own himself in any way...plus, it doesn't matter if he IS American. His race doesn't stop him from speaking sense...

  • for real man, its fucked but thats how it goes, theres no more honorable fighting in the hoods of america anymore, people get shot, i had friends that are proof

  • All I have 2 say is BJ Penn, an Rampage

  • ????

  • Well what the hell else is?? A gun?? In one on one combat is the ultimate self defense.

  • its better than nothing but yea i see your point

  • Anything is better than nothing in my opinion. You just need to train hard in whatever you take.

  • in more than 1 on 1 your prolly gonna lose anyway

  • I honestly don't know why anyone who posts vids like this allow comments. Every keyboard warrior out there likes to talk smack about Rickson, when they have never met or trained with him.

  • The gracies are has beens.

  • the poor old gracies....what ranking are any of them now? fedor could probably beat up two of that at once at this point. lol

  • Rickson's a beast. No doubt about it.

    Can you say UNDEFEATED, yeah.

  • hahaha even with no steroids i bet they could whoop yer arse...so dont talk trash on people you dont know

  • have you seen the video of eddie bravo choking rickson , see that before you talk shit, i go to 10th planet JJ

  • plz send me the link of this fight ...you have it?

  • For one he choked Royler. I doubt you goto tenth planet or train at all to insult the founders. Loser

  • come by bitch , ask for "choker"

you will see if i dont go there

  • So your instructor is eddie bravo and you think he choked out Rickson?? And again you sound like a idiot. Im sure your nowhere near Brown belt and If i lived near there i would love nothing more than to choke you out. Ask your teacher who he choked. Get the info. Then talk. Ive been under Renzo Gracie since 1998.You have no chance

  • renzo ??? oh the guy that frank samrock beat to a lil bitch pulp? ahahahahha ahahahahahaha

    ahahahahhahaha

ahahhaha oh i love you , you made my day , shit you made my YEAR !!!!! i hope 2009 is as good as this one ..........hahahhahahaa

    hahahhahahahah

    aaahahhahaa

  • yep your right man, eddie bravo choked royler, no one has choked Rickson out. should learn your history tho nico or whatever, especially your instructors.

  • fucking idiot, it was royler!

  • gracie´s are AMAZING

    VERY GOOD FIGHTERS AND TECHNIQUE.

    BUT NOT THE MOST COMPLETE

just look what igor vovchanchin did to Edson Carvalho

everyone needs to know a bit of everything

ground fighting and stand up fighting

    or you will be OWNED

  • omg they are garbage

  • that was a 1 on 1 fight

but if you fight in the street there´s a lot of posibilities for more than 1 guy ready to kicks your ass

so...NEVER GO TO THE GROUND..unless is a 1 on 1 fight or you have enough friends to make a meat-ring

  • where's molly holly's ass?

  • there is absolutly notting honorable neither inspirational from a video of this kind(beside be very clearly a "pajasada")

true martial artists and true champions would make anything possible to avoid a stupidity of this kind-this is just for repressed people wanting blood- go to war against you same kind insteed!

  • I agree. Gracie has a bad attitude problem and the example he sets for his students is that it's okay to start a fight and get into fights.A true man will walk away from verbal insults.

    Fight only when necessary.

  • well said

  • there is no mortial art that prepares for the possibilities of multiple opponents, and the possibility of the multiple figthers having a weapon, don't be silly. People are training fighting with multiple opponents like in krav but they sometimes can't even deal with one opponent ahaha it's so funny how people are stupid;D

  • you're almost correct...but many forms of martial arts practice bunkai, breaking down the moves and techniques, finding other ways to apply them, which means even preparation for multiple opponents...to think that no form of martial arts prepares you for multiple opponents is rediculous

  • I forgot the specific name for this martial art (or system), but two JKD guys did make a system of fighting where it teaches you how to fight multiple opponents. Or you can ask Marlon Sims for TUF5 =P.

  • if you are in a street fight YOU DONT WANT TO GO THE GROUND

  • yep u right that why i trening muay thai too, but if u dont wont to go on the ground u have to know something about grappling:]

  • O nivel de babaquice dos Gracies e imcomparavel...

Gracies are far from enlightened beings.

They compare the intelligence of women to horses.

Rickson's attitude is a fine example of their levels of intelliigence

  • Was this really about the honor of ju-jitsu, or is this simply some random fight on a beach between a Gracie and some jackass?

  • Hugo Duarte was talking shit publicly about the Gracies [rickson] and was saying that the gracies would only fight standup fighters and not any Luta Livre fighters and that luta livre was better than gracie jujitsu. Hugo was a luta livre champ. So, Rickson simply put him in his place.

  • And the fact Duarte was ducking Rickson for 3 months prior to this.

  • The smartest thing Gracie should have done was just simply walk away. Street fights like this are unpredictable. Unless he has a secret death wish, this Gracie can get shot by some crazy assailant. Fighting is not the solution. Humility and meekness is better than always having to prove you are better than others.

  • yeah man, because y'know...he's gonna pull a fucking gun or a knife out of that tiny ass bathing suit

  • You're right. Its just a matter of time. He who exalteth his gait seeketh destruction.

  • good 2 c rickson also thru a couple of punches b4 the takedown

  • Great fighters don't patronize any one martial art. They are very open to learning other martial arts, especially those of their opponents. That's why Frank Shamrock and Matt Hughes are so good. Hughes called the Gracies outdated (before his fight with Royce) bec although bjj is very good martial system, Gracies still patronize just one martial art. Hughes is familiar with both bjj and also standup striking.

  • It's true. But you have to give the Gracies and vale tudo artists their due as they took us from Karate and Kung Fu fantasy land to real mixed martial arts that actually work. People used to think kung fu monks could fly around and karate guys could kill with a word or chi. It was ridiculous.

  • I agree
